The Monoprice HDMI keystone would not pass 4k for me. I tested 2 x HDMI with an Apple TV plugged directly into a 4k tv to verify they worked at 4k@60 + Dolby Vision.
When I inserted a keystone hdmi between them, Apple TV failed to maintain connection
Best recommendation is to connect source to TV with no breaks.

While I used an On-Q Cat-6-RJ-45 Keystone plug. (and it works), there is no reason to doubt that your choice will work also. I recommend trying it out - that is - connecting all the cables as they will be when the cable is in the wall. Remember it is a directional cable, with one end labelled source, the other display.

As of today 20 people want an answer to this. I'm trying to decide between HDBaseT that will work with CAT6 keystone jacks but doesn't support 18Gb. I can't believe people running 100' cables don't have patch panels on either side. Running through a ceiling and then out a brush strip is less than ideal.

BEST ANSWER: Here's what I tried first:
Xbox One X --> Ultra Slim Certified Premium HDMI Cable (24186) --> Yamaha 4K Receiver --> Ultra Slim Certified Premium HDMI Cable (24186) --> HDMI Keystone Jack (6582) --> Slim Run HDR High Speed Fiber Optic HDMI Cable (21567) --> HDMI Keystone Jack (6582) --> Ultra Slim Certified Premium HDMI Cable (24186) --> LG OLED 4K HDR TV
However, no TV, Receiver or Xbox setting I tried would allow the tv to broadcast the 4k HDR from the Xbox, not even removing the Yamaha receiver from the run. Yet, when I removed both Keystone Jacks and ran the Slim Run HDR High Speed Fiber Optic HDMI Cable (21567) direct from the Yamaha Receiver to the LG OLED TV, the broadcast would then be in 4K HDR.
So, in my setup, these keystone jacks would not allow the pass through of 4K and HDR. Yet, I did not exhaust all setup scenarios and am by no means a professional. What I would definitely recommend first and foremost from experience, is to test everything possible while it's sitting on your floor and before running any cables through walls and hanging tvs, etc.

I would recommend using a HDbaseT kit and throw the video signal from the source over Ethernet to the far end. It is a better way of running HDMI long distances, it also gives you some future proofing where if the hdmi std changes you just have to change the kit out rather then running a new cable.

I have done this with a similar monoprice optical cable and a cheap 3ft passive cable, and was able to do 4k@60 without issue. As long as the short cable connects pin 18 through from one end to the other, which it should, it will work.

I think it depends on which end of the cable one extends. Active HDMI cables are powered by the sink (display, projector, etc.) so if the extension is at the source it should be okay. Would LOVE to have a definitive answer on this.

I'm designing my game room for my house, and I was hoping to run this 6 ft premium HDMI into a Keystone HDMI coupler which connects to a 20-25ft version of this cable in the wall, through my tv mount and directly into my tv. Will this cable suffice for such a task (both 6ft and 20-25ft) providing 4k 60Hz HDR features still, or will I get a degraded signal going 26-31ft total with this cable (also through a coupler too if that matters)?

I made an install with 2 25' hdmi cables and this wall coupler. No problems at 1080p but not tested at 4K. Check your 2 cable with coupler before put cable in the wall.
Thanks.

As long as you are using VERY good cables, this total length should probably be able to give you 4K.. The coupler also needs to be high end as well. Good Luck

I’m also having the same problem with Dolby Vision at 4k60 with an Apple TV and these keystone ports. When I try to re-seat the cable in the port, I can make the signal better or worse, but it’s never stable for more than a few seconds. I have four of these installed with the same type/length of Monoprice certified HDMI cable running to my TV behind the wall and the behavior is different with all of them. Some don’t even work at 4k6 HDR 4:2:2.

Ever since adding these to our setup, the PS5 has been flickering on our Sony Bravia. We're using the 8k in-wall rated cables in the walls, with these keystones in the cabinet wall plate where the console is, and in the wall plate behind the TV. Are these causing the problem?
Jack S
on May 16, 2024
BEST ANSWER: These are simply providing an electrical connection between the cables, so they don't have any electronics that would cause compatibility issues. That said, an 8k connection is pushing a lot more data, and these may simply introduce too much noise.
A few things I would suggest to get a better idea of the problem:
1) If you can tell the PS5 to output a 4k signal, do that and see if the flicker goes away. That doesn't tell us *where* the problem is, but tells us that it only happens with 8k.
2) Since you probably don't want to pull the cables out of the wall, I would grab another cable and try a direct connection between the PS5 and the TV at 8k. If that's good, unscrew the wall plates and use that cable between the jacks. If the flicker returns, then you know the issue has to be the jacks or the cables from the devices to the wall.
Eaton has keystone couplers under their Tripp-Lite brand that are specified as 8k compatible at 60Hz that look to be around $12 each, so those may be an option for you.

You presumably have three cables in the circuit (PS5 to a keystone, keystone-to-keystone via in-wall cable, and keystone to monitor. Any of those components can have a problem, most likely at a connector. The PS5's native resolution is 1440p, so there's no point running it higher than that. Does it work any better if you lower the PS5's resolution?

Will this work with a 50 foot RedMere HDMI cable in the wall connected directly to my monitor and an ordinary 10 foot HDMI cable from the transmitter to the wall? Specifically, the cable in the wall is Monoprice 9172, "Select Active Series High Speed HDMI® Cable with RedMere® Technology, 50ft". Some here have said it won't work with some lengths of RedMere cable but will work with others, and it's not clear whether they might have been trying to use two RedMere cables. Also, using this configuration, would you expect that it does or does not work with 3D or 4K? Is there some special 10 foot HDMI cable I should use to improve the chances of this working? If this won't work, is there another HDMI pass through product that will?

BEST ANSWER: Yes it does. I have two of these installed in my house. One for the upstairs and one for the living room. Both TVs are running eARC to separate surround sound systems.

Dumb question but to be safe: I need to extend 2 cables (Monoprice Luxe Series Active High Speed HDMI Cable - 4K @ 60Hz, 18Gbps, 24AWG, YUV 4:2:0, CL3, 50ft, Gray) to be ran in-wall. Can I use this Keystone to do it? Thanks

Most HDMI keystones that I have found are larger than network keystones. Will this fit in a standard keystone wallplate?

I have a PS5 and I'm wondering if I could get a full HDMI 2.1 signal (4K 120) by using just one of these adapters? My setup would be TV > Monoprice 8K CL2-rated cable in 6 or 10 feet (# 42674) > HDMI Keystone > Monoprice 8K Slim HDMI (# 39477) > PS5.
I've heard a lot of people are having issues with two keystones but it's a toss up with the one.

8K Issues
These couplers seem to be hit or miss when working with 8K cables. I have one that works mostly flawless with my main entertainment center. But the ones for my gaming room, do not. If you enable 120hz (w/4k), it has a serious problem (only while playing games so far) of blacking out the screen with or without audio, and comes back for a brief second before blacking again. I am playing games on an Xbox Series X with a Sony XBR-X900H TV.

HDMI coupler
I waited years for this product to become available. Easily plugs two HDMI cables together for a longer run.

Don't use with 8K HDMI cables
I tried this with the MonoPrice 8K cable In Wall rated. It didn't work. One Keystone worked but when I added a second keystone for the connection, it failed. I found another company that makes 8K HDMI keystones. Worked flawlessly.
