They do not require phantom power. We have a separate powered mixer we mixed them to and then ran the mix to our main mixer. No problems!

I have already ordered Stage Right 7 piece drum mic kit. I am now in the market for a mixer and I’m looking at the Stage Right ix8B 8. However, I see the mixer has only 6 xlr inputs. Will this mixer work with the 7 mics? I will be using the mics for live play and not recording.

You can double up on mixer inputs(using a Behringer 10 ch.input mixer) by using Y cables. I have overheads on individual inputs along with bass drum and snare. I Y cabled toms(6) since they are close to each other anyway. Works for me in my situation.

I don't own the Stage Right ix8B, but it has channels 7 and 8 as 1/4-inch TRS inputs. I can't tell from the image if those channels have phantom power available, so that might affect whether the mics will work or not. (I can see the switch for channels 1-6, but not for 7/8.) So, you could get a cable with XLR on one end and 1/4-inch TRS on the other and take a risk, or you could keep it to 6 or less channels. For live, you might be fine without the overheads, depending on your kit.

Michael, This mixer would not handle the drum kit "native". To use all 7 mics in the drum kit, you would have to get an XLR to 1/4 phono adapter. But this approach seems very limiting. What happens if you want to add vocal mics, or other additional microphones? Unless you are the drummer, and you're only going to mix yourself, I would recommend at least a 16 channel mixer. Mackie, Allen&Heath, and Yamaha all make 16 channel mixers in an affordable price range.

The mixer only has 6 XLR inputs, so no, you cannot use all 7 mics, only 6. I use the same mixer, but route my kick drum mic into the bands larger mixer separately, then the stage right mixer's output into a second input on the band mixer. so all 7 drum mics use 2 inputs on the bands big mixer.

Although not recommended, you could use a female XLR to 1/4 inch cable and use channel 7 or 8 for the 7th microphone Keep in mind the over head / condenser microphones will require 48v phantom power so it cannot be used on channel 7/8

I bought another 10 channel mixer which I output stereo to my first mixer as stereo on one of the line-in channels. Or you could get some little 4 channel mixers but your panning left and right would be dependent on your PA.

Is the snare mic a different model than the toms? Is there a tom mic specified for the floor tom? or are they all 4 the same? Why do some photos show round screens and others show flat head screens?
Judson
on Feb 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The snare Mic mesh is more rounded then the tom mics so you can tell which one goes with the snare but the 3 tom mics are all the same. The floor Mic is much larger and heavier and will need a decent drum Mic stand to hold the weight.

There is one with a round head (snare) and 3 with a flat head (toms). They all seem to have the same frequency response. I believe the round head is just to indicate it was intended for snare.

Monoprice 8-Channel Audio Mixer with USB
BEST ANSWER: No. This mixer has 4 mic inputs that can take EITHER 1/4” TRS or XLR cables. The 1/4” inputs are line inputs and not set up for paralleling mics with the XLR ins. You could, however use 2 of these mixers and cascade them using the line in/outs.

Great...period!
I purchased these mainly because they were inexpensive. It's been over a year, and I finally broke them out at a gig not knowing what to expect. I was amazed at the results, BIG, POWERFUL, yet even captured the intricacies in low volume dynamics. Best money I ever spent on a budget mic system, very happy with SR gear!

WOW! this kit is so affordable and the sound quality is great!
I purchased a Shure speaker set before in excess of $650 with similar results. But this kit includes everything you need to mic a standard drum set at a fraction of that cost. The microphones are rugged and the condenser mics are really nice. Easy to install and very affordable.

The Little Mics That Could.
Got these over the summer of 2021 for some gigs I had coming up. I ended up leaving the band and they sat for 6 mos. I put them to test finally a couple of weeks ago. It was an outdoor gig. I wasn?t drumming, I was mixing as a favor and my friend asked to borrow my mics. We put them to use. They did great. Had no problems with them at all and they got the drums into the mix real good. The drums sounded great. I was impressed indeed.
Pros:
Very attractive carrying case that is padded and protects the set nicely. It?s not a flight case but looks like one. Build quality is good.
The mics are of good build quality and have weight to them. They feel very solid.
The mics look nice and look like professional mics. The mounts are ok, similar to a generic mount from another company and I?ve used these type of mounts before. People complain about them but I never had any issues with the functionality and they hold the mics in place solidly
They sound way more expensive than they actually cost. I paid a little less than the price listed as I caught a sale and there is no way I would believe that I got all this quality for that little bit of money. Excellent value.
Are there better microphones? Yes. Of course and you pay a premium price for those other mics. These are modeled after some popular drum mics and I would put them up against the original name brand. I would put them up against the mics in sound quality, build quality, appearance and durability. These do not feel cheap nor do they look cheap and they don?t sound cheap.
If you are on a budget and need drum mics these are the set I would buy and recommend. If I were still running sound in clubs I would spring for another set without hesitation.

Solid microphones in a sturdy case. Excellent value for the price.
These mics feel solid/well-built. In testing them they function as I expected with good tonal quality. The connectors to the cable were well made and cables easily locked in. The snare and Tom mounts are all metal and a bit cumbersome compared to the flexible mounts that snap into place?but being metal they are not likely to rack or break. These mics replaced my previous digital reference set which did not have overhead mics and only 3 rim mounted mics and I needed 4. The quality is as good or better. I have gigged yet, we will see how they perform on stage in the near future.
