How is this really any different to a cat5e jack - both cat 5 & 6 have the same pin-out?
Michael M
on Dec 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: cat5, cat5e, and cat6 are all different standards with different wire gages, insulation material and cat6 has a riser spine in all versions. A cat6 jack can be used with 5 or 5e but in general they are meant for cat6 wire. thicker terminals for thicker wire so the wires may not stay terminated properly if there is a lot of movement. In my home I have some cat6 ports terminating cat5e wiring but it is used only because it's what I had on hand, in a place that isn't used often.
if you can, use cat6 wire, terminals and ends. it is much better than 5e in the long term.

The cables are what makes the difference. A cat5e cable is a gigabit cable, but a cat6 carries gigabit over longer distance than a 5e. If you use the same config of wires punched in, on both ends of the wire, you are good.

Its different because of the cable that is hooked up to it. Cat 6 has a faster speed then cat 5.

Monoprice Cat6 Punch Down Keystone Jack - White

Monoprice Wall Plate for Keystone, 1 Hole - White

Monoprice Wall Plate for Keystone, 2 Hole - White
BEST ANSWER: The cable, jack and wall plate(s) will all play together nicely. One thing to note. This particular jack does not provide a ground tongue. So, if you use the shielded CAT6 cable you will not be able to terminate the ground lead onto this jack. You will need a CAT6 jack that supports shielding/grounding. If you don't care about connecting the ground - then you're good to go.

Does this Punch Down Jack work fine with Solid Ethernet cables or just stranded?
Mohammad M
on Feb 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Actually, I have never seen a jack for stranded. They make crimp on ends for stranded, but inside the wall cabling and terminations are always solid. If you must use stranded cable in the wall, look for a pass through plate or one that the RJ45 end clips in on the back and front.

Monoprice FLEXboot Cat6 Ethernet Patch Cable - Snagless RJ45, Stranded, 550MHz, UTP, Pure Bare Copper Wire, 24AWG, 50ft, Blue
BEST ANSWER: Yes/ however you may want to invest in a 1000' spool of solid copper twisted non stranded for ease of installation. I would not cut these very nice molded ends off.
I leave ablot 4-7' hanging out the hole in the face plate and do not cuts the ends.

There is no difference in the cable than what's on a spool, just factory terminated instead of on a spool. Patch away.

Can you explain the two rows (A and B) of colored pinouts on the keystone? I'm primary concerned about the side with orange, orange-white, green, and green-white as their pinouts are different depending on the row. Which one should I use to run a Cat5e cable through a wall and then use keystones in wallplates--the A or B row? Is one row for a cross-over and the other row for a pass-through? Thanks

Not like they used to be
These used to be great jacks. The latest batch I received has the same item number on the bags, but is not the product that is currently pictured as of 1/11/2021. The ones I received don't have any strain relief at all (no slot at the back, and no cable tie, and no other strain relief system). They look like they will punch down well, but I need these jacks to have the strain relief in my application, so these are basically useless to me.

Well over 500 installed
Installed a ton of these. After trying these, while I assumed would be junk jacks because they were way cheaper. I find them to be equal to if not better then the several main brand others I have tried over the years. I have had zero bad jacks out of at least 500 installs, probably over 1000.

It is the same PID number that we always order. We can't install this at our clients next to other jacks. As the title says we are very disappointed!

I didn't have a punch down tool. Punched the cat6 cable with the back of my utility knife blade and it worked like a breeze. I am not sure if that is ideal way to do it but it worked out well for me. The quality seems good. It also comes with little covers and a tiny cable tie.
