Can I run three separate speaker pairs through this, leave all three buttons selected all the time, and let the volume controls turn the speakers off or on as desired? Will it keep up with impedance matching doing this?

BEST ANSWER: Sorry, I have not installed. But u should not have any problem. I am replacing a much more expensive 6 speaker unit made by ADCOM. I can tell you that matching the speakers WITH DIFFERENT OHMS IS THE REASON I USE THIS. I HAVE 4 6 & 8 OHM ON MY SYSTEM AND THE VOLUME IS THE SAME ON ALL SPEAKERS.
SINCE THE SOURCE IS COMING FROM YOUR AMP/RECEIVER YOU ONLY HAVE THE ONE VOLUME FOR ALL..
I SELECT THE BUTTONS THAT I WANT THE MUSIC TO PLAY. IN MY SYSTEM I NORMALLY HAVE ALL 6 ZONES ON.
HOPE THIS ANSWERS YOUR CONCERNS.

Yes, you can run three sets of speakers through the switch box that is connected to your amp. There are no individual volume controls on the switch box. It does have a manual switch to control impedance or you can turn it off if you have matched speakers.

Yes you can. Just make sure to observe polarity. The volume controls will adjust the volume only. Not turn the sound on or off. If you turn the v/c’s down all the way you shouldn’t hear any sound though.

The currently have 3 pairs of speakers I will be controlling. 2 of those pairs are labeled as 8 ohm speakers and one of those pairs is labeled 6 ohm. Eventually I will be adding 3 more pairs of 8 ohm speakers. Will I be risking my amplifier by using those 6 ohm speakers if they are connected to and controlled by this selector?

Dave--in other words, are you saying that I cannot play music through the 6 ohm speakers at the same time as I am using one or more pairs of the 8 ohm speakers? So, the 6 ohm speakers can only be used alone?

Nothing in the instructions regarding how to turn the impedance matching protection on and off. I assume is the button labeled for one set of loud speakers. In what position is the the impedance matching protection on and in what position is it off?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your interest in this speaker selector. When the Single Pair Select button is out the impedance matching circuit is active. When you push the SPS button all outputs are still active but impedance matching is deactivated. Please use caution when using this mode. If you use more than 2 pairs of 8Ω speaker your total load will be below 4Ω and you can potentially do damage to your amplifier. Calculate your your total ohm load against minimum impedance of your amp.

Are the grounds just common? or can it be used with older amps that had internal transformer with individual speaker isolation. I find the common ground systems causes interference currents for the true isolated speaker outputs.

Can I use this system to change between 2 sets of surround sound systems using the same receiver? USE CASE: I want to have 2 different positions for a projector / screen that will be hooked up to a home theater system. My goal is to purchase 2 sets of surround sound speakers for the setup. When I change the position of the projector / screen, just push a button and I can use the same receiver but now have correct surround sound with the other set of speakers. The speakers are a 5.1 setup (2 front, 2 back, 1 center + sub). Please let me know if this unit will work for my intended use. Thx!

BEST ANSWER: Yes and No. Yes - You can connect the speaker cables for the surround speakers from the AV receiver to the Input terminal of the speaker selector. Then use two of the output channels to the two sets of surround speakers that you intend to use. No - To get proper surround effects, you need to use the microphone and the calibration software from the AV receiver at the two different listening positions for the two sets of surround speakers. The problem is that I have yet to find any AV receiver that can store more than one calibration parameter.

The unit is solid and works as it should except when the carrier breaks it in transit. Monoprice replaced it immediately even paying the return shipping. I can't ask more than that!

Great Switcher!
I use this to switch between two different sets of monitors. The price is super low, but the quality is super high! When i'm mixing or tracking i don't even have to think about this unit. That's a good thing! I just focus on the music and this unit allows me to do just that. ROCK!

Hunk of Junk
I can't tell you how well it might work because I never made it that far. I attempted to attach 4 sets of speakers. On the first set, all four clips popped out and their springs shot across the room. I found all the parts and attempted to reattach them. No dice. Tried on the next set and two of them shot across the room. Finally got one of three sets of speakers connected and tried to put the box into place and the wires came undone. Totally worthless. The box itself is metal and heavy. The switches felt beefy. However they used cheap crappy clips for the most important part resulting in failure.

Clips on back fall off rendering some channels useless
Looks nice. While hooking up wires, four of the inputs plastic clips on the back came off, so now it is a 4 channel unit, rather than 6. Fortunately I only needed 4 and the two others were for future additions. The 4 channels that I have seem to work, but I had to hook the wires in tenderly so as to not have the clips fall off into my hand. Not worth sending it back, however, what a POS.
