Is the metal aluminum or steel (asking because I like to use magnetic page holders)?

The Monoprice sheet music stand has magnetic properties so it is most likely some form of Steel.

Will this hold a church hymnal?
A shopper
on Jun 22, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Mine is sturdy enough to hold a hymnal and several notebooks and doesn't move at all unless you adjust it. It is my favorite music desk and would probably hold several hymnals if you were doing comparisons or something. I am a harper.

Yes it can and much heavier items too. There is a tension adjuster for the top to make it stronger but harder to tilt and vice versa.

it's strong enough but I wouldn't use it for that - every music stand I've ever used eventually has folded up unexpectedly.
This is one of the strongest I've used but in the end it's still a music stand, not a laptop stand.

Initially I'd say yes-it is sturdy enough. I have a 3 inch binder with my sheet music. The stand holds it easily. Just be aware of "top heaviness." The music stand is WELL worth the price, comparable to stands twice the price.

It actually depends on how much you extend the legs--the more they are extended, the higher the stand shaft extends. I would say that on order to maintain minimum stability for the stand, you would extend the legs about 1/3 of their length. That would put the base of the tablet (the lip of the tray that holds the music) about 24" from the ground.

I do not have one here at home but use the stand at church and used one yesterday so this is my best estimate. I would say the lowest height would be around 28 inches. Hope this helps.

Open box. Remove contents. Remove base assembly and music holder from plastic bags. Loosen knob on the top of the leg assembly and spread the legs. Tighten knob gently. Loosen knob at top of stand and raise the center post about 1 foot (30 cm). Tighten knob gently. Hold the music holder in a normal-use position. Rotate assembly on the back of the music holder so the part that attaches to the post is lined up with it. Loosen knob that tightens holder to post and place holder on post. It will be snug and will require a bit of rotating to get them to nest properly. Gently tighten knob that secures the holder to the post. The twin knobs on the back of the holder are for adjusting and holding the angle of the holder to your preference.

Assembly also stumped me for a little while. This product needs a diagram. I discovered that the swivel on the top part is oriented upside down. It can be forced to its correct position but it takes some effort. Once assembled, this stand is quite versatile and stable.

Actually, the tray (the top) fits on much easier than is shown here: It slips down over the the adjustable shaft that comes up from the stand and tightens down with a knob--very easy.

Small Flaw On Arrival
The unit arrived ahead of schedule, and had a small plastic piece that was broken. That did not interfere with the function of the stand, so I didn't make a big deal about it or return it. My guess is that this product was purchased as an overstock or flawed item from the OEM, which would explain its attractive price compared to other online retailers offering the same item.

I love it! Standing desk hack
I specifically bought this for a 17 inch laptop so I'm not sitting all the time. It's pretty stable on my cushy carpet & the holes allow the laptop not to overheat. This works for me since I don't do a ton of typing & use the track pad instead of a mouse. The part that traditionally would hold sheet music is not great for resting the wrist on. I also like that I can move it around my tiny apartment like in front of a window for better lighting during Zoom calls. Solid quality & easily adjusts. Highly recommend!
