Will this extend two Ethernet cables together?
Mark H
on Dec 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes it will.
It will also do phone cables, etc. that can snap in correctly.
I recommend keeping any pressure/pulling off of the cables though.
and don't step on them with boots :)

Yes I have used it to connect two cat5e cables for a longer cable. The lights on my router show the 1000mb connection was still maintained with the connector.

will this pass PoE?

BEST ANSWER: Yes, it passes POE. I use them all the time on POE circuits. These are just eight independent conductor strips, no logic.

I have only used it as a lan cable extender and worked perfect for that. I can't say otherwise.

Does this support cat6a?
New User U
on May 15, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I believe they will. The Cat5e/6a limits are normally on the network interface cards. The physical differences in the wiring are in the amount of twists per centimeter/inch. These should translate the network cards and wires limits for the pairs plugged into them.

Why don't the specs say what category this coupler is? 5e or 6?
A shopper

When I look at the member pricing, i see an assortment of prices that lower depending on membership, my question is the VIP shows if yoiu buy 50+, that is the lowest price. So if I order 50+ of these do I get the VIP price? Or do I still pay the {Bronze price} as that is checked currently for each coupler? Just trying to figure out how the differing memberships are attained and qualified for the lower pricing.

Perfect solution
All I had were ethernet cables, either too long or too short. Not wanting to buy or make new cables, using these connectors and shorter cables was the solution.

Monoprice 8P8C RJ45 Straight Inline Coupler, Beige
I purchased 60 of these to use with my specialized lighting controllers for the holidays. Every yea, I'd have to unscrew a controller lid to access the cat5 cable jacks to install the cat5 cables that would then run to another controller in daisy-chain fashion.
There has to be a better way, because I couldn't pre-install the cat5 cabling for data transmission until I placed the controller and mounted it. Then I'd know how long the cat5 cable needed to be to get to the next controller, and so forth, until all of my controllers were interconnected.
Well with dozens of controllers, and each having two cat5 jacks, and each lid requiring the removal and reinstallation of 8 screws was a real pain in the backside, especially if having to do this on a ladder!
So then I remembered, Monoprice may have just the item I need, they sure did, the Monoprice 8P8C RJ45 Straight Inline Coupler, in Beige would be just what I needed, along with a few 1' cat5 cables to have the cat5 cane come from inside the controller box and the other end outside where I could use 2 couplers, since each controller has two cat5 jacks for data flow.
After opening every single package, yes, all 60, individually packed, I tested all the short cat5 cables and all 60 couplers, to be sure they were good., they all tested 100% using a cat5 cable tester, Cat5 Tester ? 1' cat5 ? coupler ?1'cat 5 ? back to Cat5 tester.
So I completed the modification of all my controller boxes using two 1' cat 5 cables in green to match the controller boxes and 1 coupler per cat5 exiting the controller box.
These are being used outside and so far have held up to our usual Florida Thunder and rainstorms. They haven't wavered in the least, I know they may not be outside rated, but I've had about 10 of these outdoors now since I received them, as a few of these control exterior year-round lighting in my yard and handicap ramp.
Even in the harshest and hardest, windy rainstorms, these have kept working.
It may not be exactly what these couplers were designed for, but they're working out so far 100%, the lights have stayed on in the most adverse weather we get.
Why did I buy a lot more than I actually needed? As I was taught many years ago, always have more than you need, that way if one goes bad or something happens that it no longer works, you have plenty of spares to keep things working!
Yes, I'd highly recommend these couplers.
They are sure going to save me a ton of time during my Christmas Display and other holiday lighting times, because now, my controllers are plug and go, which will be a great time-saver in both set-up and tear down.
Thank you Monoprice!
Would have loved to post a photo of how these look in my current setting, but unfortunately I don't own a camera or video-recorder.
