I have a boss effects pedal with bad line noise, is this pedal for that problem or do you have another product for that?

BEST ANSWER: There is a small chance that the ground lift will help the noise. You may need to look into a hum eliminator type product. If the pedal is irreplaceable you may want to get it repaired.

A problem with a noisy pedal can be due to an internal problem, bad cable, failing battery or a crappy power supply, too much amp gain with single coil pickups or close proximity to flourescent lights or stage light controllers. This direct box does not address any of these potential problems.
You can either fix the underlying issues (outline above) or get a Noise Gate pedal to hide the problem.

Hmmm, unless you really love this pedal i would replace it. This product is intended for plugging guitars or keyboards into microphone inputs. While it does have a ground lift for certain applictations, this is not one of them. You would be better off replacing the effect pedal or getting a power conditioner that filters rf frequencies and such. Also power from a power supply not a battery.

That is not the function of this device (which is mainly for connecting low impedance signals (e.g., from electic guitars or basses) to high impedance devices (like PA systems)). You might try a noise gate (like the MXR M135 Smartgate), but I don't believe that Monoprice offers a device like that currently.

This is a simple direct box, it will send whatever is coming from your device into a balanced line, presumably going to a mixing board. If you want to suppress noise, you probably need a noise gate or a combo gate/direct box like the MXR noise gate line driver.

The XLR side of the box is not pictured. Does this box have a male or female XLR?
David H

BEST ANSWER: As a direct box - its typical function is to take a 1/4 unbalanced source and provide a balanced output so the output is XLR male. As a side note - I also use them to take a line level balanced XLR signal and output it as a mic or level to a video camera with a 1/8" stereo input. Just add a Stereo mini to dual mono 1/4" cable. Good luck!

This is a basic DI for patching 1/4 cables into a PA, correct?

BEST ANSWER: Correct. Instrument goes to the 1/4' input, the 1/4' output goes to the instrument's amp (if used), and the XLR out on the other end goes to the PA. Use the Attenuate switch when using instruments with active electronics/ on-board pre-amps, and the Ground lift can be switched to lessen noise. Rock solid DI boxes!

Hi Jay,
Yes, this D.I. box is a perfect interface between any guitar pickup, keyboard, electronic percussion or other instrument going directly into a mixing board, converting as well from standard 1/4" instrument plugs to low-impedance XLR connectors for longer cable runs. I've used it many, many times now in LIVE situations and it functions perfectly... seemingly the same as many other D.I.s for many times the price. To be totally honest, I've NOT used it yet in my studio, so I actually can't vouch for close-tolerance noise levels or other more critical issues. That being said, I suspect it would work just fine in any situation you might throw at it. You can buy this D.I. with confidence. Good luck and enjoy!

BEST ANSWER: The direct box brings the signal from instrument level to microphone level. You should be able to dial it up to line level as long as your impedance is correct; but this will take some fiddling. A better bet is to use the mic preamp built into any mixer or to use an external mic pre amp. These are designed to take a mic level to a line level.

Yes you can. You might have to select - 20 dB.
Normally you wouldn't have to select - 40 dB.
Sometimes you will have to engage the ground lift if you get a lot of humming feedback.
They seem to be working fine with our keyboard and guitars.

BEST ANSWER: I use these DI Boxes on a regular basis to feed a XLR balanced Line through to in balanced input. This direct box would be a good choice as it has a three position attenuators that can be set to "0 dB" for your application so your signal loss would be minimum. It has an internal transformer and a ground lift switch for ground isolation. You will need a female to female XLR gender mender to connect your microphone. Electrically, it should work fine. The only concern I have is the amount of gain your amp has but since your concern was hum, I assume the gain is fine. Good luck.

I have a Wurlitzer jukebox in a game room that has remote speaker output (L & R) connections. I would like to connect the jukebox to my Onkyo TX-SR608 AV receiver which is in my living room. Since the output from the Jukebox is speaker level could I use two of these (one for L channel and one for right channel) to convert the speaker level signal to a "pre-out" signal that I can connect through one of the RCA (red/white) input options on the Receiver.
The goal being to hear the jukebox in the living room over the home theater speakers.
If so for the best quality sound would it be best to mount these near to the Jukebox or the receiver? in other words should I minimize the run of speaker level wire or should I keep the "pre-out" level wiring length to a minimum?
Is not what will I need?
Is there a "wireless" option that will achieve the same result?

No. A direct box is not designed to handle a speaker level signal. It is designed for a high impedence low power signal. If I understand your description, your remote speaker outputs on your jukebox are meant to drive passive speakers. This means they are a dierect output from a power amp. That high power would fry the direct box. Plus it would be an impedence mismatch.

BEST ANSWER: I'm not sure why anyone would have suggested using one of these for the purpose you describe, unless perhaps the speakers are quite distant from the projector, in which case a long cable run would be more susceptible to interference. These direct boxes would allow you to connect the RCA to the box, then use a long run of XLR cable to the speaker end. These are mono devices, so you'd need two of them, one per channel and assorted adapters at each end. HTH

I purchased 3 of these boxes. When I use the attenuators, -0 is quieter than -20, and -40 is loudest. From what I read in the description, -40 is supposed to be the quietest setting, correct? Did I purchase a bad batch? Was the attenuator/switch installed upside down?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
If it is still working normally otherwise that would likely mean that we had accidentally set the attenuation for this box backwards during manufacturing.
This isn't a sign that there is a problem with the item but you can request a replacement if you would like.
Please contact us at [email protected] and our knowledgeable Technical Support staff would be more than happy to assist with setting that up if you would like.

Not a question (?), but a comment. the Features section under Description says:
50 ohms TRS parallel input impedance
50 ohms TRS Parallel output impedance
This is incorrect. The TRS input and output impedance are both 50K ohms (50,000 ohms).

Can this be used for reamping guitar tracks? Basically, I want to be able to mic my amp for recording but also send a raw track to my DAW with this DI. Thanks!

Great choice for the price.
Even at the regular price this is a great buy for a DI box. I would have given 5 stars but for the fact that I always have to tighten the nuts on the jacks on every one I've purchased.

Response from Monoprice
It's great to hear that you find the Stage Right by Monoprice Sound Block Passive Direct Box to be a great buy, especially considering its price point. Your feedback about the need to tighten the nuts on the jacks is valuable, and it's something that can help the manufacturer improve the product. Thank you for sharing your experience! If you have any more audio equipment needs or questions, feel free to reach out.

Handy problem solver at a great price
This unit allows me to convert line-level/consumer connector signals to XLR cable for long cable runs. Also the ground lift has solved a nasty buzz problem hooking one particular computer to external sound reinforcement.

Does Exactly What It Needs To
I purchased this to help me with popping from my wireless horn mic in high altitudes. It's been a game changer and something that helps when you're desperately in need on a DI on a big stage. Can't wait till Monoprice develops a DI Box for stereo sound.

Low frequency drop off in the -20Db position.
Nice box for the price. When running pink noise frequency specs, I found that in the -20Db pad position, there is a significant roll off of low frequencies, similar to a good ?low cut filter?. All frequencies were relatively flat in the 0Db and -40Db position. Other than this, the construction is good and does the job as expected, especially for the price.
