The Cat6 plugs I have used in the past have the inserts but only to assist with wire alignment because the plug itself offsets the incoming wires rather than Cat5/5e where the incoming wires are all next to each other. I cannot tell from the picture, are the holes for the incoming wires (in the plug) offset or adjacent to each other?
A shopper
on Jan 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The insert does offset the wires and is fully seated to the bottom of the plug, you have a raised point on the insert and you place it up when inserting the wires, the solid wire will come out of the top holes and the white/stripe wires out of the bottom. Trim the wires as close as you can get them and fully seat the insert into the plug. I almost always hear a nice click when fully seated. Then crimp. If your CAT6 has the spline try to pull a half inch out of the jacket. it helps with plug seating on the cable.

The holes on this plug are offset and therefore the wires don’t go through the holes in a straight line.

The Cat6 plugs that use the guide/bridge have offset pins so that when the connector is crimped four of the pins are driven deeper that the other four pins. That is why these connectors will not work without the bridge as the bridge is part of the whole connector when assembled.

are these connectors good for cat6 600 volt cable ??
A shopper
on Oct 26, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Short answer: No, at least if you're using the cable in the full capacity it was designed for. The cable you mentioned includes a shield around the pairs, and designed for more 'extreme' conditions. While you might get the connectors to work (some 600v cables have thicker pairs that wouldn't physically fit), it would be best recommended to use the connectors that are designed to work for the application the cable was designed for.

This a standard Ethernet plug for Cat 6 cable. I believe that your real question should be whether your network provider has you subscribed for the capability to receive/transmit a specific speed for a particular purpose, i.e., 1Gigabit being prominent right now. A Cat 6 cable (with matching plug) is just a cable that can manage sending/receiving in a certain speed range. This post will not let me include a link, so you will have to research “How to choose an Ethernet cable” for more information. This should help.

BEST ANSWER: Not really. The opening is slightly too small and the cable jacket needs to be stripped past the depth of the plug. It should go in past the opening so the plug grips the cable jacket. are the network cable plugs 8p8c rj45 made for wire to pass through and then trim of the excess?
KURT D
on Nov 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: These plugs come with a separate "collar" piece that you slide the cables into, then trim off the ends that are sticking out the front end of the collar. Then you push the cable with the collar on the end of it into this plug and crimp it down. the collar keeps the wires aligned for crimping.

I have Cat6 solid cable and I purchased the Cat6 stranded plug, will I have any difficulties or am I good?
Jacob B
on Aug 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You should not use Stranded RJ-45 plugs with solid cable. The Stranded plugs have two spikes that are designed to penetrate the center of the cable and go between the strands. The correct RJ-45 plug for solid cable has 2 x spikes on one side, and 1 x spike on the other side, and goes around/cradles a solid cable. Using Stranded RJ-45 plugs on a solid cable will eventual fail. You've been warned - you will have trouble sometime down the road!

What is the difference between solid and stranded? Can i use these on both ends of the cable
A shopper
on Apr 10, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The difference is that a solid cable uses one solid wire per conductor, while a stranded cable uses multiple wires wrapped around each other per conductor. So the pin that pinches the wire when you clamp it down that's the one defines the case. The solid RJ45 pins pinches the wire from both sides. Like placing an upside down "Y" over the round object. However strands will be like poking a toothpick on laddie's /man ponytail.
So if you know what type of cable you have, then by now you should know what type of RJ45 you should use.

Has anyone had trouble with this connector shorting out? I’ve found them very easy to use with the monoprice cat6 cable that is solid copper. I’ve had a handful test out on my cable tester as being shorted on the 7-8 pins (B style wiring, brown and brown-white). It’s been this specific problem each time and I’m wondering what is causing this issue. I’m crimping them with monoprice’s crimper too.

I bought this connector, and I had 0 success to terminate the 23AWG cable I bought in same order, https://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=301&cp_id=10234&cs_id=3010302&p_id=13563&seq=1&format=2 . Pin1 always failed. And it seems that the holes in loadbar is very hard to use also.
Can someone recommend a connector (preferably shielded version) working for the cable? https://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=301&cp_id=10234&cs_id=3010302&p_id=13563&seq=1&format=2
Thanks!

What is the thickness of the gold plating?

Is there a special trick or method to getting 23 AWG CAT6 wires loaded into the insert? Sure, I can single out one wire and pull it through but even one wire is tight. Getting all eight wires loaded and pulled through is a nightmare. I'm thinking this product is not truly designed for 23 AWG wire.

Do these plugs allow pull through of the 4 pair wires? Ie: Are there holes near the pins for the strangs to be pulled / adjusted for a snug fit or do they have to be precut and presized before inserting into the plug?

Plugging In Style, But Not Without a Twist
Just tried out the Monoprice Cat6 RJ45 Modular Plugs, and they're a solid choice for cable DIY enthusiasts. The 100-pack ensures you're covered for various projects. The clear design adds a touch of transparency, making troubleshooting a breeze. However, the twist comes in when dealing with thicker cables - the plugs can be a bit finicky to secure on round solid/stranded cables. If your cables are on the thicker side, a bit of patience might be in order. Overall, a handy pack with a minor challenge for the bulkier cables in the mix.

So-So
These things work pretty good but they are cheap things not up to the quality of their cables that I usually buy. Perhaps I should have looked harder and searched for a higher level product but I was so excited to finish my purchase and this was the last item to add that I did not use my normal diligence.
But these things only cost a few pennies each and they work well. I just worry about the long run use - will these survive being knocked around and plugged and unplugged over and over? I shall see.

I Love These!
Network tech here. I've used several different RJ45 cable plug types before but these are my favorite. I read comments that it won't accept 23awg Cat 6 but I have no problem whatsoever with solid core 23 and 24awg cable. It's so nice how far you can get the jacket up into the connector.
Only downside is it being a two piece system so don't lose the inner load bar, they are tiny but in their own bag.

Works great
I used these to make bespoke Cat6 cables. The conductors are 23AWG and I had no issues getting them in the guide. You have to straighten the conductors for a good fit. I used jewelry pliers to get nice straight lines. You can't just try to jam in the untwisted pairs, which I imagine is what the people who complain about the fit are doing. I was nervous to order this because I wasn't sure, but it's really that simple. Straighten the conductors and insert into the guide. Crimp and done!

Cat 6 Solid doesnt fit
Do not buy these for Cat 6 Solid. The individual strands of wire barely fit inside the insert. It takes 30 min just to do one connector and you are spending lots of time to get the wires to fit. Many times it ends up pulling the sheath back and you have to start over.
Don't ignore the other reviews like I did that say the same thing.

Decently priced but you might want to get these somewhere else
They don?t like to stay in the plugs very well. Sometimes they are fine depending on the port.
Creating is fine but they could be better.

Doesn?t fit premium cable
This does not fit solid Cat6 cable. It is virtually impossible to fit it through the collar. It might work with cheaper cat6 cable, but when pairing with better cable, it won?t fit. Wasted money and product is going in the trash. Too bad, I generally like monoprice?s products.

Nearly impossible for 23 AWG Cat 6
I really hope someone can set me straight here but in my experience, these are worthless for 23 AWG Cat 6 cable. The inserts just barely allow for the wires to slide in. When finally getting all 8 wires inserted, it is near impossible to slide the insert down to the cable jacket. These plugs work well with Cat 5e that I have but who needs the insert for Cat 5 anyway? I gave the product 3 stars instead of 1 only because there's a chance I'm simply doing something wrong. I do have a lot of experience terminating Cat 5/5e but am just learning with Cat 6.
