Would it be ok to use a desktop that is 74 inches wide? It says the maximum is 70.9 inches but I'm not sure if that's a strict limit?

BEST ANSWER: I would think so, provided you don't exceed the weight limit and you're comfortable with a little overhang on the sides. The maximum width is determined by how wide the frame can go, but I don't think there is any harm if you end up with an extra 2" of desk on either side of the frame.

Nothing will prevent you from screwing the frame to an oversized surface. I have a 59x32" surface, and with a 4inch gap between all edges it is extremely stable. Being over by a 2 more inches on each edge is probably not a problem. You should double check that the total weight of your surface and what you plan to use it for does not exceed the frame's weight limit. You're likely fine.

It's more of a weight restriction than one of size. When you start to have things going out past their recommendations, you might notice the motors in the legs bog down a bit when lifting. Shear weight (the combined weight of the object and gravity, past the point of attachment) is a thing.

It’s not a strict limit, you can bolt whatever size desk you want on top.

The prop 65 warning indicates possible exposure to Pentaerythritol Dibromide. Is this substance contained (in a closed gearbox or such) or is it something the user would be really exposed to?

BEST ANSWER: It’s likely from the rigid foam that is packed around the desk to secure it. Don’t eat it and you should be fine.

Where can I find directions on how to set up the pre-set heights?

BEST ANSWER: The manufacturer wanted to keep it a secret, so they cleverly hid the information in the user's manual. They know very few people read it.
:-)
You will find a link to the user's manual in the "Description" tab under "Support Files".

Can the legs be adjusted to different heights during setup by only powering one side? This is to account for an riser (elevated platform) in my floor.

Wobbles a lot
It has been close to 2 months that I have been using this desk frame. For my day to day, I feel like this desk wobbles a lot when I am moving my mouse around and it is very distracting.

Love my desk!
I love my sit/stand desk! I easily saved half the cost of buying a complete name brand setup by using these legs and motors to build my own. I was able to purchase a butcher block top from Floor & Decor to sand stain and seal. I'm thrilled with how it turned out!

So good I bought Two
I've been using a stand-up desk for the past 7 years. When the motor failed on the last unit I decided to get another stand-up desk. I didn't realize that I could buy just the legs and save/reuse the old top. Looking at the specs from Monoprice this unit has dual motors and memory function so I decided to give it a shot. Installation was pretty simple and straightforward IF you're mechanically inclined.
I liked it so much that I also modified my wife's desk as well so now we both have stand-up desks for our home office using these Monoprice dual motor legs..

Desk conversion worked out great
I converted my large rolling office desk at work into a standing desk. It's exactly what I needed for both productivity and physical health. I'm an Industrial Designer that needed to do more than sit all day at a desk while drawing and creating 3D CAD. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Great standing desk but...
This desk is mechanically sound, seems extremely well built, smooth motor functions, and all other features work as expected. Comes with all hardware necessary to assemble of course and mount a desktop, though any material 1/2" or less you will need to be very careful to not over tighten and puncture the desktop. I purchased this in Dec 2022 for 224.99.
At the current price, I would hesitate to purchase again, as 300 is now on the cusp of other well-built standing desks WITH desktop from other vendors.

Fantastic frame!
The frame is heavy, which means it's very stable. The dual motors provides a very comfortable weight limit, so I don't have to worry about overloading it. The motors are very quiet and reasonably fast. The interface for the position memory is intuitive. And I love the built in timer that reminds me to change positions periodically.
