BEST ANSWER: This is a semi hollow body guitar. It arrived several weeks ago. I own over 20 guitars all of which are American Fenders, Gibsons Gretch and PRS. It is a very good value with good action and intonation. The frets needed to be polished and the tuning pegs needed tightening , the posts that hold the bridge in place needed some glue as they were loose. Once I made all the adjustments it became a fairly decent playable guitar probably worth twice the price. Don't expect this to be as good as a Gibson ES 335 which would cost 10 times as much.

I recently bought one. They would be considered Semi-Hollow since there is support for the neck running through the body of the guitar. I have several guitars and this guitar is really a great value.

Because it feels heavier in the rear than I anticipated I expect it is NOT fully hollow. I think there is a solid beam going right down the middle inside. It might be the hardware however but I don't remember my Gibson ES330 being that rear heavy but that was many years ago.

If you read the Monoprice description of this guitar, you'll see that it is a real "hollowbody guitar. Of course, it needs to have some internal blocking and bracing to make it sturdy, and this guitar has that.

I bought the Tele style guitar, and I replaced the pickups without playing them. You may think this invalidates my opinion, but no; everything that matters on these guitars rocks! The frets are nice (sand the edges of need be) the neck is the fastest and smoothest I’ve encountered, and the body is heavy and high quality. I replaced tuners and pickups, but I have $200 into this guitar, and it outplays anything less than a g&l. Squier and other knockoffs don’t stand a chance. I do plan to buy many many more guitars from monoprice!

I understand your frustration, but these guitars are very popular and they only make limited amounts in each run - doesn’t mean that they sell out b/c people are buying large amounts to re-sell. Get on the email waiting list like everyone else, you’ll get notified as soon as they’re available again, and you can get your own.

The guitars are made in china however there not like the chinese double neck I bought from china direct last year. The flamed boardwalk I can't speak to. I bought the Black boardwalk I replaced the bridge otherwise I love it; I've played lead since 1974. Own a 58 Les Paul 2014 hist I tweaked it to match that without any trouble it came setup very well, tuners and pickups are very good. Light weight a GOOD PRICE. Even the gig bag which I've never used gig bags is Impressive. If you're looking for a guitar of this style you won't do better at Monoprice. Good Luck to you !!

I was looking at Hipshot and Gotoh locking tuners. I know there are cheaper ones than even those but if I'm spending money to upgrade I want it to really be an upgrade.

I'm confused by the control knobs on the 335 style boadwalk. There are 4 and a 3 way pickup switch. However when I am in the middle position, with both pickups on, the bridge pickup volume does nothing. If the neck pickup is at 0, then I get no volume when using what I think is the bridge volume. If I select the bridge pickup then I get volume changes from that knob. Can anyone advise?
Antony B
on Dec 28, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Whatever volume knob you turn on the other knob becomes like the master volume and you can't have one pickup louder then the other they both have same amount of output when in the middle position on select switch. I bought a new wiring set and pots and replaced them and now it works like it should. You can get a decent cheap set on ebay for 30 bucks and that will fix it like it's supposed to be and then this guitar will play really nice for the price I paid for it

Try to lower main volume then slowly shift the pickup lever on what you desire to use. Rapid shift results delayed reaction or sometimes no sound at all. Adjust all knobs on medium range while shifting the pickup lever until all gets into place depending on your timing as well.

It is wired like a Gibson. If the selector is in the middle, the volume must be up for each pickup in order for it to work. The pots are wired in series as far as I know.

You want to play an electric guitar, UNamplified?.
It will sound like any unamplified electric guitar: horrible.
I can only guess that you're confusing a hollow body guitar with the latest acoustic-electric guitars(Yamaha makes some models I believe) that can be played both acoustically and then as an electric guitar?.
This guitar is not such a design.

Would a pickguard design for the Gibson ES-335 fit this guitar?

The distance between the plastic pickup surrounds is 2 3/8 inch. That is the same as the distance for the Les Paul and the ES I think. Pick guards are cheep and so is this guitar so try it. The mounting bracket is adjustable. You can always cut a custom guard yourself if you have to.

BEST ANSWER: I bought both acoustic. There will never be too many guitars in my collection. And you wont be disappointed and i both enjoy the distinctive sounds of the dreadnought . The finish is also very nice workmanship.

Happy camper
I finally have the guitar I wanted and I am very happy. The first shipment had a blemish and Monoprice support was awesome. They issued and RMA and by the end of the week I had a replacement. The guitar sounds wonderful and barely needs a setup. Just new strings.

Decent
Nice guitar. Biggest problem is the fretwork. The ends are pretty rough

Great guitar.
This is a great guitar. The only flaw I found was the scratched bridge tailpiece. Everything else was superb.

Great Guitar... Best One Yet!
Beautiful guitar!
Let me start by saying this is my fifth guitar from this company. 2 Indio flame top Strat styles, 1 Monoprice branded Strat, 1 Les Paul Junior style, and now this Baby! I also have had 2 of their 15w tube amps - still own one, the older Monoprice branded 'T.V.' style.
With a little work/tweaking, these are all fine serviceable instruments.
This ES335 style was the exception: IT NEEDED NOTHING right out of the box! It was almost in tune! This is truly a fine instrument. I've been playing professionally for 56 years (YIKES!)
My only disappointment was the same guitar was on Amazon for $30.00 less. I guess 'cause they by in volume lots.
In any event, this is a fine guitar no matter the price.

I really like the sound of it and the looks of it. It plays well but has extremely sharp fret edges and I have cut my hand playing it. It also has blemishes on the finish in different areas, but can be expected do to the price. The frets should be smoothed at the ends, it's the only big drawback.

For the price it's great. Flamed Maple look is almost Invisible though.
Even though I have pointed out 2 small issues such as color and small flaw in finish , everything also seems good. Frets are pretty smooth , action is nice , sound and pickups are pretty good. I just really wish color looked like the online one pictured did. Don't get me wrong , all black looks good too but the main reason I selected this one was because I thought the grey burst flamed maple pictured on site looked awesome.

Could have been twice the price and I?d still be satisfied.
Generally the Boarkwalk comes already with a decent to great setup out of the box. The intonation was shockingly pretty spot on. I?m in love with the neck. The head is functional. Best humbuckers I?ve ever received in this price range. Great work on the fretting. When there is a permanent ?smudge? on the body by the bridge, you know they took some effort in setting up your guitar correctly. The Glarry is going to need more TLC out of the box from what I have been told by others. But like all low price guitars some are gems, some are only good for kindling, or somewhere in between. Good quality control for the price and arrived in 3 days after ordering. The charcoal is beautiful even though their grain lines can be hard to see. Comes with name brand strings which is a great plus. Save time and money. B+ gig bag included. Between parts and labor this is a awesome ?bang for your buck?. Do it. Do it now!:-)

Good guitar lousy finish.
The finish is rather poor, can?t see flame top. Looks like overspray. I guess to be expected on $249 guitar.
