There are two types of DVI cables. Make sure you need the one with extra pins because it will not fit if you have the other type.. If you don't have 2 pins above and below the wide flat pin then this cable will not work. Luckily this was the one that I needed.
This is a high quality cable that would have worked very well IF it had fit. Sadly, I didn't do my homework. A reviewer here said this was "junk" but that is because he, like I, thought he was buying a DVI-D but he bought (as did I) this DVI-I. The extra four pins that surround the flat horizontal pin are the key. DVI-I uses those for analog signals.
Look at your computer and monitor connections. If the horizontal blade has four pins surrounding it, you need DVI-I. If there are no pins surrounding the horizontal pin, don't buy this cable!! Look for a DVI-D.
Unlike the other reviewer, I did not choose to blame MonoPrice for MY mistake! I am ordering the proper cable today and I know I will be pleased.
Since there was no DVI-I cable extension per se, I used it to extend a short cable stack for analog CCTV cameras into a PCI-E capture card in conjunction with a dual link DVI-I coupler, because it ran short and was always pulling on it when the server is serviced. This cable provides the strength and flexibility I needed
PROS: DVI-I, compatible with DVI-A or DVI-D, especially useful for CCTV applications since they tend to be DVI-I connectors
Excellent cable protection
CONS: 28AWG provide strength in lieu of flexibility
This cable will not fit into a typical DVI computer slot or monitor. I tried it with two monitors and two different DVI cards. Neither end fits into the slots. It appears to be a QC issue where the horizontal pin is too wide. I ended up buying a cable that would work at a big box store. I certainly paid more but the cable worked. I have had this issue with other Monoprice items. Some of their products are really good...some poorly engineered junk. This cable falls into the junk category.
The cable looks fine. But how I tried up-side-down right-side-up the screws for securing the connector just wont screw in. So I am left with a loose dangling cable that is up to no good. I want a refund!
