Why no pick guard? That would really make this guitar, I dig it anyway and am going to get one, but pick guard would be nice.

BEST ANSWER: I imagine Monoprice decided the pickguard was a good part to leave off in the battle with Gibson over copyright
If you want one, look at amazon or Wish. They are inexpensive and easy to install.

This is an excellent guitar. I really like the one I bought.
You can get pickguard material from Amazon or “Stewmac” and create your own. Kinda put your own signature on it.

What kind of pickups come in the guitar ?
Warren K
on May 7, 2022
BEST ANSWER: They come with ceramic pickups that sound good with more output than regular paf type. I think my clocked in at 9.5 in the neck and around 11 in the bridge. Don't think I'll be replacing mine, they sound good.

Cheap Chinese humbuckers, but they sound OK. I replaced mine with GFS Retro-Trons, they sound much better!

Is the C neck profile similar to early 60s "Slim Taper" (which I love), or more of a chunky baseball bat feel (which I hate)?

BEST ANSWER: It doesn't seem too chunky to me---Maybe in the middle between 60's slim taper and 50's fat---My hands aren't big but guitar was comfortable for me to play and the fit and finish was great!

Are the pickups alnico and are they four conductor pickups?
New User U
on Jul 30, 2022
BEST ANSWER: I haven’t pulled the humbuckers but the sound is warm and hot and handles distortion well. Alnico magnets most likely. As war as splitting or tapping I don’t think it’s worth it.

You can do better for the money.
The title pretty much says it all . I have several Les Paul copies, and for $50 or so less you can get a better guitar.
The tuners on these are borderline garbage, and not much else stands out as great.
I have or have had IYV, Firefly, Grote and several other "LP types", and all cost less and were better overall guitars.

Great wood and tone
Flawless and beautiful guitar overall that plays well .. the action is a bit high but typical as configured outta the box but everything was in working order. The sustain w/the mahogany/maple is superb. The pick ups sound great. The neck is a C shape and feels quite like a Gibson LP Standard/Traditional. Not the wider 50's neck but the narrower/standard neck. Looking closely, there's a very very slight slant on the 12th & 19th fret on mine such that the low E would fret buzz a tad due to that the fret had been seated lower at the low E . This fret slant didn't impact the A string but to correct it, I just raised the edge of the 12th and 19th fret wires so they're perfectly parallel w/the neighboring frets (i.e.12th is now parallel to the 11th and 13th, andthe 19th is parallel to the 18th and 20th frets. Now my 66 is perfectly sweet. The price was wonderful might I add. Thanks.

I LOVE Indio guitars!
I have not been disappointed by a single guitar that I have ordered and I now own 27 Indio guitars in my collection of 68 guitars!!! Great bodies and the finish has always been top shelf in my opinion.
Great job Monoprice!!!

Closer to great than it should be
For the price, this is an amazing instrument. Out of the box, it needed some work. With a basic setup (truss adjustment, setting the action and intonation) it plays amazingly well.
Intonation was a little off on the lower strings (slightly flat at max adjustment). The neck needed a little less relief as it came. The frets are very rough and need polishing. I will level them and polish them, and hopefully lower the action slightly. I really can't complain. It's not a pro-level instrument, but it hits WAY above its weight for the price..
Pickups are ok. They're not super hot (which I like in this type of guitar). I might swap to P90s for a little more vintage sound.
Finish was great. I couldn't find a single imperfection. I was a little worried because it arrived without the box taped shut.. I guess I'm fortunate that it just had to travel across Ohio to my house from Cinci to Y-town, so there was less opportunity for it to get damaged.
Love the gig bag. Love that they include a cable and hex key for the truss rod.
This is my 3rd Indio, and I will likely buy another one. it's too much fun for such a little investment.

Great out of the box, amazing after setup and mods.
I have several LP-style guitars, but this one is the best feeling one with the best fit and finish. Absolutely beautiful! One bit of shipping damage- The top tuning keys were bent. The tuner button's color choice is a bit questionable as well- they look more "toxic waste" rather than "vintage" -colored
Although the guitar needed no modifications, I prefer the ability to be able to split coils on the pickups, (stock pickups are two conductor) so I put in a set of the well regarded Donlis alnico 2 PAFs and an Epiphone coil split wiring harness. I also added a cheap Fakenberg tremolo arm and a roller bridge, just to try it out. It's staying!
The fact that it came with a decent embroidered gig bag at this price is amazing. I believe it kept the shipping damage down to just a bent tuner instead of something much worse.
Attached photos show the guitar after the changes, along with my modded Cali Classic.

Great quality and budget friendly guitar.
Great budget guitar. I am very happy with fit and finish of the entire guitar, body finish, neck and body bindings, fretboard and inlays all look fine. I am also impressed with the setup of the guitar and the playability as shipped, no issues with hardware or electronics.
