The graphic (also known as a "cartoid") above the LC100 mike's label means the mike is a cartoid mike, and this graphic shows the soundfield the front of the mike captures. The flat part of the graphic with the ^ in the middle is the back of the mike and the mike is designed to not capture any sound. The front of the mike captures the sound inside the envelope defined by the graphic.

The side with the pattern icon and the "LC100" label is the front. Also, if you look through the grill at the microphone's round pickup, the back has the two wires going into it -- the front side is the opposite, which does not have the wires.

Like most cardioid condenser microphones, the front of the diaphragm is indicated by the small upside-down-heart-shaped “cardioid” symbol. That’s the side you should speak into.

The mic has a small symbol of the cardioid pattern. It’s above the model number. That’s the front of the mic.

Does this mic come with a shock mount? I'm thinking no but thought I'd ask.

I hope this isn’t a dumb question, but, does the side or top of the microphone receive the sound? In terms of the cardioid polar pattern, what is considered the "front" and "rear" of the microphone?

BEST ANSWER: The "front" of the mic is the side with the imprinting of the "LC100" logo and cardioid emblem. Your target area to be sung or played into is the diaphram behind the blackwire mesh just above that cardioid emblem.

What I found was based on the pattern selection dial, the orienting based on the "SR" logo near the bottom of the mic performed well as the "front".

Side. That little upside-down heart painted on the microphone indicates peak direction. It is actually a graph of a cardioid pattern.

I am now working from home and conducting a lot of video conference meetings....I have heard that a quality mic is much improved over the "built in the laptop" microphones....would this be suitable?...and if not, which would be reccommended? (USB connectivity?) Thank you.

BEST ANSWER: In general, yes, this mic and mics of its class, will be a huge improvement over the built-in mic in your laptop. As long as you also wear headphones to keep the feedback level down as well. This mic in specific requires an audio interface with XLR connectors and phantom power support. If you don't already have one of these (since you're asking about USB connectivity you probably don't) than this mic in specific is not for you.

This is a really good mic. However it doesn't have USB. You would need an interface to get it into your computer. If just for video conferencing, I think Monoprice has some usb mics...

While this mic has superb quality, this is not a USB microphone. I would suggest PID 600202. USB connection and good enough quality for conference calls. Also much cheaper.

If you are looking for a "plug and play" USB type mic, this is not that. This mic will require an interface to plug an XLR cable into.

Will this microphone work seamlessly with Mac USB or standard mic inputs, impedance-wise? If so, what Monoprice adapters might be needed?

Best deal for the money.
So far all good, purchased for my wife and she likes it a lot. If she didn't like it I would hear it and I appreciate that! The hardest part of the deal is not letting her know how much it costs. Purchased it on sale for a good price and we both agree that it sounds so much better than her Amazon no name.

Great Mic per the price, small self noise but very clear reproduction
I'm just getting around to writing about the LC100 mic because
I've been too busy to use it until today.
But I found it to be very pleasing in the detail of clarity in all ranges low, mid, and high. There is a small amount of self noise but it's negligible, and no more than Mike's costing 5 times as much.
I'm impressed with the quality for the price, and I will be trying the more higher level mics from Monoprice as well as your studio
monitors, I heard a pair and now they are on my to buy list also.

Great mic with one easily fixed flaw
I got a pair of these on sale, but even for the regular price it's a great mic. Except for the hum. In my studio, it was mostly barely noticeable, unless touching the mic. In my friend's basement, the mic was unusable due to 60Hz hum.
After fiddling with the mic, I figured that the metal body, which should be shielding the mic, was not properly connected to ground. I unscrewed the bottom piece (around the XLR connector) and then the main body piece comes right off. Due to paint, these two pieces were not forming a reliable electrical connection, hence the hum. A little attention with some emery cloth on the contact surfaces between the two pieces and I everything is good! It took me just a couple minutes to take care of both mics.
Now that the hum has been eliminated, both of my mics sound great with accurate sound reproduction and good rejection of background noise outside the cardioid pattern. The included shock mount works very well--I have one mic mounted on a suspension boom and I can move that around without significant sound coming through the mic.
The included pop filter is better than nothing, but I would recommend a proper screen if you're going to get up close and personal with this mic.

Vert good sounding mics
I bought two LC100s. The sound a lot better than I thought they would. Great addition to your home studio if you need a 'do it all' mic. They do NOT sound like $4000 mics but they DO sound as good as some $500 mics. Built well too.

Distorted output
Output is distorted. I've done some troubleshooting, but not enough to completely prove it's this mic. Using phantom power, doing everything right as far as I can tell. It's possible my interface is the problem.

Good value
Nice equipment. Needs a dyno stick to bring out the lows and clean clipping. I have spent more more money for far less value on more name brand mics. 1000 this is not comparable but value to dollar its there.if this were name brand it'd be 250-399.
