Does this work fine with a basic keyboard and mouse without needing the optional AC adapter? (Description says AC adapter is required for hard drives or to charge phones.) Thanks.
Do you know how many Amps it provides at its output? The USB port it plugs into provides 0.5A @ 5V, and the repeater is using some of that to boost the signal. Do you know how much is left for the two USB devices connected at the output? Thanks again.

I was having trouble getting my cheap USB camera to work through the extension, so grabbed my handy USB inline power logger to troubleshoot. I found that the output of the port with the power supply not attached was only 4.5V. Horrible. With the 5V 1A supply I bought from Monoprice attached, it reached 4.98V. Not great - I have other hubs that reach 5.15V (no device attached in either case). I then plugged in the USB camera on one of the two ports, and saw the camera was pulling 70 mA, well below the USB spec of 500 mA for a USB 2.0 port, but the voltage dropped to 4.69, and my PC wasn't recognizing my camera. Not sure if issue is with the 5V 1A supply I bought or this extension, but the extension is basically worthless without the supply, UNLESS you add another powered USB hub to the end of the extension. I did so, and the output of THAT hub was 5.14V to my connected camera, which started working.
So - if you don't need to draw more than 5 mA of current through the extension, it's passable. If you need ANYTHING more than that, it's basically worthless.
Extension with USB power monitor + camera attached.
Does the job. Would be nice if there was a way to make the usb ports modular for ease of passing it through small spots but otherwise does the job as advertised.
Needed the extra long cable to run a remote disc to my main system. Even though I was using a powered disc I still needed to connect the power supply to the cable to get the connection to stay stable. So far the connection has stayed up and appears to be running well.
I use to connect an xbox-one game controller and an A/D converter to my PC. My specific application is for playing Rocksmith 2014, which requires an electric guitar connection. I have discerned no audio latency issues, which is crucial for playing this game.
This is a great alternative to the typical wireless keyboard/mouse combo, which you normally find in any conference room. For use with thin clients mounted next to the projector, this cable enables you to keep your privacy using just a single wire from ceiling to table.
The perfect solution for streaming with multiple usb cameras
I used three of these cables connected to connect 6 C920 web cams to a Vantec UGT-PCE430-4C usb host controller. The cables were a perfect solution for my needs and worked flawlessly. I had planned on using 1 active cable attached to a hub but, this cut down on the number of cable runs making my setup cleaner and cheaper. I was able to add 3 cameras to one of the cable end points by attaching a usb hub. I should also mention that I used a passive 10ft cable in my chain. Excellent product and price!
PROS: Extends length of usb cable over passive cabling. Split one port into two with built in hub. Easy to use, reliable and affordable.
I am using this in an unpowered configuration to connect my HP dc7800 with USB 2.0 ports running iSpy to a USB camera with auto-switching IR lens and IR lights. The computer has a second USB camera connected on a different port as well. All of the wiring is indoors (except the last few inches) and the camera is mounted on the exterior of my house. After a couple of months things are still performing very well. A great solution for my setup.,
PROS: Perfect length. Adequate power for USB camera without using optional power supply.
