Does the joystick come with a 4-direction gate or 8-direction gate?
Enrique S
on Sep 23, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Both. This is a standard Sanwa gate, which is square in its default configuration. Because diagonal inputs can be reached, this is an “8-way” gate. Standard Sanwa gates can be rotated 45 degrees in a diamond orientation to prevent diagonal inputs. In this orientation it is “4-way.”

Can I swap out the PCB inside the stick for another PCB?
New User U
on Nov 29, 2022
BEST ANSWER: It depends on your level of knowledge and experience working with PCBs. It would be very challenging because of the several buttons and sliders on the top panel of the stick.

Can't go Wrong
Fantastic. Quality feels great and works with a ton of systems. Not sure what more you could want.
Not just great for fighters but the most fun way to play classic Beat 'em ups.

Save your money
Was excited to get this but the arcade stick did not work. I followed the directions to use on the Xbox one, but it did not work. All I could do is display and dismiss the guide menu by pressing the home button. Navigating the menus was not possible with the joystick and the buttons did nothing.

Great Fightstick Product
Great product and great value for money. Particularly, if you want a decent fightstick and own multiple modern consoles. Using a fightstick really improves the game experience in beat em ups, schmups and platformers.

Save your money, look elsewhere
I purchased this a few weeks ago (March 2023). Finally had the chance to test it out. Used it in Killer Instinct 1 for Xbox Series X arcade.
I've won tournaments with a super nintendo controller on KI1. I'll admit, that was decades ago and I am out of practice. I thought I would test out the arcade stick.
It was mostly easy to connect it to the console... didn't realize I would have to be going through the Xbox controller but I guess we have to do what we have to do.
For the controlling part, I am not impressed. The stick part is way too loose. Half back and half forward motions cause my character to jump, quarterback down motions are very difficult to get off with this stick. Again, I think the stick part is waaaaay too loose. I'm not inclined to take this apart to switch out the gateway or anything so I am just going to return this and just not play games that require fighting sticks until something better comes around.
If you're a techie and are familiar with, and know how to change out arcade parts, then from what I've read, this stick could be a gem hidden in the weeds... but again, out of the box, I would avoid if you need absolute precise motions.
Another flaw I just remembered was when I was jumping back away from the enemy, NOT pressing any of the punch or kick buttons and ONLY using the stick, my character would sometimes kick...... so again, I don't need these complications. Back it goes.

The Best Fight Stick for the Money!
Nothing comparable at this price point! Full Sanwa Buttons and Lever, Vewlix layout, excellent build and design (looks amazing!), low latency, perfect weight, highly moddable/customizable, compatibility with a ton of platforms out of the box, and did I mention the price??
Can't fault it at this price (or any price really.) and it's a real winner.
Side note; Street Fighter 6 can't come out soon enough!

I love this fightstick
I got my first one from Monoprice's ebay page, then bought a second one used (like new) and finally a third through their website.
Here are its strengths:
1. Good parts.
Sanwa Joystick, balltop, gate, shaft cover, and eight Sanwa buttons would run you about $47+ if you were to just buy the parts to put them in a homemade case, or upgrade a generic stick you already own. The rest of the case/PCB is good value on its own.
2. Easy to swap out buttons and stick parts, up to a point.
The case is big enough to accommodate a Seimitsu lever easily. I have not tested for Korean levers but the mounting plate does not come with horizontal mount screws and the lever hole in the top plate is not big enough for most K Levers. Out of the box I believe they will not fit. But that leads to the next strength!
3. Removable top plate for more intense modding. Beneath the plexiglass is a layer of sheet metal. It is removable using the provided screwdriver. This means that if you can find or create a plate and plexi with an all-button layout or a Sega 2P or Noir layout, you can change it from an ordinary viewlix. Perhaps one day popular arcade parts stores will start selling pre-fabricated metal plates for advanced customization. Lots of opportunity for this stick! However, wide stick layouts will probably require some plastic to be removed from the enclosure.
4. Easy to make new art. The button labels are printed directly on the back side of the plexiglass, making for easy identification of buttons even after new art is installed.
5. Wide system compatibility. This works great with Nintendo Switch and PC without needed a passthrough. The fact that it can do PS4 in a pinch is an added bonus. The passthrough function works great with Dualshock 4 controllers. I needed to refer to the user's manual but after you know how to do it, it is not complicated.
6. The PCB. For serious hobbyists or people learning how to mod or pad hack, this stick has a PCB with a nice wide open layout, very spread out connections, and plenty of room to try things. The PCB is tucked out of the way, directly beneath the control panel buttons in a place where it won't accidentally get bumped or touched. But the entire stick can be disassembled with the included screwdriver plus a long narrow Phillips driver and a precision Phillips screw bit. Once the case comes apart, it needs to be opened like a book so that the connectors on the USB passthrough are not disturbed. Each component is wired to the PCB with a JST connector and a strip of adhesive tape. This thing WILL NOT come apart by mistake. Very well constructed, but it is also accessible and mod ready for people who want to pad hack or install a brook board. The aux panel buttons are switches laid directly into the board, with lots of space on either side. Hypothetically this should make it a very easy board to solder on. A small space between the main cavity of the enclosure and the PCB cavity allows clearance for cables to pass through, meaning that (again hypothetically) you can solder wires to your control panel buttons and run those in the same direction. There is space in the sides of the enclosure which should be big enough to accommodate most Brook boards.
