Does each spkr need to be plugged into the wall, or does one connect to the other? thx

BEST ANSWER: Each speaker needs power and a sound signal.
If doing mono, a "Y" can be used on the sound signal to "daisy-chain" speakers. I would limit the "daisy-chain" to 4 or 5 speakers and a total length of 100' of signal wire. If more is needed, the signal may need to have a booster. I know of a 6-way splinter from Sweetwater (1 in, 6 out - XLR) which I have used on different projects.

Each monitor needs to be plugged into an AC power outlet. Also, each monitor requires a connection to a source (such as an audio interface) through either an XLR cable or a TS or TRS quarter-inch cable.

I've owned several pairs of nearfield studio monitors and they have all sounded harsh and awful when I used them to play prerecorded music - CDs, Mp3... I'd like to buy pair of these for my son and am wondering - those of you who use these for prerecorded music, how do they sound to you? Would my son be better off with a pair of powered bookshelf speakers like the Monolith MM5? At $210/pr, these are so tempting but i don't want to buy them if they sound bad. Thanks.

BEST ANSWER: These speakers are intended for use in a studio. They need to be calibrated/tuned to the space to get the truest sound, and are by design not forgiving of flaws in the source material. For everyday listening, get the bookshelf speakers. That said, I used professionally released music known to be high quality to help set up the monitors to get the most accurate mixes of my material. I found that facing the speakers straight ahead, rather than directly at the listening spot, helped with "harshness", and I now have the monitors set up to get fantastic results after a lot of experimentation. By the way, these speakers are big.

I've had these speakers for about 6 months and I love them. I listen to everything on them. I added a sub to the pair which was a pain, because they don't have a sub out on them. They sound good with it a sub, but they are great with the sub. So if your son is into a lot of bass I would look at another option, or figure out how to get them to work with a sub.

I bought these for my adult son for Christmas. So far he loves how they sound on all music. Pre recorded and studio type usage. From checking them out as well. They seem very balanced and actually not as harsh as some bookshelf speakers I've heard. They are flat EQd so represent the actual music as intended very well.

Stage Right by Monoprice SV28 8in Bi-amplified Powered Studio Monitor Speakers with 150W Class AB Amp and 1in Silk Dome (pair)

Monoprice Adjustable 33 lb. Capacity Speaker Wall Mount Brackets (Pair), Black
BEST ANSWER: First thing I would want to know is the weight of these speakers. Powered speakers are heavier than a traditional speaker. Second item before you mount the bracket to the speaker itself, I would take the screws out of the back to make sure that you don’t hit any of the internal components. Would it work? Probably but you might want to look at a sturdier mount just because of the weight.

Not exactly. Those mounts are meant for rear mounting to threaded holes these speakers don't appear to have. Futhermore, because they're active, there's a PCB under that rear plate I'd be concerned about hitting if you tried making your own. You could mount from underneath, but it's probably better to use a platform-type mount system

I have a pair of the previous model Monoprice 8" monitors and have been wanting to replace them with these but would like to check on the dimensions. The height is 13 13/16 not including the pads on the bottom, which would add another 1/8". I've had these speakers for about 6 months and have them mated with Monoprice sub and they rock!

Why do the specs list 35Hz as the lowest frequency, but the lowest low cut setting on the back is 50hz?
A shopper
on Sep 8, 2020
BEST ANSWER: A low cut attenuates frequencies BELOW the chosen value. If you're wondering why there isn't a low cut position of 35Hz, it's because then there is nothing for that low cut to do—it's not reproducing anything under 35Hz.

According to the manual, this unit has a high-pass filter switch on the back. You can select the corner frequency but you can not disable the filter. The lowest selectable corner frequency is stated as 50hz, yet the frequency response is stated as 35hz to 20khz. With a corner frequency of 50hz, these speakers will not be able to reproduce 35hz. What gives?
-- I see a simpler version of this question asked and answered, but the answer is invalid: the filter cuts the electrical signal below 50hz. Even if (and especially if) the speaker can not reproduce frequencies below 50hz, a 50hz high-pass filter would be relevant, because excessive frequencies below that point would still cause cone motion and could harm the speakers or, at very least, cause inter-modulation distortion.
So, again, we know that the high-pass filter corner frequency electrically defines the effective "F3" of the speaker. Why does the filter indicate 50hz when the (presumably) --3db point is stated as 35hz?

BEST ANSWER: No electrical filter is perfectly sharp. I am fairly certain that these have a 1st-order high-pass response, meaning if the corner frequency (the –3dB point) is 50 Hz, the –6 dB point is 25 Hz, so there is still plenty of signal at 35 Hz. If the mechanical –3 dB point is 35 Hz, you probably still have around –6 dB of acoustic response with the combination of the high-pass and the mechanical filters at 35 Hz.

Great with my Fractal!
I specifically bought these to run with my new Fractal FM amp modeler, replacing a smaller pair of powered studio monitors that gave up the ghost. Don't have loads of time with them, but what I've heard I like: plenty of volume and bass (I may add the subwoofer, but mainly for running my Roland drums through them), a neutral sound that doesn't seem to color the Fractal's output, and a package size I like-not to big, not too small. I run them on either side of a basement stage setup, and I wanted something that would be like a small PA speaker, and these fit the bill.

Build issue; could use more gain; sound is good
I had a mixed experience with these speakers. Ultimately with some TLC, I have them working well. First, one of the speakers had screws rattling around inside. I removed the plate-amp and found two screws that were completely loose inside. Screwed them in and tightened the others and all was ok. (These hold the front panel and IMO, weren't torqued sufficiently.) On my drum kit, the speaker sounded very good, but the level was too low. I ordered a line amp (+12dB) and now the level is adequate. The sound seems very accurate.

Excellent monitors, excellent value.
I am very happy with these monitors. They don't make extra noise, as some have complained. The response seems Very flat, which is exactly what I need. My old monitors colored the sound (old vintage Advent small speakers with sub). The monoprice have plenty of power, and a more accurate reproduction. As a bonus, they cost about half of what a comperable monitor would cost from KRK.

Great home studio monitors!
For the money these are great home studio monitors. Go to a pro studio for your mix down and mastering on $2000 + speakers but for basic tracking these are perfect. And get the floor stands for them.

Great value, recommend
Great value. I'm using them as PA speakers for home concerts, kind of an unusual application I know, but I don't like the color most PA speakers in this range add. I like them better than the KRK RokKIt 8s I had. Haven't done too much testing yet, but they seem pretty well balanced.

Nice
I wasn't sure what to expect from these speakers, but I had been surprised by Monoprice on a guitar amp and cab, so I gave these speakers a shot. Wow they sound really good with what ever I throw at them. I got these to do some personal mixing and they work great. They are nice with anything. I also added a sub to go with them. Not saying the bass is bad on the speakers, but I needed more than these speakers could do.

Great Reference Monitors
I was able to get them on sale during Black Friday. I thought maybe they would be too big for my space. I'm so glad I kept them! Great for mixing, and I now use them with my guitar modeler, the Quad Cortex.

Our studio had a facility full of Adams and we sold them to get these
In our studio, we've had monitors from all brands - Adam, Neumann, Focal, PMC, ATC, you name it. But absolutely nothing compares to these from Monoprice. We keep a pair of Neumanns in the main room where we see clients just to impress them, but everything we churn out for recording and mastering is using these SV28s here. They're peerless in the industry.

Great for home studios
You won't find anything else in this price range that's as well constructed and clear sounding as these speakers unless you happen upon a good used deal somewhere else.
Pay attention to the listed dimensions in the specs as they are large. As per usual, pleasantly surprised at how Monoprice consistently delivers quality products at a better price point.
