Is the 50W speaker volume control (8241) compatible with the the 15W Tube Amp (611815)? I'd like to be able to run the amp up to full power into an external speaker but keep the volume down.
Great product for wired stereos. I have a preamp with an A and B channel but always had a problem of the B speakers being too loud. Not anymore. Thanks for a great product. I may even order a second for my bedroom.
These were just what I was looking for. I used low-voltage old-work frames to hold them in the wall and I had no issues at all. No defects. The only thing I found was in getting the wires to insert into the connectors - only take about 1/8" of insulation off the wire and that will keep the wire stiff and makes it much easier to insert for tightening. These have click-stops for the individual volume settings, but the handle rotates smoothly and is solid.
The wire hookups are a bit difficult to master. Also, highly recommend a low voltage frame versus trying to fit inside of a box. It's a bit on the large side. Great feel to the control, but I've noticed that while the volume decreases at a steady rate, the bass doesn't seem as balanced at lower volumes.
I spent a few days installing and testing 6 of these units. I'd say the value is definitely there but have a few nit-picks on the default setup and documentation. I thought the volume potentiometer would turn smoothly but the unit has about 10 discrete clicks instead, just something to be aware of. I have these each connected to a pair of 50W 8 ohm speakers.
PROS: Nice Look. Was able to fit the unit in a different wall plate to better match finish. Product functions as expected.
CONS: The wall plate that is included isn't as wide as most single-gang wall plates, this left our box so that you could see tears in the drywall in many cases. Luckily we could switch it out. The documentation indicates that the standard configuration for the jumper is 1x (single pair of 8 ohm speakers) but on all of my units the jumper default was set to 2x, be sure to check yours.
I bought a pair of these about six months. I was slowly compiling my supplies for my dream den/workshop sound system. About a month ago, I was finally able to get all my components in and had a professional installer come over and install the 2 volume controls, 4 speakers (2 per volume control unit), connected to a my receiver. Install took a little less than a day considering all the attic work and having to drill some holes in my wall. We test everything out and it sounds good. Everything's a-ok.
About a month after I have them install, I decide I'm going to go out to my garage and turn on the music for the 3 time since having the system installed. I turn on the music on my receiver at about 30 and on medium on the knob for about 20 minutes. I then go to turn it down a little and I notice the knob on the volume control was vibrating. A second later, the sound cuts out. I go to my receiver to see if Pandora had closed down and saw my receiver saying I should check the speaker wires.
Next day, I call my installer. He comes over and checks the job and tells me the unit burned out and that I should order another one...but recommends that I go with 100W to make sure it doesn't go out again. He says that he's seen this before with this model. So, here I am, I ordered a 100W volume control unit...which should come in today...and I'm dreading how much longer the 2nd original unit is going to hold out before it goes kaput. Don't buy this product. Go for the 100W item.
PROS: It looks nice and the installation is rather easy
CONS: Won't take much power without dying on you. Easily burns out.
I've bought several of these, very nice & good quality. I like the selectable jumpers to adjust impedance - only gripe I have is that one was shipped with a missing jumper. Fortunately I had one that worked from an old failed hard drive. Aside from that, can't complain!!
