Do I just cut the old one off and then push the wire into the new one or do I have to strip the wire ???

BEST ANSWER: You do not need to strip the individual colored wires, but you need to remove/strip a short length of the outer insulation to expose the four colored wires. Pay careful attention to the orientation of the colored wires in your existing jack and re-insert them in the same orientation. Do not flip the cable or the jack over and insert the wires backwards, so to speak. You do have the proper tool to push the copper pieces into the colored wires???

You will need to strip he wire off the end about a 1/4 of an inch, then insert and crimp with your tool.

Cut, then push. Use the proper crimping tool and the contacts will break through the jacket.

BEST ANSWER: Yes they are for stranded wire, all the flat wires use stranded conductors. You can use it con solid wires too with out problems, what is not recommended es use the solid wire connector on stranded conductor wire.

According to the product title, they are for stranded wire. But I suspect they will work ok for solid wire too. But be aware that solid wire always breaks sooner rather than later when it can be bumped or flexed...

Exactly what i needed
what can i say. Its a package of RJ11's. I'ved used them to shorten a few excessively long wire runs. to clean up my office.
PROS: They work
so inexpensive, its worth waiting a few days for them Vs going to local store.
CONS: more than I will use in a lifetime. oh well i can help out a friend one day.

Works great!
After learning to do rj45 connectors, RJ11's were so easy that I got excited and went around the house custom fitting telephone patch cables everywhere. It helped that Monoprice sells these at such a great price.

PROS: The items shipped on time, arrived packaged & ready to ship (we are a Resale Corporation). The labels that were ore-pasted were easily removed so we could attach our own labels. The items were competitively priced.
