No it can not as there does not seem to be any armor around the inside of the outer jacket. Outside cable is more weather resistant than inside rated cable, additionaly it is more UV resistant. There probably is not any waterproofing gel inside the cable as well. Without the gel and armore I would not put in ground unless it is in a conduit. The conduit can be PVC and does not need to be metal (may be better that is not in metal). Going forward, solid copper is better suited for longer runs than 25 ft. But stranded will work.

I ordered this about a year ago (item 15398) and back then the description read:
"1000ft Cat6 Bulk Bare Copper UTP 23AWG Outdoor Gel-filled Direct Burial Cable, Black"
I still haven't gotten around to burying it or verifying it is gel-filled, but if you wish, I can easily check to see if it is true.

The cable is gel filled with some goopy thick paste. The sticker on the outside of the spool reads:
HSO1-170800010-9-29
COMMUNICATION CABLE
CABLE C6 UTP (With Cross) 23 AWG
Gel filled (outdoor) BK303 305M
I'm planning on burying mine, but since I found some old conduit laying around, it will probably go inside that so I can add more later.

Can I connect this to a "1-Gang Ethernet Wall Plate" on one end and patch panel on the other end?

on Nov 16, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Sure. That would work. You would need to terminate the end into a Cat6 RJ45 jack at the 1-gang wall plate and punch down to the patch panel on the other. If you are asking if you need to transition to an interior-grade cable before doing the terminations, you do not. This is fine to go end-to-end in general circumstances. That being said, I don't believe it is Riser or Plenum-rated, so you would need to transition to the appropriate cable for those situations. But for residential or 1st floor commercial, non-plenum, it is fine to run this straight-through. Have lots of wipes handy to deal with the gel.

How well does this store? If I use some this year and store the excess for 4 years, will it still be good or should I order as needed?

BEST ANSWER: Hello,
Thank you for your inquiry. Typically Cat6 cables have a shelf life of a minimum of 10 years. So saving part of it for 4 years should be no issue.

Is there a part number for a shorter length? Like 250 feet? This is the first time in 20 years I've needed outdoor cable... the rest of a 1000 foot spool would sit in my ware house for a decade...

Good Product, No Issues
Works perfectly. My first experience dealing with gel-filled exterior cable which does make a bit of a mess so keep a rag handy. But it's functional! Working for well for me in a CCTV scenario with buried runs as well as fixed attachment to brick exterior.

Very high quality cable at a great price!
This cable is very high quality and is very flexible considering how thick the jacket is. The gel filling is a mess to work with and appears to be impervious to everything known to man to get off your hands and tools. So with that being said, I trust it outside in wet environments. Hopefully the jacket survives being exposed to UV day in and day out.

I mean it's cable. The problem is that I have not been able to find *any* terminals that will work with this wire. The conductors or insulation are just too large a diameter to be worked into a typical CAT5 or CAT6 connector. I have to use punchdown bridges, which is an extra expense, and a pain to deal with. That alone drops the wire from 5 stars to 2.
