I have Samson C02’s for drum overheads. Looking for an upgrade. Are these any better?

BEST ANSWER: Our capsule is a little bigger so we go down to 30Hz vs. CO2s 50Hz. Self noise is also better; 18db vs 22db.

Idk about Samons, not familiar with that make. I'd compare these quality wise to the rode m5's. They are clear, low noise floor, very little color and have a useful response pattern. Build quality might be a little on the light side, but as long as your taking care of them that shouldnt be an issue. If you're upgrading from anything under $150 per mic this will be a better bet.

These seem to have a lot lower self-noise than the samson CO2s for about the same price. I no longer have a CO2, so I can't compare the sound but I suspect they both have the same 7-10khz bump. These do have a lot of handling noise, so you have to mount them well. I've also found they're susceptible to RF noise, but many cheap pencil mics are.

Hey Patrick,
I can't tell you if they're better, I've never used Samson's. I can tell you that if you get these they work great and are nice, crisp, and clear. So even if they aren't better, they will be a great addition to your collection, if you need them.

never used the Samsons, but I love the Monoprices. Hear em for yourself, I used them to record Spectral Terrestrial by Gene Wildest. Check it out on Soundcloud. This website wont let me include a link for some idiotic reason

I would say so. ALSO I have used the Monoprice Large Diaphram Condensers as over heads and they are actually fantastic. Nice crisp sounding cymbals but not brittle in the high end.

I’m not sure for that application. I bought them to record acoustic guitar, which they do an adequate job at. The quality and freq response are good.

I've never used the Samson C02 mic. My thought is that they are in the same category. An upgrade would be Rode or Oktava.

A very poor, foam, clown-nose windscreen is provided. I keep one taped onto the mic at all times, because I do not like the gold capsule.

How well do these work with the 600700 condenser microphones? Would a shock mount be better even for stationary use?

Monoprice Small-Diaphragm Condenser Microphones (Pair)

Monoprice Universal Microphone Clip

Monoprice HyperCardioid Capsule for 600700 Microphone
BEST ANSWER: These microphones actually come with mic clips included in the package. The spring clips you are asking about will work fine. I use these for choirs in an arena environment (and occasionally overhead drum mics) and have never needed anything other than the included mic clips.

They work fine for most standard diameter pencil type condensers. Grip is strong. If you have transferred vibration issues then by all means use a shock mount type but generally not needed

Where can I find the Omni capsules for these mics? When I click the link, it just takes me to the Monoprice home page. I’d really like the Omni capability because I’m using these to record a pipe organ.

Tested out Excellent
Tested against expensive models and these are really good mics! Cheap threading is a problem, be careful when changing capsules. Excellent "swiss army knife" mic. I tested these against $600 Michael Jolly Oktava Mics and WOW...these are not bad!

Good mic's for the price
This is the second set I have purchased. I use for drum overheads with the hyper cardioid capsules for live sound, very happy with results. Wind blew over one of my old ones and popped mic apart, put back together and still working a treat!

Not bad
Okay, I just bought these and I haven't had a lot of time to run them through the paces, but i got a good idea of how they'll work. Will update when I used them more.
First impressions: These bad boys are QUIET– and I don't mean output. I heard very little self-noise from them, which will make them great for quiet environments and instruments. So that's awesome.
I used them in an X-Y pair and recorded a little bit of acoustic guitar, and I think they reproduced the sound fairly accurately. This being said, the bass response wasn't as accurate as anything above 250-500hz. The mid range and treble frequencies sounded good, and pretty warm, but the bass was fuzzy and inaccurate. this isn't horrible, because I will probably use them most for drum overheads or lighter acoustic instruments that don't have a lot of presence in the lower frequency bands, but just be warned!
I really like these right out of the box. I'm impressed with the sound quality on something so inexpensive.

Amazing sound, delicate construction
These hold their own. I bought 6 pairs and I use them for mic'ing concert percussion, and the tone character is perfect.
My Komplete Audio 6 apparently wasn't providing sufficient phantom power for these. A few out of the 12 mics I got would generate a hiss when I tested them on the KA6. But, they all sounded flawless when powered by a mixer.
These certainly aren't built for rugged performance environments. Take care of them and they'll take care of you.

Great microphones for the price
I purchased these mics because I wanted another matched pair to add to my home studio. They are awesome! I like the ability to switch capsules for different pickup patterns too.
As soon as I got them, I sent them up to record my acoustic 12-string guitar using the same placement I use when I record with my matched pair of mics from a major manufacturer; so that I could compare apples to apples. I was astonished that these mics sounded so transparent. I immediately replaced the cardioid capsules with the hyper-cardioid capsules I bought, repositioned the mics a little and did an awesome second take.
I cannot say enough about the quality of these mics for the price. Like others have said, they really need a case (not a box). I would've paid an extra cost just for a decent case for them.
If you are thinking about getting these, quit thinking and just buy them. I will put them up against other microphones from major manufacturers costing 2 to 3 times as much.

Don't be Fooled by High Prices
These two units perform as specifications state. Tremendous value for the price. Excellent product for all small condenser applications.
