I purchased this so that I could connect an older monitor without an HDMI or Displayport connection to a new docking station that only has HDMI and Displayport. This adapter allows me to use the monitor while still preserving the original resolution and framerate. The DVI end has to be wider than the Displayport end, so you can't plug two of these in side-by-side to the dock, but fortunately I only needed 1.

Awesome cost effective way to refrain from replacing monitors when your new desktop only has a couple dislplay ports and a vga.

The one with a short cable is probably more durable and easier to fit in weird places, but as it is this works just fine.

I purchased a couple of these and the adapter really sticks out a great deal. you hit the computer at all and the image drops and you need to take out and reinsert the adapter. It's very loose. I feel like I dont hit it and it also loses the image. I would not recommend.
