Make sure the DSP isnt muted, but to select an effect, turn the program knob and then when u reach the desired number, push down on the knob. To activate it on a channel, under STEREO AUX RETURNS, i turn up knob 4 and activate the main mix button. Finally on the desired channel, i adjust how much effect i want with the DFX2 knob. Im not sure if there is another way but this works for me

Does this board send individual channel sends through USB, like and audio interface, or does it just group them into a stereo pair or mono channel? And do the faders act as pre-amps for the USB use?

BEST ANSWER: Thanks for your interest in this USB Mixer. The USB output is bussed from the master stereo out. As a 2ch out you can record a stereo pair of you entire mix or use the pan pots on the channels for dual mono recording.

It just sends the main stereo output. It's easily recognized by Ableton Live, but only as two channels.

I'm not sure I understand this question. If I understand you correctly, that would be lining up two AD converters in series. The usb only carries digital audio, not control signals for your DAW if that' s what you were thinking.
To connect a board to an interface, you would connect an audio out from the board to an audio in on your interface. The interface then does the AD conversion and the signal is sent to your DAW. You don't need to use the USB in and out at all.

I use an Odyssey Gear 10 space glide case and all the cables that I keep connected run through the gap between the case and the board. If you don't mind unplugging the power cable when you put the lid on, you can use the 10 space box. Otherwise, like Dave stated it will require an 11 space box.

I agree that the picture should have a zoom mode on it, but if you down-load the pdf manual the pictures are quite clear and all is explained.

What's not to like
It's not big and heavy duty like the boards were 30 years ago. These days all my playing is done in my home studio. This board had more inputs for the money. I shopped all over and found nothing that equals it on price and features. Give it a close look.

Versatile console
The board is very well made and I was delighted to see that I can record my live shows directly to my computer. The DSP is not great but I was able to find a couple of effects that will do the job.

Dps effects on subgroup 3 only
Dps effects are on subgroup 3 only.
Great buy. Does all I need. Needed more inputs than the 6 on a fender passport 300.
Mics and instruments into this mixer and stereo out of it to the fender passport and it works great.

Great Value
I wanted a bigger mixer for my home studio. I've been using synths and drum machines more and more, so I wanted to be able to have more send and inserts more in and outs generally for sound design. I don't use this in a live situation; this machine feeds my AD converter, and vice-versa.
This thing has a a lot of in and out options: four aux sends, four direct outs for 4 channels, four channels of subgroup, each with its own insert, and an dual inserts on the master bus.
The build feels solid, but not superb. No silky faders or knobs, but also no shaky knobs or sliders. Whisper quiet.
Cons: the usb is a joke. If you're in need of a mixer this complex, you probably already have an AD converter that works about 100 times better.
The DSP is pretty lackluster. A single knob to change the program. The programs are pretty lame. I'll confess i haven't listened to all of them, but I also haven't watched all the Transformer movies, just in case one of them doesn't make me vomit (i.e. there isn't much point).
The manual needs some work. Besides being light on details, it contains factual errors. And the thing is: once you start finding things in the manual that you KNOW are not true, you begin to question everything else. I'd start point out some of the errors I have noticed, but my rate for editing is a lot higher than my rate for writing reviews.
Those cons are pretty minor relative to the overall value of this machine. The quality of the build and the multitude of routing options make this a very good value.
