is this cable certified to run in the wall ?
A shopper
on Oct 29, 2021
BEST ANSWER: It does not.
CMP Plenum rated will be available early next year.
We have in-wall rated 8k Certified at shorter lengths, part numbers 42676 or 42684
If 4k HDR support is acceptable, we have that available in CMP Plenum in various lengths, part number 27392.
Thanks!

It is not. As of just a few weeks ago, Monoprice didn't offer a in-wall cable in longer lengths of the certified 2.1 ultra variety.

I can not confirm because my projector does not support HDR+10. It does work fine from a 4K Apple tv to my projector. Cables are directional.

This is a directional cable, correct? If so, which end would I plug into my AVR and which end into the TV if using ARC?

Is this the same cable that is planned to be CMP Plenum rated early next year, or will changes be made to it so that it qualifies for the CL2/CL3 rating and a new product number will be released?

Is this a better cable/newer version than the 388xx series? I’ve noticed my 40-ft 38828 gets hot and I’m no where near even 18Gbps datarate.

How/why can't it not support Dolby Vision?
A shopper
on Apr 3, 2026
BEST ANSWER: Hello, and thank you for your question. This cable should support Dolby Vision based on the 8K@60Hz, 4K@120Hz, and 48Gbps specs. As long as your source device and television also support Dolby Vision, then this cable should support it.

Which side do I plug into the TV and which side to an AVR if using this cable connected to the TV’s ARC port?
timmerk

I assume this cable needs power from the port. On the Source End? On the Destination End? Will all HDMI 2.1 ports provide the required power because the HDMI standard requires it? Or do I need something in between to provide power? The destination is an LG OLEDC1. Some of the sources are HDMI 2.0 (which don't need 8K), but I'm buying the cables to allow upgrade later. Will the HDMI 2.0 port provide sufficient power?

Tim N (Staff) indicated in Oct 2021 that Monoprice would have an in-wall rated certified Ultra High Speed HDMI cable in longer lengths (30+ ft) available "early next year". That would seem to be now, but still don't see such a cable on your site. When do you think you will have this cable available?

6 month review
I've been using this HDMI cable for about 6 months. I bought the 34-foot wire, which turned out to be perfect for my installation. I decided to run the wire in the wall behind my desk, up through the attic, and down into the utility closet where I have my computers running. The wire powers an ultrawide monitor with a 75Hz refresh rate, and I have found absolutely no issues with it. I chose an active cable because I know that HDMI 2 and 2.1 have very limited lengths that certified and reliable cables can run, and a fiber optic cable ensures that signal degradation will not impede the picture quality or reliability. This cable has been perfect, and I will likely purchase more cables as my setup grows into different rooms of my house. One note to realize is that this cable is directional, meaning that you have to use one end of the cable in the source and one in the display---the cable cannot be reversed. It will also pass through a 1" hole in the head board inside the wall.

Worked fine with 4k over 32 fot cable.
Our new 4k DVD player would not connect to our Sony 4k projector over the cable we had been using for years. Switching to this cable solved the problem immediately.

Finally, a cable that works!
I went through 3 cables before landing on this one that actually functions for the configuration I want. I have an RTX4070 that I want to use to drive a TV from across the room, and it's about a 30ft cable run.
Initially, I had gotten a 35' HDMI 2.1 cable (regular copper), it would intermittently get 4k120, but would drop the signal every so often while gaming (90-120 seconds and black out for half a second or longer). Getting the GPU to negotiate the 120Hz signal was also inconsistent.
Fine, got rid of that cable, and tried an active, optical, 50' (shortest length available) HDMI 2.1 cable from Unitek. It would negotiate 4k120, but my TV would not render a signal when requesting 4k120, only backing down to 4k60 would give me a picture on the screen. I thought maybe it's defective and tried again, no dice, same deal.
In the end, I came across monoprice's offering, where it's "certified" to be able to do 8k60 and 4k120. Fine, spent a little more (price per foot). Just ran the cable, and fired up the picture, 4k120, negotiates instantly, shows a picture instantly. Boom. It works!
If you want to be sure to get the 8k60 or 4k120 signal, get this cable! Anything else and it might or might not work for you.

Very Happy with product and Tech support from Katrina
I was referred to your company by a friend. I purchased 4 6' Ultra high-Speed HDMI cables for a new system I set up. At first I had an issue with how they were working and was not getting any help from my service provider. I got in touch with Monoprice support and was connected with Katrina B. I was so glad. She was able to help me and walk me through all the issues I was having. The cables are working better than I expected and am very happy. I hope all your support personnel are as qualified and understand as Katrina is. I will not think twice about using any of your products in the future. Thank you.
