BEST ANSWER: A reply from Jacob A mentions the need for a Y-splitter. This may not always be the case, however. Many of these LFE subwoofers merely sum the L & R Line Inputs (i.e. RCA connectors) together internally via a summing amplifier stage. This would make sense since there is only a single channel power amplifier driving a single subwoofer speaker driver. As with the RCA/Line Inputs, the HIgh-Level Speaker Inputs have a built-in resistor voltage divider (i.e. attenuator) to lower this signal voltage down to a level better suited for the RCA Line Level Inputs. So, short answer long, you don't necessarily need the Y-splitter, internally this subwoofer's circuitry is already combining the signals from either L or R inputs.

It doesn't matter what color the cables are, only the functions of the connectors. The sub has analog input, so only an analog output can be connected. These are usually Red/Black or Red/White on most equipment. Coaxial Digital outputs also use an RCA but are usually orange in color. You cannot connect to this type of output.

It does not come with the cables themselves, but accepts them as inputs for line level/sub input. Its a rare sub now a days that will take anything but at least 1 RCA input (this sub wants 2 RCA inputs, so if your amp/reciever only has one line/sub out you will need a Y splitter)

Yes, you need an RCA "y", (2) RCA male to (1) RCA female
From the item description:
"If you are using an amplifier with a single mono subwoofer line level output, simply use an RCA "Y" cable to split the output and send it to the two line level inputs on the subwoofer."

Yes it will work with a Single cable. However you will only here bad coming from either right or left depending which RCA you use. You can purchase and additional Y-adapter (two male ends, and one female end) that you plug into the back of the subwoofer in order to get bass from the right and the left.

The subwoofer is mono. The OP has a mono output, so only one input is needed. There would be no difference using two unless the source has a left/right output as well. (40 years audio professional).

To add, you should probably use the left input if using only one. Many amplifiers auto-on circuits detect signal only on the left input.

As a powered sub it can accept any audio line level output. If your computer sound board has a subwoofer output it can accept that. Feeding an audio line to it will cause it to reproduce the frequencies between 50 and 250 hz.

BEST ANSWER: Great question! I am actually running the sub in-line right now. Basically you can just run speaker wire from your amp speaker outs to the speaker input on the sub and you can either run more speaker wire out of the same inputs to your speakers, or directly from the same amp outputs you run the wire to the sub from. Sounds confusing, but it is very simple. Just remember that the wire running to the sub is really only providing signal to the sub, the actual sub amp is doing the heavy lifting for the sub.

Just connect the inputs to the sub and the speakers in parallel. You can either 1) Run separate pairs from the receiver to each speaker and each terminal on the sub (so each of your receiver terminals will have two wires, or 2) You can run wires from the receiver to the sub, then run wires from the sub to each speaker, in which case the sub terminals will each have two wires.

This unit has high-level inputs which take the powered signal from your amplifier. I ran separate home runs from the amp to the subwoofer and from the amp to the loud speakers. The subwoofer leads were screwed down to the posts and the loud speakers plugged into the same posts with banana plugs. I think that technically it means the sub is wired in parallel.

You can use speaker wire direct from your receiver, either from your main terminals twisted with your stereo speaker wire or from your B terminals if your receiver can run A/B simultaneously. So it will be source to speakers and sub.

I have a TV subwoofer for my TV, with a single AUX out (3.5mm) labeled for a subwoofer; will this work with it?

BEST ANSWER: This sub has an L and R RCA inputs, so if your TV, soundbar, or reciever only has a single channel output for subwoofer, you can do one of two things:
1) Just plug the single input to the L or R input. You will still get signa and outputl, but it will be at reduced volume
2) Buy a Y-adapter that combines 2 RCA channels into a single channel.
If your TV has a 3.5mm output, in order to use this Sub, you will also need a way to convert 3.5mm to RCA inputs, as this sub ONLY has RCA and amplified inputs.

The subwoofer has two RCA jacks on the rear panel, for left and right inputs. According to the manufacturer's instruction booklet, a single channel such as you describe would require a Y-connector with two RCA male plugs connected to whatever plug you need for your connection. These Y-connectors are typically short, so you might also need a cord to span the distance between the two units.

Can I connect it to a plain flat screen TV to get a better bass?
A shopper
on Feb 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes, unless your TV has rca stereo outputs that cancel out your tv's internal speakers when used. If using the rca outputs do cancel out the internal speakers, like my TV does, you'll need to connect to a sound system of some sort first, then output to the subwoofer inputs since this model doesn't have rca outputs. You can however go straight to the subwoofer inputs from the TV then connect some passive speakers to the speaker cable outputs of the subwoofer. 60 watts should be fine with a small set of speakers.

It depends upon your TV. If it has the connectors that match the rear coneectors of the subwoofer, then yes, it could be used to add bottom end and it does have a built in volume and crossover adjustment. BUT, your TV mus be able to use internal speakers and external at the same time, and it should also have a delay matching adjustment, although out of sync audio isn’t too noticable with just the woofer as an external speaker. You need to dig into your TV’s manual.

If there is no sub out connection, if the receiver has a a/b speaker selector, you can connect a or b to the subs input. These would be the only ways to utilize the sub

No, the TV audio out will direct all sound to the subwoofer and you will lose the higher and mid range pitches. You could use it with a surround sound system with a bass output. It gets more technical than its worth to try and create a work around for your current set up.

Can I connect 2 subs up to one rca output on my sound bar using the appropriate Y cables?

BEST ANSWER: I think this will work. The woofer's input is stereo with left and right RCA jacks. If you're seeking higher bass volume, two woofers might be overkill. I use one and it's plenty loud enough.
If you want separate left and right woofers, y-connect each woofer separately to the left and right stereo outputs on your sound bar, if it has them.

You say "If you are using an amplifier with a single mono subwoofer line level output, simply use an RCA "Y" cable to split the output and send it to the two line level inputs on the subwoofer." Is the splitter required, or will it work with the single line level connection from the amp to either the L or the R channel?
If a splitter is required, what is the center-to-center spacing between the two LINE IN RCA jacks? I'm hoping it will be the same as the spacing on Product # 7195 "RCA Jack to 2x RCA Plug Splitter", to avoid additional cable length and connections.

I ordered this splitter and the spacing was perfect on the back of my older NHT Sub amplifier. I went from a Vizio soundbar with a single Sub output to the Sub Amp which has standard stereo Amp left and right input.. Works like a Champ!

Will (2) of your 8” subwoofers (Product 8248) put out enough bass for a 13X13 living room? This will be used for home theater and listening to music.

BEST ANSWER: The 8" speakers would probably not have enough dynamic range for some theater setups, but as a supplemental source of bass in movies they should work ok.
I use 1 to fill in the lower frequencies of my bookshelf speakers, in a small room. If the music you play has a lot of thump, or if you watch a lot of action movies, probably wouldn't be that great.

Bass level is very subjective...but I have just one in a room that size, and the bass is very nice. I suspect two of these, turned up a little, would give very decent bass. It's not going to shake the house, but you will feel it!

Clarity of theater sound needs you to consider a sub that extends down to 20hz or lower. You can do better for home theater than this unit. This units sweet spot is 45-50hz. Too high for dinosaurs or earth quakes.

I agree, I don't see any outputs. And by the way, it is very rare for subwoofers to have high-passed outputs, and (stupidly) rare for stereo amps to be able to accommodate that. You need an audio-video receiver.

Can I use this with a dvd/cd player in my RV?
A shopper
on Dec 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This unit can work with the AV system in an RV, but compatibility is more about your amplifier than your disc player. You need to split the audio signal for your existing speakers, sending full left-right audio to this subwoofer in addition to your main speakers. The larger sub from Monoprice works in series with your other speakers, this 8" model works in parallel. I can't imagine needing the added bass in a RV-hosted system, though. Seems like a better place for high-grade headphones.

It depends on what type of audio outputs your player has.
If the player has RCA audio outputs, you can connect this, but you will only get the low frequency sounds.
If you have amplified speaker outputs, this can connect to get the signal and pass it through to passive speakers
Also consider this is 110V AC.. Many RV systems work off the 12V DC (battery) system.

Hi. I just took delivery today along with a MONOPRICE 16153 stereo tube hybrid integrated amp. Got it hooked up utilizing the 16153's pre-outs to the RCA sub inputs. The speakers I am using through the regular speaker outputs from the amp are 8" 2-way Infinity bookshelf models that are very efficient.
My trouble is the subwoofer does not seem to deliver output. The power light is on, and the connections are secure, yet even when moving the sub's volume control all the way up, I get next to no sound.
What can I do, friends? THX in advance....

Unless the amp has a subwoofer specific rca pre out it wont let you control the volume with the amps volume control. You will need to run amplified speaker wire input into the subs amplified input and it will work great.

BEST ANSWER: The amp I use does not have A and B speaker outputs, nor line or subwoofer outputs. So I ran speaker wire from the amp speaker output to the high level input on the subwoofer and then speaker wire from the same terminals on the subwoofer to the main speakers. You just have to select wire size that will allow two wires to be inserted into the high level input of the subwoofer. Work fine for my application. Running wire from the A outputs of your receiver to your main speakers and from the B outputs of your receiver to the high level inputs of the subwoofer certainly will work. If you want secondary speakers on the B output of the receiver, you could still have the subwoofer if you hooked that up like I did.

Using this subwoofer in a dedicated room for computers, the room is not that large 11'x12' and the subwoofer works great, a space much larger and I think the bass would get lost but for it's current situation it works fine.

Great subwoofer for the price - unbeatable
I have a pair of Audioengine 1s on my desktop, and they are great for the price but are quite small and don't have much base.
My desk space is small, and I didn't want to spend a lot of $ on my desktop system. I researched lower-priced, powered, smaller subwoofers, and there isn't a ton out there.
I got the Monoprice 8-inch sub on sale directly from Monoprice, and I'm super happy with it. It won't fill a large room with overpowering bass, but it does a great job of filling in where the Audioengines can't provide bass, and if I want to turn things up, the system is surprisingly good.
The only downside I have is that the sub isn't doing much at low volumes, which are pretty typical for me working at my desk. If I want to change the volume I have to do it at the back of the sub, which works fine but is a bit of a pain. For a better fix, I ordered a Fosi SK01 headphone preamp with bass and treble controls and a loudness feature.
It was fun putting the system together and I've been enjoying music much more.
My desk space is small, and I didn't want to spend a lot of $ on my desktop system. I researched lower-priced, powered, smaller subwoofers, and there isn't a ton out there.

Great value
I bought this sub to fill in a bit of low range within a large room, as an addition to some towers. It's done just what I wanted. I could go for a slight bit more kick. But for the price, it's a great sub and a great value. I'm glad I bought it.

Nothing special...very entry level
Very basic. Boomy and undefined bass. Probably best suited for a small room as an add on for a computer set up.

Monoprice 8in 60-Watt Powered Subwoofer, Black
It produces deeper bass than other Subwoofer I have in at home. Explosions comes alive, actually they can be felt. Good product at good price in my opinion..
