Is this just one cable or are there three cables, one going to each pin?
A shopper
on May 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Each of the four individual cables has two conductors and a ground, connected in the industry standard EIA Standard RS-297-A arrangement. Technically, this translates to pin 1 being connected to the ground shield, pin 2 and pin 3 being connected to the wires shielded by the ground shield. Depending on your use and the reason for asking the question, yes, there are three separate paths for the flow of signal.

This is technically 4 cables wrapped in a sleeve. There are four cables and four XLR connectors with 3 pins each which is the standard XLR configuration. In other words, you could connect 4 XLR mics to a mixer with this cable although the 3 foot length is not practical for that but it works great for equipment that is within 3 feet.

Yes! this is 4 balanced xlr cables that are snaked together. Each xlr cable has 3 wires in it. It's perfect for wireless mics to connect to a mixer.

Are the XLR Nutrik or standard.?
A shopper
on Jun 2, 2019
They have a generic connector, not Neutrik, but same style. The wiring inside is a standard 3-wire, not a quad-star wiring pattern.

at this price, don't expect Nutrik. unless you mean are they XLR-3. This question should go to a forum, not to another buyer!

the wiring looks smaller gauge than typical mic XLR Cables., but wonderfully need and tidy in the equipment cabinet. ..I plan to use for a PRE-Pro Marantz to Amp configuration (Monolith 7) will these induce any further interference than say good RCA's or the Stage Right or Premier series of XLR? I need only 3 feet...... I noticed there is also a Quad shielded XLR from MP...if anyone has any experience with any of these for my application, I would be appreciative. All this said, I am running high quality 3 foot shielded Coaxial RCA's now, and can detect no noise and have great clarity...is it worth it to "upgrade" to XLR's? thanks again.

BEST ANSWER: The gauge of the cable is typical stage snake gauge wire, 26 AWG, no extra noise when used on stage, no extra noise on rack.
I use this to connect from my analog crossover to my power amplifiers, everything goos so far, 4 channel for 2 subs, 2 mid/highs.
No need to upgrade from RCA's if it's working, that being said, XLR is a balanced cable, as compared to RCA being unbalanced, so there is that.

The wire gauge is similar to any other xlr snake that I've encountered. I've used these in pro audio situations where I need to get from aux outs on a mixer to power amplifiers for monitors. They worked just fine for my application. Any of this Monoprice cabling isn't going to use the highest quality of components, and the price reflects that, but they seem to function just fine.

These cables are intended for low impedance, balanced connections. For high impedance unbalanced RCA connections, you should use a coax type cable which is better suited for your application.

If your coaxial RCAs are working fine with no noise, there's no reason to upgrade to XLR cables. Just keep the RCAs away from any power cords... that's where you can get hung up.

What is the copper wire gauge inside?
A shopper
on Nov 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: We investigated the first one we bought. The cores are copper 24 AWG, sized using a Klien wire stripper/cutter. The connectors are in the style of Neutrik, and well made. Insulation and binding sleeve are PVC. We've never needed to repair one over the course of the last 2 or three years we've used these.

Hi,
It is either 24 or 26 gauge. Easy to strip using the proper wire stripper tool, and easy to solder. The wire insulation is robust considering the low cost. In addition, the wire is actually copper as opposed to aluminum and the shielding is braided copper instead of foil like most less expensive multi-core cables.

How are these cables shielded?
A shopper
on Mar 6, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Each of the four color coded wires contains a single twisted pair along with a braided copper shield that also terminates to Pin 1 as the audio ground. This is ideal for a balanced audio connection which already benefits from the twisted pair.
The shield/drain wire is not soldered to the additional tab that would enjoin the connector shell and it might not be desirable to do so for an a;ready balanced audio link.

Does the 3 ft length of this cable include length of the the XLR connectors, or is it the length of the wires only, with the connectors being extra? The vertical distance between the centres of my devices’ XLR connectors is 32 in, so the cable would not be long enough if the 3 feet length includes the connectors.

Great value!
Good quality, great price!. I used to hear a hum/buzz in my speakers (only audible with my ear at the speaker. I can't say the cables solved this because I also changed to a new (used) surround processor at the same time, but it is totally silent.

PA Hook Up
I needed a very short XLR4 plex cable to hook up a wireless mic system to my PA and this was very reasonably priced and worked perfectly well. Another Monoprice winner! Thanks.

Three Foot Long, Four-Channel Snake Fills the Bill
I have a four-channel field recorder that I needed to attach to three wireless mic transceivers in a rack less than a yard away. This tiny snake perfectly fills the bill. I'm a little concerned about the smaller, more exposed wires jiggling loose from the connectors over time. But, I know how to solder, so... Oh, and the price. Oh, yeah. Very nice. Monoprice almost always comes though on the odd thing I suddenly find myself needing, and at a price that is simply the best.

Works great, just measure your lengths first
Picked up four of these for connecting outputs of HTP-1 to my amplifiers. No issues with the cables, they all worked fine and fit snug. However, advice to others would be to consider going slightly longer in length - I thought 3 feet would be plenty, but ended up just barely being enough given where my components sit on their rack. That's not an issue with the product (it's the stated length), but me not thinking about the exact route the cable would have to take (I just measured direct height difference from processor to amplifier).
