An easy way to remember is, "the larger the number , the smaller the wire." So this 16AWG is a thicker, heavier wire per conductor when compared to 18AWG.

Will this cord work on outdoor fountain ?

BEST ANSWER: NO, it is not. Big BLACK BOLD letters states this on the label: DO NOT USE WHEN WET.
Also, the cord is not marked for outdoor use, so that means it is for indoor use only, per the label on the cord.

It should be fine for a small fountain in wet conditions. Outer cord covering is moderately thick and should be protected from wear and the elements.
