This was the exact cable I needed for a specialized application of connecting a laptop with S-Video and 3.5mm jack outputs to a TV with 3 RCA inputs. My friend was very impressed with the quality of the cable. The length is perfect as well, I can leave the laptop on the desk and just connect the cables to the front of the TV, instead of having to drag the whole laptop + docking station to the floor in front of the TV and then hooking up RCA.
second purchase from monoprice, second time i was completely satisfied with a cable that works perfectly. It's hard to write a review more detailed than that for a cable it does its job, you don't even think about its existence. no signal loss (watching my laptop on a 40" high def unit), no noise, no problem with the connectors, it "just works".
This cable was shipped quickly and arrived packed neatly. When unpacked I could tell it was substantial, not flimsy. In addition, the connectors/plugs are high quality. The cable is much thicker than your average composite cables, and built tough. However, due to the thickness, it is not very flexible.
This cable was purchased for one reason only. To connect the laptop to the TV (SD, not HD), so that my daughter could watch pre-recorded TV shows & movies without interruption. She loves SpongeBob & Scooby Doo, and we get to watch dozens of episodes.
One set of connectors is plugged into my laptop. Since the audio input is along the front side of the laptop (near the touch pad) and the S-video input on the right side, I had to separate the audio and S-video input on the cable further , then pull it apart to the desired length. The original separation was not long enough to reach.
At first, I plugged the other side (I think RCA) into the TV. This worked for 1 day, then mysteriously lost video. No amount of jiggling or resetting the connections helped. The solution was to plug that end into the DVD/VCR player, which is connected to the TV. That worked and has been an excellent solution.
The cables literally convert the TV into a computer monitor (very low resolution), but for me it's only useful for playing videos. For that, it performs very well, and doesn't mind which video player software you use.
