BEST ANSWER: Yes, it is just a coupler. Keep in mind maximum usb cable lengths on both ends of the coupler.

This is just for a wall plate. You would need two usb cables to plug into the ends of this.

Is this truly a USB 3.0 coupler? Some reviews suggest otherwise.

BEST ANSWER: The blue interior is a 3.0 design standard. I installed them in my walls and extended a 50ft cord to my second floor. I connected my bluetooth USB dongle to it on the second floor and my Playstation 4 on the first floor recognized the device and works great.

Monoprice Keystone Jack - USB 3.0 A Female to A Female Coupler Adapter, Flush Type (White)
Monoprice Select USB 3.0 USB-A to USB-A Cable 6ft Black
BEST ANSWER: Theoretically, yes. First, make sure that cable is CL in-wall rated. You'll also want to be sure that the wall boxes you're installing the plates onto are deep enough to accommodate the length of both the keystone and the USB cable boots. If you don't have enough depth in the boxes a 90° USB connector placed on the keystone can help.

Not a USB 3.0 connection.
I went back and forth with various A-A cables, USB 3.0 media, troubleshooting only to find that, like others, these jacks do not pass USB 3.0 on to what you plug in the front of this Keystone.
I wanted USB 3.0 media speeds from a computer buried in a rack of gear. A USB 2.0 stick plugged into these Keystones works fine. A USB 3.0 stick doesn't even show up on the computer.
Sure, it works fine for power, and USB 2.0 speeds/connection. But that's not what the blue tongue color and USB 3.0 specification mean. If it doesn't pass USB 3.0 speeds, from one side to the other, then don't call it a USB 3.0 Keystone.

Mono Price Keystone Jack USB 3
This jack did not work for USB 3. It did work however for USB 2.
I also tried other similar low cost USB 3 jacks on the internet and they did not work for USB 3 either.
The only jack I got to work on my computer was the Shaxon USB 3 Keystone Insert. Cost was $15 each but they work and give a great USB 3 and USB 2 experience. Perhaps the cheaper jacks work on other computers but did not work on mine.

Works but no USB3 cable available from monoprice
Works great for extending USB connections from back of PC to a patch panel. I am able to now run my USB Bluray, charging cables, etc from the PCs mounted in my 37U rack system without having to find the connections on the back of the PCs.
PROS: USB3 speeds now capable if the cables were available.
CONS: Monoprice doesn't carry any USB 3.0 cables with Male A to Male A connections so had to use their USB2.0 cables.

Please update description
Please note that this product is not compatible with USB 3.0 Standard-A to USB 3.0 Standard-A Cables, which is what I had wanted to use. I bought this to run a A-A (male to male) USB cable from the PC to the back of the keystone jack, which is in a patch panel on my desk surface, and it does not work. This is because the A-A cables, as defined by the USB spec, swap the two extra pairs - kind of like how the old Ethernet crossover cables worked, and are only to be used for host-host connections between two PCs.
The only way that this keystone jack could be used is if you paired it with a USB 3.0 B-B keystone jack, which monoprice doesn't sell. You could probably also use two of these A-A jacks with two A-A cables, which would then switch the pairs back and that would probably work.
What should really be made available is a USB 3.0 B-A keystone, with B on the back, so we can just use a standard A-B cable to the PC.
Anyways - Monoprice: can you add some of this info to the description? Most people don't read the USB spec so they wouldn't know why it doesn't work.

Works better than other similar jack
After reading reviews I've decided to buy USB 3.0 wall connector elsewhere. That was a waste of money since "the other" connector simply didn't work, it couldn't even hold the USB cable in place, the cable would disconnect on it own weight. I've chatted with Monoprice customer support and purchased this jack.
I have to say, some of negative reviews still hold their ground, the connector is still too loose allowing some wobbling of the cable. Which puzzles me, I have maybe total of 10 USB ports on my desktop computer, from different vendors and none of them is loose. What is the problem with these wall jacks so every single one of them isn't tight enough?
On the positive site, the connector works. Still, being a better alternative doesn't mean it has no room for improvement.
PROS: It works, unlike other similar product
CONS: The connector is still too loose.

Junk Connectors
Don't work as USB3.0. Tried 6 different cables from 2 different manufacturers on the 'wall side' of the jack, and connected to 3 different usb3.0 hubs, usb3.0 external drive, and a usb mouse., used 3x different USB3.0 ports on the PC and 3 diff USB2.0 ports on PC.
Upon occasion i could get connectivity from my USB3.0 ports on my PC to my devices via these jacks, but only if i twisted, pushed, flexed the cables going into them. I am stuck using usb2.0 ports for now. what a waste of time and money. I will RMA these once i order more. i cant use my PC without them, however i doubt my results will be any better.
PROS: They look nice, work in my wall plates, and function ok as USB2.0 jacks.
CONS: Dont work as USB3.0. Same issue on the 5 jacks i bought.

Bought 3, 0 worked
Here's my scenario. I have 3 of these to connect 2 active USB 3 extension cables. If I use these jacks, which are essentially couplers, it doesn't work. If I use another extension cable everything works fine. But these couplers don't work at all. Tried 2 computers, built in and PCIe ports, USB2, USB3... nothing. Very cheap, very thin extension cable works fine but isn't a pretty jack on the wall.
PROS: I can touch it
It is real
CONS: Very big and very difficult to get into a keystone jack
Does not transmit data (USB2 or 3)
No really, they don't work
