Can I hook up my old onkyo receiver to my new samsung 4k tv?
    A shopper on Nov 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hello, you can use this converted to hook it up properly, but keep in mind it may not output to a proper 4k resolution and it will just be upscaled from 1080. I hope this helps, thank you!
Have older Bose Lifestyle DVD/CD player with 5 speakers and sub-woofer (a "theater system"). Want to use with new smart TV. Will this converter give me the same resolution I had before (1080)? And will the sound be good?
    A shopper on Jan 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. This converter will convert an RCA Composite output of a source and allow it to send the audio/video via HDMI. It will upscale the resolution but will not enhance the audio quality.
Can I hook up my vhs recorder to record from my smart tv with the rca hdmi converter box?
    A shopper on Jan 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hello, thank you for your question. This will not work for your desired setup as this unit will only convert Analog input (RCA) to Digital output (HDMI) and will not function in reverse. I apologize for the inconvenience
I am trying to move video from mini dvi recorder tapes to DVD through my MAC. I have both S-video and Composit outputs, and HDMI adaptor for my MAC. Should work? Hopefully?

can I use this to convert my sling box rca connection to hdmi?
    John B on Sep 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It will allow use to hdmi, resolution is probably no greater than 480 i/p.
My HDMI port in the back of my TV is busted and I'm looking to use the composite port from the TV, convert it to HDMI, so that I can still play my PS4 at high resolution. Is this possible with this product?
    A shopper on Jun 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Technically it should be, but I had no luck with the one I bought. The picture was either completely scrambled or extremely zoomed-in. I think it was an issue with the TV and not the converter, but I can't say for sure.
Is it good for video game consoles? From Gamecube and Before.
    matt c on Jun 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes It is. In fact that is what I use this converter for. I have my Saturn, Genesis, Sega Master System, Atari Jaguar, and SNES all connected to a large AV multi out unit and the monitor s-video out from that goes into one of these converters. The HDMI out from the converter then goes into my AV receiver and then back to the TV via HDMI. So I essentially have over a half dozen retro systems all connected at once and using just one HDMI input on the TV. Been using one for over 4 years daily for this and never had an issue with it.
does this work with analogue audio equipment like a FM tuner and if so does it affect the sound?
    JAMES S on Feb 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I use the device in my classroom because I still use a Sony VHS/DVD player. I unplug it when I want to show images from the PC laptop. I have not noticed any effect upon sound or image quality. This has been an essential device for me.
Will this stretch a 4.3 image to 16.9 ? I want to use this with S-video on N64 and SNES. I don't want the image stretched
    A shopper on Dec 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: NO it will not do this. In fact pretty much all images from the HDMI out are presented in 16:9 widescreen. You have to make sure that your TV will allow you to change the aspect ratio manually from HDMI input sources to get the games to display properly again. My first LED TV did not allow me to change the aspect ration on digital video sources. Now my newer one does.
Does the unit need to be reset if the source device is power cycled before a picture will be shown on the TV?
    Phil G on Apr 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: That was not what I experienced. I hooked it up and it works as expected.Enter
Will this product convert PAL input to NTSC output?
    Adam B on Sep 26, 2017
    BEST ANSWER: yes
I would like the output to have the audio from the RCA inputs to be mixed in with the video from the HDMI input. Does it to that? Or does it only mix it into the signals from the RCA and SVIDEO inputs?
    New User U on Jun 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You cannot do that. It only takes them from the rca and or svideo
Does this device convert DHCP-only video signals from devices such as the PlayStation 3 to a format usable by an Elgato HD game capture card? If so, at what framerate?
    New User U on Oct 11, 2018
Do you have a version of this that outputs at 4K 60hz instead of 1080p? I prefer not to upscale. Thanks.

I have a projector in my GAmeroom. It has s video and composite outputs only. We use it for movies and TV. My question is if I use a amazon firestick which is a HDMI. Would this work to project the image on my projector? And how do you connect them all. Thanks

This converter does a great job converting composite and s-video signals to HDMI. I noticed no lag and no upconversion defects. However, the fact that it does not allow for switching between 16:9 (widescreen) and 4:3 (fullscreen) aspect ratios is an annoyance. Luckily, I have some source material that is 16:9, but that leaves me with having to switch to using composite for my 4:3 sources hooked straight through the TV instead of the superior s-video signal. Although I am using this converter box for retro video consoles, I can only imagine the headaches for others who care about their video sources being presented correctly and wanted to use this box for cable TV, laserdisc players, or retro game consoles. If this was not already made apparent in this review section or anywhere else on the site, I will make it more known: this converter box will stretch your 4:3 aspect ratio video sources, so make sure you only use it for 16:9 sources! [Unless I am missing a feature?]

PROS: Supports s-video for newer TV's without S-video

CONS: Does not allow switching between 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio, stretching the source image

    Not for all applications.
I do retro gaming reviews on youtube. I got this to connect my old consoles using composite video out to change to HDMI out to connect to my Hauppauge HD PVR Rocket to record footage. The image did come on screen, but there was no audio. While the Rocket did let the image pass through, it would not recognize it as a recordable source, indicating that nothing was hooked up to it. I tested this with a Sega Dreamcast, and a PS2. In both cases no audio was coming through. I took the Rocket out of the chain and tested it on the TV itself. Aside from some strange flickering in some spots both the audio and the video seemed to work. For some reason this will not communicate with my Rocket, which is all I need it for.

This is probably an okay product for just hooking up older devices with composite out to HDMI only sets. My use for it is very specific, and probably only something a small percentage of people are going to use it for. While I don't think it's a huge deal it would be nice to see a choice for aspect ratio. In most cases your TV should let you control that, but it would be a nice feature to see in future iterations.

PROS: Compact. Switchable from 720p to 1080p. May be a good solution to input older devices to modern HD TV's that no longer support composite inputs.

CONS: May not work with modern hd video capture cards. No aspect ratio adjustment.

    Great Converter
I bought this for a nintendo 64, it works perfectly and it is really slim, fast shipping and great packaging. best store ever.

    PROS: super small and slim.

Works great got the S-Video output from my Bose system connected to my new Samsung Ultra High Def TV without an S-Video connection but multiple HDMI inputs. Guy at Best Buy said there wasn't any kind of adaptor that he knew about to convert my Bose S-Video out to connect to my TV. I checked the internet and couldn't find anything I had just about given up when a friend of mine said try Monoprice..com. I'm glad I did.

PROS: Easy to hook up mechanically.

CONS: Instructions are a little vague. Not all of us are up on electronic lingo.
    Excellent value.
Wanted to connect VHS player with composite outputs to receiver with HDMI inputs.

Hooked it up, plugged it in, pressed the selector button until the picture appeared and done.

    One quirk
I'm happy with the ease of use and quality of picture/sound. I found one problem, but it's not enough for me to ding the rating.

I have an old DVD player with DVI out. If I do:
DVD player DVI -> DVI-to-HDMI adapter -> converter -> TV
DVD player RCA red/white -> converter -> TV
    I get no sound.

    But if I do:
DVD player s-video or composite -> converter -> TV
DVD player RCA red/white -> converter -> TV
    I get sound.

I believe this means that the converter assumes when "HDMI in" is selected the audio is embedded on HDMI rather than checking the composite inputs. I would have preferred to have the DVD player do the analog -> digital conversion, but the s-video looks fine.

    Solved the problem
I had to replace my 36 years old CRT TV this summer and get a new LED TV. Unfortunately the new TVs no longer have S-Video ports so I could no longer use my DLV-919 combo DVD/LaserDisc player. I was about to buy a new A/V receiver that would up-convert S-Video to HDMI when I found this. It worked and allows me to watch my LaserDiscs on the new TV unfortunately for some reason DVDs don't fully upconvert and I only get grayscale video. However, my DVDR/VCR with HDMI output will work for DVDs.

    PROS: Saved me over $1,000

    Great deal
this unit does exactly as advertised. For a S-Video TO AN HDMI for 50bucks it saved me from having to buy a new entertainment system for my master bedroom that is a little outdated but still sounds and works fantastic.
The main complaint i've seen is the lights are too bright....WHO CARES!!!... turn it sideways and hide it behind your tv or entertainment center or whatever :) that's what i did and also works as a free nightlight.

PROS: best bang for the buck and so far as i'm concerned the ONLY s-video to HDMI out there.

CONS: next model or upgrade should have a auto power off or standby when no signal is present feature or at least an off switch.
that would solve the light too bright problem at least part of the time, but mainly would increase the life of the unit an reduce power waste.
    May 9, 2016
The unit worked as advertised: except for the automatic switching feature. The description claimed the unit would detect the active input and switch to it. My unit does not do this and the manual that comes with it says nothing about signal detection.

PROS: Convenient for connecting legacy equipment to your HDTV. Compact and easy to use. Does a good job of conversion with both 720p and 1080p outputs. Can share one HDTV input with S-Video source, Composite Video source and one HDMI source. Also encodes audio onto the HDMI output.

CONS: Blue power light is very bright and can be annoying if near the HDTV screen. Plastic case is a bit flimsy. Must be manually switched between inputs. No remote.
