are these true UV?
A shopper
on Jun 10, 2019
The so-called user's manual doesn't say. True "UV," meaning UV only and no visible light (UV-B, UV-C 200 - 300nm wavelength), parts are expensive and not easy to work with safely. My scientific wild-ass guess (SWAG) as a long time LED and laser diode user is that these are (inexpensive) near-UV (UV-A) LEDS in the 380 - 420nm range, These look purple/violet to the eye and are cheap, but I wouldn't look at them up close at high intensity for very long. We use the cubes in theatrical productions and the UV feature works great at making glow tape and fluorescent paints show up. Will also make costumes do interesting things, such as showing up different thread, some dyes fluorescing, and more -- so if you're going to be using these in a theatrical setting, you really should have them up and running for your costumer and for costume parade!
Anyone interested in providing more detail could give us the manufacturer, part number, and wavelength of the actual parts used. If they are in the 200 - 300nm range, please provide a link to the appropriate safety documents.

Not sure what you mean about true UV but I have three and have used them in only UV mode and also mixed the UV with other colors in preset mode. The super bright is no joke and the reason why I purchased these. All UV lit a room of 250 - 300 screaming kids. It gave the black light effect by making everything white shine. Hope this helps.

It is true UV...But very low output. Only 64 lumens @ 10' (3 meters). Use an old school blacklight Canon if you want portable intense blacklight, IMO.

The power supply is internal, so it is difficult to say what they do, but the connector is straigt 120V. The only way you would know is to take one apart.

I wouldn't know. Maybe Monoprice could chime in on this. The light is good. I have 8 of them. Only 1 arrived DOA and
Monoprice took care of it. I think its safe to say that no accessories are available. No clamps for barn doors. I don';t think this light lends itself to those types of accessories. Up light or down light is good. I have left these lights on for 3 days at a time and they just work

Hello Eric, your most cost effective way to acquire a Powercon Male / Female jumper is to either cut off the Edison end on the power cable provided and add on an “in” powercon plug. The other cost effective way is to buy bulk 14 gauge cable and build your own and buy raw powercon male / female ends. You can purchase Powercon jumpers online but manufacturers get a pretty penny for them. Hope this helps.

What does PAR mean?
Daniel d
on Nov 22, 2021
BEST ANSWER: PAR stands for parabolic aluminized reflector. It's actually a lighting term that refers to the type of lamp, or lightbulb, that is installed in a stage lighting fixture known as a Parcan. Parcans were the ubiquitous light fixture on concert tours for years, but the advent of self-contained LED fixtures has changed that. I think they call these fixtures "pars" because of the association to stage lighting. Pars or Parcans are mainly wash lighting fixtures that cannot be focused on a particular spot, so these LED lights do share the same general purpose as the legacy Parcan.

Close but missing one key thing
Overall great lights, definitely respond slower than ADJ or Chaubet lights of similar stats. I use soundswitch to program lights and when the software sends an intensity drop signal, the chauvet lights turn all the way off between beats where the stage right lights only pulse. Colors are excellent, would make great up lights or wash lights but can?t do speedy response like a more expensive on brand light.

Fantastic Value for a Stage LED Fixture!
These lights are a fantastic value for the price! They are full metal construction and very durable. They are also very bright and work very well both in a completely dark room or a room with ambient lighting. I am very pleased with them and will continue to purchase them as long as the quality level stays high and the price stays reasonable.

Fantastic color, smooth DMX response
These are my favorite lights in my little venue, the colors are lush, noticeably deeper than my regular budget RGB LEDs. The UV is nice to add special sauce to the blues and lavenders. The amber is gorgeous. The white is pretty nasty on its own, you need to mix in the amber or red to get a nice front lighting. I do like the nasty white as an overhead, accent light, though, and it mixes well with the other colors, opening up a lot of palette options. The node setting is super cool- my other LED lights have a lot of steppiness and harsh transitions, but the node makes these react like an incandescent fixture, and smooths out the dmx control. Very artful feature.
One thing to note, is that these have a pretty broad wash, they may not work in positions where you are trying to control spill. The other thing is odd, speakon-like power connector. Which is reassuring that it locks, a good system, it is just that it is a pretty short (3'?), specialized cable.

Solid lights for a good price.
Overall I'm a huge fan of these fixtures. Value for money they're phenomenal. The amber and white channels really help with color mixing; I can actually get decent yellows/oranges now! I also love using UV as a sweetener - it really makes blue pop.
They don't flicker, which is wonderful. They also have a significantly smoother dimming curve than just about any other LED fixture I've tried in this price range, and that's huge for me working in a theatrical environment.
They're also very well-built; they're sturdy, and the eight I've been running for the past year or so have had no issues.
The only improvement that I would really love to see for these is the addition of barn doors. If Monoprice would release a kit to retrofit these with barn doors, that would really be the icing on the cake!
**Also, if Monoprice would start selling powerCON extensions (rather than just NEMA to powerCON) I would very much appreciate it!
