SO I get these as I just setup my unRaid server and needed SFF-8087 cables. I wish these came in other sizes as these are very long for my needs, could have used 0.5m instead. I now have cables that are not nice and neat. If monoprice was ro make other lengths available I would for sure order some.
Wish they made 90 degree bend version. Cables are great, well constructed, clip in nicely and stay in place.. but want shorter versions with 90 degree bends
@monoprice: could use these different lengths 6in - 12in (perfice for internal Host to expander cards that are next to each other) 12in - 18in (these would have been a better length for my needs)
Running in my Dell R710 with the H700 raid controller
So I own some Dell R710 servers, the 3.5" drive form factors, and separately purchased a h700 raid controller to put in it, only to find out what I got came with the shorter cables for the 2.5" form factor servers.
Bought two of these cables and they worked out great. The downside was that the lack of 90 degree bends at the connectors the dell cables have, I had to really put some scary bends on the cables and work them in so they could fit. The 1m length was a blessing, allowing me to run them the same way the real cables would have run with some excess tucked away. The server lid closes and life has been great since.
If I upgrade my other servers with H700 cards, I'll be ordering more of these cables, and maybe next time I see them on sale I may grab extras as emergency spares.
Very well constructed cables. It took some work, but managed to use them for upgrading the RAID card in my Dell R710 (3.5 inch chassis) from a Perc6 to an H700.
The cable itself worked fine, however in the server case I'm using it was far too long, I needed almost exactly half the size. It was a little stiff and hard to navigate mutlple cables through the small channels and holes in the case.
As with all Monoprice cables, the quality is superb, and the black mesh is a definite plus.
PROS: Build quality, aesthetics (that black mesh is a beauty), solid clip connection
CONS: Length (depending on application) This cable is 1m long, which is a beast if you actually only need 0.5m. I was able to make a loop out of the extra to help with my cable routing, but I really wish there was a shorter option available.
So I purchased two of these to use in my FreeNAS build connecting one IBM ServeRAID M1015 (highly recommended HBA flashed to a LSI P16 BIOS in either IT or IR mode) to a Supermicro SASX36 A.1 backplane. This fit the bill and then some! Thank you again, Monoprice. You saved the day. )
PROS: Well-built cable with quality SFF-8087 connections on both ends wrapped in a braided sheath. What more could you ask for?
CONS: - 1 meter might be longer than you think. (Almost 40 inches! This is longer than most SAS/SATA cables,)
- Therefore this might be a bit long for some cases if you lack the space to manage the slack. This was installed in a Supermicro 4U chassis with plenty of space inside, so no issues were had here.
I'm using 7 of these cables in 2 rigs and they work great. One of these rigs has been running for about 3 years now constantly and I've had no problems.
These work perfect for connecting 2 HD cages together and NOT having to pay the HP price plus these are longer and clip in better than the others. We have bought a few hundred of these and will continue using them. They also work great on SAS Expander cards
