I am using these cables lightly - like only once every few months. I really do "baby" my cables. Nevertheless, somehow, one of my connectors has already cracked open. It still works, but the connector (or sleeve?) is now broken. In addition to that, the locking mechanism doesn't actually seem to lock the cable; I can still "twist" the connector while it's connected to a speaker box. That's not right, is it? The cable wire itself seems fine. But can I justify buying more of these? (Even though I need more.)
Truly sorry for any inconvenience while using this cable. From your feedback, it sounds like you may have a defective item. If you can please reach out to us direct at firstname.lastname@example.org with your order information, we can look into see what options are available for replacement.
I haven't had trouble with Monoprice cables in the past, so when I read one review indicating the connectors made a poor connection, I wrote it off as a one-off. But here I am with the same problem. Plugged it in to my QSC amp and I can't get a good connection without applying sideways pressure on the connector. Sorry for the "1" rating, but the cable really isn't any good if it doesn't work, no matter how nice the wire part is.
I'm just glad I thought to test the cable before next week's dance I'm doing PA for!
The speakon connector did not make contact and had to be jiggled to get audio to come out. I realized this after running the 50 foot cable through conduit so I ended up having to buy higher quality speakon connectors and re-terminate the ends. Ended up costing more than double.
Face it folks.....you can't get a better deal on REAL 12/2 pro type speaker cable, even without the connectors. Don't get fooled by other "Pro" brands that cheat on wire gauge. If your use of this is mission critical, get some Neutrik brand connectors for peace of mind. Monoprice is THE place for quality cables of any type!
PROS: Quality Cable - actually 12 AWG 12/2!
CONS: Connectors appear OK, but quality is questionable.
I would recommend these cables to anyone needing Speakon cables for thier system. I've purchased several more of these since.
These cables work for full-range use... but not bi-amped use. Which is OK for a lot of systems out there. But thier missing the couplers, 4-wire cables, and Y-cable adapters for use with bi-amped speaker enclosures. Because of this I had to purchase those items seperately from this site... which I really would rather not do... but had no choice.
PROS: Good quality solid cables that last and last. Great for full-range applications.
I like this cable, don't get me wrong, but the connector on the ends is so frail I was shocked. It is absurd when you're trying to figure out the locking mechanism, without it plugged in, that the pieces came apart. Luckily they can be put back together just as easily. I have a Neutrix connector on a different cable (connector model NL4FX) to compare to. On that connector, the locking slider can never come off because the connector has a special slot that stops it from moving. On this one, the cheap slider can be popped off with your thumb. Like I said, it works, just don't mess with it too much. In comparison to my other cable, though the price is amazing. My other cable is a 2 ft. Speakon to 1/4", and it cost me about the same as this 50'.
PROS: -Solid cabling -Connectors work and look legit -Great price
