I have ordered 6 cartridges so far. one totally failed out of the first batch of 3 and I was told I would get a refund on my credit card since they would not send me a new one. On the second batch of 3. 1 failed about part way into its use ( not many pages).. Haven't called about this one yet for a refund. I've ordered 3 more, so we will see how that goes. I like the price, of course, but worry whether they will work or not when I need them.
The blotchiness disappeared with the replacement cartridge, but the type was not quite as sharp (or black) as the OEM cartridge. Also not quite as sharp (or black) as an identical remanufactured cartridge I purchased from Monoprice last year (odd, that). Still, quite usable for text and showed good results printing photos on photo paper. Lacking a better explanation as to why, I cling to my theory that the ink (which is water based) might have frozen in transit this winter and degraded. Should find out this summer if that has any application. THE BOTTOM LINE: I was about to throw away my HP Deskjet 6940 because of the high price of HP ink, but now I'm going to keep it.
PROS: Monoprice support quick to replace the defective cartridge.
Replacement cartridge functioned much better.
CONS: Not quite perfect. FYI, I'm a 30+ year veteran of the graphic arts industry, and have a sharp eye for type.
All nozzles were functional, but the print was grayish and splotchy on paper. Small text looked fuzzed out or plugged. Oddly enough, I found an identical unopened MPI remanufactured cartridge tucked away and forgotten in the back of a shelf (interior bag still sealed). That cartridge is at least 6 months old. I removed the new cartridge and installed 6 month the old cartridge. It took a cleaning or two, but the black output is now dark and sharp, easily comparable to an HP original. Clearly the newer MPI has bad ink and older one has good ink.
It makes one wonder: why the difference? Just a bad batch of ink? We're dealing with water based ink, so I wonder if the cartridge froze during shipping. On the other hand, I ordered an MPI 97 cartridge at the same time, and they got here together. That cartridge worked fine from the very first print.
My OfficeJet 7410 recognized the cartridge as a refill, but it did install successfully. The print appears to be crisp and consistent. I'm hoping that it lasts nearly as long as an OEM, but that may be difficult to judge. At this point, I will continue to purchase these.
PROS: Inexpensive, Seems to work as well as a genuine HP
I tried using my last "new" black ink cartridge today, because the installed cartridge was doing such a crappy job of printing. The printer would not even recognize the new cartridge when I installed it. I've had this problem before, and previously it would work after removing and reinstalling. This time, no dice. No matter what I tried, the printer would not recognize the new cartridge. I hate to think that my only options are these piece of junk and inexpensive remanufactured cartridges, or HP way overpriced original cartridges. Has anyone found a different option?
PROS: Hopefully Monoprice will refund the purchase price.
CONS: Printer will not recognize the cartridge cannot be used.
Here'a what I wrote about this product a year ago:
"This remanufactured cartridge is barely OK for unimportant documents. It consistently fails to print all the characters or complete characters at the end of printed lines, especially near the top of the page. You would absolutely not want to use it for professional or presentation documents. I also had quite a bit of trouble getting the printer to recognize the cartridge when it was first installed- very frustrating.
In my experience, this is one of the few Monoprice products where you really do get what you pay for. I will try this cartridge one more time to make sure that I didn't just get a bad one, but if I have the same experience, I will be looking elsewhere for an HP-96 equivalent."
So, I tried the cartridge one more time and got the same results. I'm not complaining, just warning. Maybe there are decent remanufactured ink cartridges out there, but this ain't it.
Little use from remanufactured black ink cartridge
Okay, but not great.
PROS: I've appreciated the savings from buying rmanufactured ink cartridges. The prices are reasonable & delivery is quick.
CONS: However, I've had problems with at least 1 cartridge from each of my last 2 orders. The last black cartridge I opened only worked for 2 weeks, & I'm not a heavy user. In my previous order 1 of the color cartridges would not work at all. I was actually sorry that I'd recommended you to some other small business owners.
