Only thing keeping me from buying this is lack of S-video input, so has Monoprice ever made anything like this that has a S-video input? Am aware of the S-video composite to HDMI converter, but want one box to plug composite, S-video, and component devices into for conversion to HDMI.

BEST ANSWER: Take a look at the Composite, S-Video, and HDMI® to HDMI® Converter and Switch w/ HDMI PAL NTSC Support, product #9994. Below taken from Monoprice ad.
The primary purpose of this converter is to take legacy Composite or S-Video input and convert it to HDMI for use on your newer HDTV. The converter accepts a low-resolution 480i legacy input and upscales it to a high-resolution 720p or 1080p HDMI digital signal.
The HDMI input allows the converter to perform upscaling on low-resolution HDMI signals, so you can view them at the full 720p/1080p resolution supported by your TV. The output can be switched from 720p to 1080p at the press of a button. Another small button on unit switches between the composite/s-video input and the HDMI input.
The converter is powered by a 5 VDC, 2A AC power adapter, which is included in the package. The AC adapter has a 46" long cord. The converter measures 5 1/16" x 3.5" x 1.0".

How would I connect a ps2 or wii to this? I would like to add both systems, but I only see one set of red/white/yellow sockets. Where would I connect the yellow plug?

Can you use a coaxial cable (with an OTA antenna signal) in the component input & The HDMI output will include both the video & audio from the OTA signal?
A shopper
on Jan 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You would need a tuner to extract a video signal from the RF signal coming in via the coax and antenna. The tuner could be a TV, VCR, or one of those digital converter boxes, but you're going to want to make sure it can tune ATSC so you can receive digital OTA channels, since they should all be digital now, at least in the U.S.

Saved me from buying a new receiver
I was shopping for a new receiver since I needed HDMI switching, then I realized that this device and my Logitech Harmony would suffice.
The Harmony knows all the IR codes and features for this device so that's all sorted and rolling--and I can put off a new receiver purchase for another generation or two.

Does not work
Does not work to switch component video to HDMI. SIgnal flashes the TV on and off repeatedly, then finally gives out and stops. Switching component to HDMI is the only reason i got this and that doesnt work.

defective 5 x 1 HDMI converter switch (8146)
does not work on my Blu Ray player at all , gives everything a heavy blue tint. People look like the blue man group. Hooked it up to my Samsung smart LED TV with cabling advised by monoprice (30' 22awg heavy gauge) and using monoprice 6' 24 AWG for the component hookups. Do not know if this is a defect inherent to this unit as other reviewers have mentioned "magenta" discolorations but will have to return everything if monoprice cannot solve my problem and I tried other HDMI cables and that did not help

Bought two (2) of these switch/converters but BOTH are not passing HDMI sources properly. I verified the input source. The output image has a magenta hue and is shifted off to the right. Gave up on them tonight, I'll give them another try tomorrow...

No Sound unless video signal is sent
I recently decided to replace and expensive stereo with an inexpensive sound bar, and adding this switch was art of that plan. This was a perfect drop-in replacement for the video switching part of my old HDMI capable receiver. The fact that this unit converts YPbPr and DVI to HDMI and combines the audio signals all on to one HDMI cable means I was able to send the switched signal way across the room above my fireplace, no problem.
Sadly, My old receiver had a connection that was not covered by this unit: a Record Player.
I could plug in a Raspberry Pi to just the "Y" channel of the component and get a signal to go across, but unless there was some sort of video signal, there was no way to send the sound across the HDMI. I will be asking for a return. This unit was much more expensive than the simple HDMI switchers offered elsewhere on this site, and I cannot justify the cost for myself in this case.
PROS: Simple
converts DVI or Component to HDMI
Cobmines analog or digital sound with picture seamlessly
IR extender helps get the IR receiver out of the cabinet
CONS: Sound is not carried without a video signal

Works well
I'd reccomend this unit to anyone. I'd've given it a 10 except for the issue where it seems to drop the signal every now and again.
PROS: great switch for the price. I like the multiple audio outs. I have an older receiver without hdmi inputs, so this unit switches between inputs, sends the audio to the reciever and the video to the tv. works like a charm
CONS: sometimes drops the signal - switching inputs and then switching back usually fixes the problem. Happens maybe once a month..

Excellent device but with a problem.
Excellent unit but unfortunately failed after 15 months and only has 12 month warranty.
PROS: This unit is the perfect solution to using new devices with older A/V systems. My entire A/V system is built around it. I have experienced very few problems except for the ones listed in cons section. The unit converts audio and video flawlessly and all audio outputs are active at the same time. It is exactly the type of device I was looking for.
CONS: I have 2 minor issues and one MAJOR issue. The first minor issue is that the unit will not switch inputs without cycling the power after the unit has been in use for a few hours. The second minor issue is that the red LEDs are WAY too bright on the front panel.
My major issue is this: the unit simply stopped working after 15 months, and it only has a 12 month warranty! It powers on, but will not switch inputs and outputs no audio or video. Extremely disappointing. I would expect a nearly $100 unit to last longer than this. To Monoprice: do you guys want to make this right by replacing the unit or at least giving me a great price on another one? I feel cheated. My review would have been 10/10 if the unit had not failed!
