BEST ANSWER: They are used to make (or in my case, repair) Speakon style speaker cables which most pro audio amps use for a good, solid, and quick way to connect speaker cabinets to power amps particularly for mobile setups.

This is a speaker connector that connects power amp to speaker or one speaker to another in chain. You have to have bulk wire and 2 of these to make your own speaker wire. Most pro gear has speakon connections.

how do you wire these? is there a wiring diagram or instructions. I see you insert the speaker wire, but which is which.

Your listing says 2-pole, but NL4 in the past was a 4-pole speakon connector. Your listing does not show the wire connection hardware. What is the turn story? Is the NL4 incorrect and should be NL2? Or is this a 4-pole that is listed incorrectly.

Sorry Monoprice, but you failed on this one
I have been a loyal customer of Monoprice for almost ten years, and have been impressed with the quality of goods available. However, these twist connectors didn't fare as well for me. The screw lugs that are used to attach the wire to the connector were cross-threaded into the lug on 1/3 of the terminals, and made some of them impossible to tighten without ruining the tensioning screw. On most I had to remove the screw and attempt to thread the screw properly, but some of them wouldn't work. I ended up just tightening them to death to make the connection, and now I have ordered twist connectors from another vendor to replace all the units I ordered.
Also, the twist lock part of the connector wouldn't lock into place. Without pressing on the unlock lever, you can remove these from the amp or speaker by just twisting them.

these are easy to install, have good strain relief so they don't pull off and work well in my rental PA systems.

Made My Own Cable
I used these to make my own NL4 to 1/4" cable because my power amp has NL4 connectors and my unpowered speakers are 1/4" jacks.
Monoprice dose not offer this design yet but that would be a great ideal as many power amps are using NL4 connectors more often.

Like I stated above, easy to use, mates correctly, and a very nice product for the price. will definitely buy more.

Nice
Overall this is a great product have been using them for a couple weeks where I've had a few shows and these are holding up great. I will be ordering more of these.
PROS: Great product for the price. Easy to use and install. Fit perfectly. Awesome Overall
CONS: Have to be careful not to over tighten the cable grip.
