Can I use this cable to connect my preamp output to headphone input?

BEST ANSWER: I use this cable to connect my iPhone to my studio sound system so I can rehearse along with recordings of songs through Spotify. The small 3.5 mm connector is a male It would require some kind of female to female adapter to connect to the male headphone connector. Either or 3.5 mm female to quarter inch female adapter or 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm female to female adapter would make it work. If you have some sort of patchbay It could be used in that instance easy enough.

You probably want want RCA Male to Female 3.5mm slot for your headphones to plug into? Unless you have a female 3.5mm slot on your headphones. Keep in mind your preamp output may not be able to drive your headphones.

This is a long (25 foot) cab;e. If your Preamp has rca female jacks (common) and your head Phone input is a female 3.5 mm jack (common) it should work.

In general yes but check your headphone input. If headphone input is TRRS you will need a TRS to TRRS adapter. iPhone is TRRS for example.

You will probably need an amplifier to drive the headphones. Also, the preamp output may not have a volume control.

Can I replace the plug and solder on a 1/4" plug? I'm using an adapter but would rather remove it from the connection

BEST ANSWER: Of course-- it's your cable, cut off whatever you want. It's a standard cable and no different to solder on a 1/4" plug than any other. However, if that's your end goal you'd probably be better off simply buying raw cable and soldering on the RCA plugs as well.

Are the RCA housings of this cable really 15mm in diameter? The RCA housings of my current cable are around 12 mm in diameter. When plugged in, there's a 1 to 2 mm gap between the RCA housings, so I'm worried that two 15mm housings will not fit side by side when plugged in.

Works as expected, fair price
I'm using this to connect PC audio to a stereo 15' away, running it around the perimeter of my office. While BT would have served as well, I think a wired connection is easier to manage and is more flexible-- I can quickly shift the 3.5mm plug to my phone, tablet, etc. to change sources. Cable is typical MP quality, no issues at all and 1/2 the price of competitors'.
