They're just long enough to reach from the tuners to the bridge. I think they're 10's. You'll want to shield the cavity (bathtub) and upgrade pots and switch, but very playable out of the box. I was impressed.

I'm hoping the answers saying they are 10's are right - I usually use Super Slinky 009's, but after playing this Cali, I'm switching to 10's because I think they have more volume and clarity.

it depends on the model. The red ones have a maple fret board so look up your model to see. I have a Sun burst model with what looks like a rosewood
The same as the black model but i.believe it's a fake rosewood. I think the maple is nicer.

No! Sale of Rosewood is Illegal in USA. It has a similar (Indian-like) wood, that's a bit lighter in color, but with some oils it can be made looking the same.
There's no sound difference. This guitar doesn't sound very good.

A close look at the online image shows this to be a maple neck with a rosewood fret board. My blue version is all maple for the "white" look. Obviously, they are trying to match the dark body with a dark fret board.

Because of the body contours, it is hard to compare, but I eyeballed it against my Fender American Professional Stratocaster, and the Indio appeared to be a hair thicker. I was surprised because when I play it, it seems thinner.

Never had a guitar should I buy this one?
A shopper
on Oct 19, 2020
BEST ANSWER: If you are looking to buy a low-end electric guitar then the answer is yes.
The issue that Brian O referenced in his answer (never get a guitar with a tremolo as a first guitar) is easily addressed.
1.) Remove the plastic plate on the back of the guitar
2.) You will see springs the run from the Tremelo to metal parts the springs hook on to.
3. At one end of the metal piece the springs hook onto are screws that go into the body of the guitar.
4.) Tighten those screws as much as you can. This will lock the Tremelo down.
5.) Replace the plate on the back of the guitar.
6.) IMPORTANT - DO NOT TRY TO USE THE TREMELO WHEN ITS LOCKED DOWN!!!!!!
7.) Rock Out!!!

Judging from the picture, I'd say the black body DOES have the maple neck. It's the fret board that is dark (rosewood). Clearly, they were trying to produce an "all-dark" look.

I just bought the black one on the Black Friday sale. Will swap parts with the blue burst to make blue/rosewood w/black pickups and a black/maple/w/white pickups set of guitars. I also got a set of '54 Vintage Pro alnico 5 pickups for (slightly) better sound. outside of the (optional) pickups, I couldn't have bought the replacement parts for what I paid for the whole guitar. Plus, I'm pretty sure the parts will fit with no modification needed.

I would love to see a "David Gilmour tribute" model: maple neck, 1-ply black pickguard with creme pickups, knobs and switch tip on the black body. A very decent replica of a guitar that auctioned for around $4 million for $100? Sign me up!

There's major differences. In sound and playability mostly. The 66 is more like a gibson Les paul..Single cut body, 2 humbuckers instead of 3 single coils like the cali. There different animals entirely. I would say go for the one that fits your style of music better. If your into bluesy strat stuff, Stevie ray, clapton, etc..get the strat..
If you likje a heavier sound, then surely go for the 66..Strat's are more comfy to play though, and they can be modified to whatever u desire. U can easily put humbuckers in a strat, just change the pickguard. Not the case with the 66..The body is routed for humbuckers, and that's it. I have 2 cali classics, and must say, they play fantastic for the money. Electronics & hardware are entry level, but they can easily be upgraded over time. I like strats alot because there so interchangable. any pickup configuration you want, is simple..Just swap the pickguard..everything mounts to that..no drilling, or routing the body..Just a thought... Hope this helps in your decision.... Cheers....... Tom

Does anybody know what type or size for the bridge/saddle screws? I'll like to get some replacements as I lowered the action, but need to know the diameter/type.
I suspect they might equivalent to saddle/bridge height screws available elsewhere that are M3 threaded size and 10mm high/tall, so I am thinking of getting M3's that are 8mm. If possible, let me know what size and type they are. Thanks.

Good black ST style guitar!
It looks good. Like any guitar at this price you can upgrade all kinds of things (which is why I bought it) and make it even better. The body is a rich black color and the neck is a nice wood with a dark rosewood. The hardware is the weakest part (still good and playable, but probably should be replaced). I am enjoying my purchase!

What you see is what get ...
What you see (in my case) was a black Stratocaster knock-off and what I got was black Stratocaster knock. The quality is decent (downright great for the price). but of course, that means although the basic guitar is well mased the hardware and pickups are not of stellar quality. If you expected anything else you must be crazy. The guitar arrived in good shape ... I put on new strings and straightened the neck, then checked the intonation which was good... This is an EXCELLECT beginner's electric guitar. I have been playing for 50 years and I bought this guitar to practice my guitar repair skills. I will pull all the frets and re-radius the neck then refret the guitar and perhaps replace the pickups. If you buy one of these, be sure have a luthier (guitar builder/repair person) set it up for you if you don't know how to do that for yourself. These are great low-end guitars but (like any other guitar) they do need a setup. I am old enough to remember all the bad ( as in almost unplayable) beginner's guitars from back in the day. Now with CNC machining the quality of the low-end guitar market has increased greatly and this guitar is the result. The beginner can now get a decent guitar at a decent price. This is one of the best guitars the low-end market segment has to offer. Rawk On!!!

Good value, but not flawless
I bought this a little over a month ago, and I play it every day. I'm a beginning guitar player, and I'm happy with my purchase. The reviews I read prior to buying this varied: some said it was flawless, others found multiple problems. It appears that while it is an overall good value, the individual guitars may vary in quality. I haven't had a "set up" done on it yet, so I've been playing it just "out of the box" and I'm impressed with the sound and playability.
Pros:
Looks good.
Sounds good.
The little practice amp that came with it sounds very nice, and you're not gonna play a bar gig with it, but it's sufficient for practicing at home or even in a garage jam.
It's built to upgrade over time, so you can easily customize it how you like.
Cons (bearing in mind this is just "out of the box" with no setup):
The frets are installed inconsistently. Some frets are flush to the edge of the fretboard, a few are a bit short of the edge, and others stick out past the edge, making it difficult and painful to slide your hands down the fretboard. (See the photo.) This doesn't seem to affect the sound.
There's a light intonation issue on the higher strings: a perfectly tuned E on the open string gets to be a sharp E in the 12th fret (so it's about halfway between an E and an F), but this could probably be fixed with a proper set up.
Very minor issue: the strap that comes with it is AWFUL. It's thin, it's itchy, it has no pick holders, and the slots to go into the buttons on the guitar don't lock well.
Very minor issue: the gig bag is flimsy.
Consistent with the reviews I read before buying this, it is definitely worth the money if you are a beginning guitar player or are looking to customize your own guitar over time. The sound is good out of the box and it's a great guitar that can grow with you as you grow as a musician. The quality of individual components (the finish, the frets, etc.) may vary a bit from item to item, which is to be expected at this price point.

Looks Good, but fret ends too sharp to play OOTB
I got the black cali classic strat. When it arrived and I unboxed it, I found the fret ends were very sharp and had not been filed. This left the guitar unplayable until I get it set up and the fret work done. I imagine the pickups and pots are fairly cheap, so I also purchased some Alnico 5 pickups off of EBay. We'll see if it becomes a good guitar, or a money pit.
