how do i get the pin to tighten onto the wire without slipping off?
A shopper
on Dec 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Unscrew the end closest to the narrow tip. Strip the stranded cable wire jacket about a 1/2 inch or so. Feed the wire into the fat (bottom) end. When the copper strands appear at the unscrewed end, gently fold the wire threads straight down all around the barrel of the base. Then screw the tip back over the bent down strands. (There's actually a video on the Monoprice site on how to do this.) The wire stays in the plugs pretty solidly.

1 watch the video on Monoprice how to install the banana Jax
2 refer to it while you install the Jax
3 .... thread in the stripped end of cable through the disassembled jack
4 spread the loose wire fibers equillaterally around the post
5 gently screw the other part of the lack onto the post you prepped and tighten till snug

Cut the stripped wire strands just long enough to fold over the end of the collar then tighten the pin over the collar. The folded ends of the wire will be trapped between the collar and the pin and hold there.

There is an instructional video on the Monoprice product page that shows how to assemble the connectors. I suggest viewing that as it will be the most effective answer to your question.

Unscrew the bottom piece. Match your black or red wire , then thread thru the bottom. Bend the wires down around the bottom threads. Screw back onto the the main section securing the wire. Insert plug into appropriate slot on back of speaker you are connecting, matching the red and black. Hope this helps. Thanks.

It's very easy to connect bare wire with these. You slide the wire in and screw the back half of the connector down. These worked well for me and at this price they are a real bargain. Hope that helps.

How many screws on each connector?
A shopper
on Sep 10, 2019
BEST ANSWER: They don't use screws. You seperate the connector by unscrewing it then insert the bare wire into the bottom half of the connector and spread the strands over the connector. Then screw it back together again. No seperate screws needed..

One screw on each connector. Pin has threads that screw on to the main connector to hold the stranded wires in place..

Can a banana plug be plugged into the back of one of these instead of a wire to make it into a banana plug to spring pin adapter?

No. I was hoping to do the same but the banana plug male side is too big for the female side of this plug.

What size are the pin connectors? The openings on my receiver are very small, and the 12 gauge wire I bought will not fit without a lot of trimming of the copper strands (defeating the purpose of a larger wire). I could go with a higher gauge wire I know, but I bought the 12 gauge so thought I'd try to use it and get the benefits of the lower gauge wire. If the pin connectors fit the receiver that would be great.

What is the effective gauge or the diameter or the PIN?
I see the PIN end is sectioned, can you trim the end to shorten them without damaging them?
Why on earth did you not insulate these? Without adding some sort of insulation this is a disaster waiting to happen since the spring clips are usually pretty close together, especially on older receivers.

Great Value
Product arrived timely and the quality is top notch. Exactly what I expected from the photo on line. Couldn't ask for a better value, and I highly recommend Monoprice for audio accessories.

Perfect for many different types of receivers and outlets
Be sure to seat the wires somewhat evenly, and these are fantastic speaker plugs! You can clip them to an appropriate length.

Not a good connection
Did not work as intended. The spring connections on the speakers and receiver do not hold these securely enough to prevent them from bumping together. They flop around, presenting the possibility of a short. They would be OK for use with binding post connections, but a good choice for spring clips.

Neat and Easy
This is the way to go if you're still connecting your speakers with bare wire.. Attaching these pin connectors to my cable was a breeze. Well worth the time and money.

Redesign needed
These pin plugs would be really nice if outside walls were insulated?however they are not and if you have a confined area where these pins connect the positive and negative will touch? not good unless you insulate them like I did with shrink tubing.

audio adapters sx980
they don't work to connect to vintage sx980 pioneer receiver because the outer part you tighten to hold wire isn't insulated from the inner part-so too much chance of hitting each other on back of spring loaded amp connections-which are floppy at best, with catastrophic results from a potentially dead short
