Question about Automatic Switching:
If I have one input permanently connected to a device that is always on (AppleTV), can the switch automatically choose a different input when another device is connected and turned on? Or, will the AppleTV cause the switch to ignore other inputs and never switch automatically, requiring me to manually push the button to switch inputs?
I want to use this with a projector that has only a single HDMI input. The AppleTV and the switch would be mounted near the projector, facilitating AirPlay thru the AppleTV. But if I temporarily connect another HDMI source (like a laptop) directly using a cable, I would like the switch to automatically switch away from the AppleTV to the new device, without me having to reach up to the ceiling and push the button. Will this work?

BEST ANSWER: If one input is actively displaying something, then it will not switch when a second device is turned on. If there is nothing being actively displayed, the switch will automatically switch the input to the first device that attempts to display something.

You will have to switch manually. If the power was on simultaneously for all inputs it would not know what you wanted to watch.

Get a better switch. I changed to the Cable Matters 4k 3-port; much higher quality connectors, works reliably.

Can a Surface Pro 4 docking station use this device to share an extra monitor?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. This unit would be unable to split an HDMI signal. It would be an HDMI switch which would allow you connect multiple HDMI sources to one HDMI input on a display. You can use an HDMI splitter; however, it would only mirror the picture to the other monitor.

Will this to work with Dish Network? It will not pass the signal from my Dish Network receiver through to the TV. It does pass through the Blu-Ray player though, tried different cables.
