Is this wired series or parallel?
David E
on Mar 6, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Neither, actually. It is stereo, so there should be a common ground with a left and right signal wire from the male jack to each of the female jacks.

Neither. It’s an adapter to go from mini phono to rca. Not sure what you’re trying to do but that question is a head scratcher.

Does this cable separate R&L on the female side?
New User U

BEST ANSWER: No, this cable does not separate the L and R tracks. On the contrary, it seems to combining stereo (male side input) and outputs to a mono out on the female side. Not what I was expecting either :(.

If you are looking for right and left mono to a Stereo plug then no. This is 2 stereo female jacks to a single stereo male plug.

Would this work to connect a headset (audio & microphone) to my cell phone?

BEST ANSWER: Hello, thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately this adapter will not allow you to do that. I would check with your phone manufacturer to get the proper adapter. I hope this helps, thank you!

You will notice that a headset has four contacts on the end of the connector. This splitter is for 3-contacts (right, left, and common/ground).

The FEMALE plugs on this adapter look to be very close together. Are you able to plug 2 of your "premium" 3.5mm to RCA cables into this without them interfering with each other (I'm talking about Product ID: 5597)? That is the problem I have with my current splitter - the premium cables are so thick at the plug they push against each other. Thanks in advance!

I would like to use this to connect 2 different output sources to a single speaker system. The input would not work at the same time. is this possible, anyone try this?
A shopper
on Jul 29, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Normally an output source is female. So you would need 2 male to 1 female. The female side will need a plug with a pigtail to connect to your speaker, if it does not have a 3.5mm input jack.

Yes it will work - only if you use ONE at a time. Otherwise you will fry your sources if you use BOTH at the same time. Good luck.

Seems to work nicely for its intended purpose but I've since went to a different digital solution. If another way isn't available this works nicely though.

Does the job
This is a fairly "heavy" implementation of a splitter. In other words, it's not super flexible, and it's not light-weight. I'm guessing that's mostly the insulation on the wire, since the wires in this are almost certainly of a small gauge (i.e. a high gauge number).
Seems to be well built. I've had a number of other splitters fail over the years, but no failure with this one so far, so that's a plus.

Didn't Work
I bought this splitter just before leaving on a long trip, so my wife and I could watch movies together on an iPad. It was a replacement for one I had for years but recently lost. I didn't have a chance to try it before leaving and, unfortunately, it didn't work. My headphones worked fine, but my wife's earphones didn't work at all. Her earphones worked fine directly connected to the iPad, but through the splitter, whether there was another set attached to the splitter or not, there was nothing coming through to her earphones.
I have bought many products from Monoprice over the years and have been a big fan of their performance and value, so I'm very disappointed that this one simply didn't work. I don't know if there is an impedance mismatch or if just this one is a faulty unit, but I can't recommend it at all.

Impressed
These are well made. They're a little thick and not flimsy wire. The cable is going to last me a long time. Well worth the price.

Really Good Product
The only thing with it is, it's heavy and best used as an in-line connector. If you use it directly to the output of a laptop, you will eventually break your jack. Otherwise, it suits my needs perfectly. Thank you MONOPRICE!

Very nice!
There is not much to say here. It's a 1/8" splitter, so you can use 2 sets of headphones from a single headphone jack.
The NICE thing to point out, is the excellent quality of this thick cable.
So, be careful with lightweight headphone jacks. This is a durable cable with a bit of weight.
I use it for another purpose besides headphones now, but I originally bought it to split a headphone jack into dual outputs
