Is it possible to mount this rack safely when your studs are 24" on center and the area in which I need to mount it I won't be able to hit any studs.? I only plan to have a patch panel, 16 port switch and power supply in the rack.

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
This would only work for studs with 16" of space between them.

While the answer of using a small board to span the distance will work, a common solution in the industry - even if studs are on 16" centers - is to attach a larger 3/4" plywood board to the wall and mount to it. This will give more stability than using a board that is only as tall as the rack and only as wide as the single set of studs, and it can be used to mount other devices nearby, giving greater stability for all of them. Some service providers want their equipment to be mounted to a 4'x8'x3/4" sheet of fire-retardant plywood, and fire inspectors want to see the stamp on the plywood that it's fire-retardant, so if you paint the panel, don't paint over that. (MP rules don't let me link to the guidelines.)
My space is not 4ft wide, so I'll have to rip the board to the available width. It will seem as if that wall is just a solid wood wall, which will work fine for me.

Definitely not. I tried mounting it with one side on a stud and the other side on 2x 50# wallboard anchors. The rack is too deep — the leverage torques the anchors right out of the wall. However, mounting it to a concrete block wall with proper concrete anchors has worked very well with network gear, so some weight, but I'm well under 1/2 of the combined weight rating of the anchors.

I realize your question was asked a year ago; however, I thought I would add an answer in case someone else had the same question. If your studs are too far apart you could attach two pieces of 1x lumber to the wall spanning the distance between the dtuds and then mount the rack to that.

Is it possible to stack 2 of the 4U mount to make it an 8U?

on May 15, 2023
BEST ANSWER: It would stack pretty tight, but I wouldn't count on it aligning well enough if you have something that's going to be screwed into both racks — the machining tolerance just isn't that tight. It would visually appear as one 8U rack if have two 4U sets of gear though. Or, if you have a component that's 3U or more, leave 1U or so worth of space in the middle: mount one to the wall, then use the gear to help you align the second one and mark your drill holes, remove gear to drill and mount the second, then reattach gear.

They have no provision for nesting or stacking, but if mounted precisely should work fine. If a device was connected to both upper and lower mounts, it should be possible to align them for a nice appearance.

Yes it is, however I would recommend getting a different rack for those dimensions.

If there was enough room vertically, you could double stack these

The screws to mount on the wall could be anything. Just be sure to screw into wall studs or use a properly rated wall anchor. The component screws should match your equipment. In my case the equipment used M6 screws.

Rack screws are standard, usually rack mount equipment comes with screws. But this rack comes with a bag of screws in a nice glossy black finish, so I just use those.

What's the depth?
A shopper
on Jul 25, 2020
BEST ANSWER: It’s 12 inches deep perfect for most rack network components. I have a power bar, patch panel & switch mounted in mine with no issues. There is room for one more rack component for future needs.

7 inchs high (4 RU). Typical 19 inch across (standard rack width), and 12 inches deep.
If ordering a shelf, ensure you use correct depth.

One out of two IS bad
I got exactly what I expected in the package - two lightweight wall mounted 4U brackets. When I put the first one up however, I couldn't get the screws started on the left side. I thought it was me - so I tried again..and again. Finally, I switched to the right side, and boom - two screws in the panel. Went back to the left, and...no joy. Took that one down, and tested the other one before I put it on the wall. Everything was fine. So it was half of a good experience.

Just what I wanted.
I bought this to organize the network cables in my basement. I was easy to mount. I was able to rack mount my switch and the patchpanel, I did add a piece pf plywood to the top, to hold the router, as it is not rack mountable.

Works fine, flimsy
Works fine. Love that it has built-in nuts. But very flimsy and wobbly
Be careful when installing. Even half a degree slope looks very wonky

good but small
I bought this to help me place a Unifi UDM Pro in the basement and act as a sort of central touchpoint for my wired network. it's small and as other have said a bit flimsy until fully installed and populated (the sound it makes when you pick it up reminds me of a saw blade). so far, so good, it's exactly what I was looking for!
however, this just BARELY fits the UDM pro and does not have room for the power cord so I'm having to buy a 90 degree cord to get my network up and running. womp womp womp.
that being said, I'm still really happy with it and would recommend it!
