I'd never crimped with inserts before and found these jacks super-frustrating to start with. Wires kept shifting and coming loose, and I couldn't get a good crimp. I'm glad I checked back on the website and noticed the instructions. I hadn't even seen the inserts in the bag! Once I followed directions (go figure), things were far simpler and reliable.
Q&A that said you could use this interchangeably. You can not. Compared to the Cat5e plugs from local hardware store, these have no ridges inside the plug to keep the eight wires in right order as you slide in. Extremely frustrating to get a crimp. Checked and the entire package of 100 is like this so not just one or two bad plugs. Totally useless and not functional. Avoid
I don't know how you would ever be able to do your own Cat 6 plugs without inserts. The inserts made every connection easy and perfect. Don't even try terminating your own Cat6 cables unless you use RJ45s with inserts!
Used these for my cat 6 cables and they worked well. It took me several tries to get it right. At first I didn't realize there are 2 pieces for each connector. It's next to impossible to do it right without the small plastic insert. After discovering those, it took me a few more tries, but I finally got it.
