can I use this active cable with an active mini display port to HDMI adapter? or does one or the other have to be passive?

BEST ANSWER: Stick with passive if you can, I haven't been having any issues with passive adapters. The Apple brand USB-C to HDMI adapter refuses to work with this cable, but will work with a passive cable. I can't find the specs on the apple adapter that states if it's passive or not, but that could very well be the issue.

BEST ANSWER: Active cables can send more information over greater distances than the passive cables. Because of this, the information will only flow down the cable in one direction.

I am unable to use my Monoprice Active select series with Redmere technology with my iMac using an adapter HDMI to thunderbolt to connect to the iMac . I do know the cable work (50 ft long) as I have tried it with a laptop which I plugged one end to laptop HDMI adaptor and other end to my Samsung HDTV and it work fine . Even stranger, it work fine when I use a 30 Feet cable Monoprice Active select with my iMac and adapter HDMI to Thunderbolt. The only difference is the lenght of the cable 50 ft versus 30 feet. Does anybody have had this problem trying to connect from a iMac to an HDTV using a 50 ft cable ?

BEST ANSWER: Another trick is to first do setup operation with a shorter cable to the unrecognizable device. Use the device with the short cable so that it is proven to be hardware recognized and initialized, then try the long cable. Sometimes a signal only needs enough power to send the data; but the hardware recognition and initialization rendezvous requires too much power to get started.

I have had multiple all in one computers hooked up to these cables, 1 out of 3 computers will work in the same setup. The video cards just don't push enough power out. A hdmi repeater/ booster should help

Can you tell me if any of the HDMI cables will also pass infrared controls to change channels on a cable box? I want to connect a cable box that is about 50' away and, for obvious reasons, I need to be able to use the remote control.
Thank you

Thank you for answering my question. However i still don't know if the HDMI cable has to be capable of passing the control signals or just the TV needs to have that "CEC" capability?
Then I would think that any HDMI cable (even fiber) can support the infrared controls if the TV has such an option. Correct?

Can this cable pass through a normal 1080 HD signal as well as 4K in the same cable? I want to future proof my Home theater and lay new cables that can still pass 1080 for now and when I am ready for 4K, it will be able to pass through this same high speed cable. If this is not the cable for that, please point me to a better cable. Thanks!

Good Quality
Monoprice always have what I need. The cable was somewhat slim for a 50" cable which is just what I needed.

Solid Cable
A great piece. I’ve used it to run signal from my basement up to the first floor from a Mac mini to a 4K TCL Roku monitor so I can edit on either floor with the aid of a wireless mouse and keyboard. Solid picture; no latency, no bad sync. I would recommend for anybody who needs an inexpensive, quality cable to extend hdmi video over a good distance.

Ok at best
It’s ok but anything over 25’ is a crapshoot if it will work. I have a 50’ that works fine for an Xbox One or Cable Box at lower resolution, but won’t work at all with a 4K blu ray player. Even with the other devices, it is intermittent

I can see a SLIGHT difference between this cable and Mono’s higher priced ones. That said, I have multiples of this cable and they’ve all worked flawlessly. Thank you for the smooth customer service even during the holidays.
