Monoprice 3ft 32AWG Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort Cable, White

Monoprice Select Series USB-C to DisplayPort Adapter

Monoprice Mini DisplayPort Coupler (Female to Female) - Straight Type
BEST ANSWER: Sorry, this will not be possible. The Apple Thunderbolt display uses the Mini DisplayPort connector, but it is not a DisplayPort connection. In the same way, Thunderbolt 3 uses the USB-C connector, but is not a USB-C connection. In other words, just because the connectors fit doesn't mean it will work. The Macbook 12" has USB-C only, not Thunderbolt 3 (the type that uses the USB-C connector). While there is a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter and the connectors will all fit together nicely, it will not work because the Macbook 12" doesn't support Thunderbolt 3, just USB-C. That being said, a computer with Thunderbolt 3 (like the 2016 MAcbook Pro) can use the adapter to connect to the older Thunderbolt display. It's confusing because the adapters look the same, so I hope this helps.

ah yes so i went over to try - and silly me, the Apple Thunderbolt monitor exposes a mini display port which obviously does not fit into this (full size-) display port adapter haha.

Wow, I haven't tried but will do so tonight! I have 2 of these connecters and use 1 with a Dell 4K 27", the 2nd is still in its sealed package.

No. This is USB-C to DisplayPort. You need USB-C to Thunderbolt 2.

I am hoping to use this plus the DisplayPort => Mini DisplayPort cable to use an iMac in Target Display Mode. Has anyone successfully achieved this, with this or other adapters, from a late 2016 MacBook Pro?

BEST ANSWER: It depends on which iMac. According to Apple's document HT204592, "Use your iMac as a display with Target Display Mode", only 3 categories of iMacs support Target Display Mode: iMac (27-inch, Late 2009), iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010), iMac (Mid 2011-Mid 2014). All of those three can use Thunderbolt for Target Display Mode. Only the first two (2009, 2010) will work with DisplayPort. The 2011-2014 models require Thunderbolt. For Thunderbolt, you'll want the Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter and a Thunderbolt 2 cable. Note that the Thunderbolt adapter does not pass DisplayPort signals, so you may want the DisplayPort adapter anyway to use non-Thunderbolt displays.

My iMac is a 27" mid-2010 model, so it sounds like you're agreeing that this DisplayPort adapter is the correct choice for my situation.

Yes, it should work, according to Apple's support document. I haven't tried it myself, so let us know how it goes, and whether or not you also try the Thunderbolt option.
Apple's Thunderbolt adapter currently has special pricing, and also allows older Thunderbolt 2 computers to use Thunderbolt 3 devices. Also, the adapter can be used for Target Disk Mode between a Thunderbolt 2 Mac and a Thunderbolt 3 Mac in either direction. Target Disk Mode can be used to transfer files or modify partitions on the disk without booting the computer.

I see this is a Mini DisplayPort to Dislplayport cable. Does this cable support 4K at 60hz? If not, can somebody point me in the right direction, I cannot find one.

Would have preferred black.
Shipping took a long time, but that's not Monoprice's fault.

Works great - Dell laptop dock to Lenovo monitor
Not much to say - either a cable works or it doesn't. This one is currently in use between a Dell WD15 laptop dock and a Lenovo ThinkVision 24" monitor. I originally had a 6' cable, but using this 3' cable really cleans up the workspace!

Exactly what I expected
Works exactly as expected on a macbook pro with Dell monitor. Comes with covers for the ends of the cables so you can protect them when not in use. Great product. Probably would have cost $30 from Apple, but I only paid a tenth of that.

It works, co complaints.
It works, and much better than the HDMI cable the display came with. I'm using it to connect a Samsung curved display to a 2012 MacBook Pro.

Works fine but a little short
I've never had an issue with a Monoprice cable, functionally, but I find 3 ft is just a bit constraining especially if you have a big monitor. I'd get 6ft if I had it to do over.

Has worked perfect in the 1.5 + yrs since I've had it
I use this with my early 2009 MBP 17" laptop to my Asus PB278Q 27" 2560X1440 display. It has worked perfectly in all the time I've had it. I use it daily. It works equally well when I boot into OSX and also into Windows via Bootcamp from my Macbook Pro. I wish I had bought the 6 ft cable though because the 3ft cable limits where I can put my MBP on my desk a bit. If I were to buy again I would definately get the 6ft.
PROS: It works.
