Is the specified height of 18" to the bottom of the base without the spike or does it include the length of the spike? What is the length of the spike?

BEST ANSWER: I just checked. It’s definitely without the spikes. And FYI, the spikes are removable and adjustable by about 1/2”.

I can't use the spikes because the stands will be on hard wood floors. I'd like to find a screw-in footer to use instead. Does anyone know the size screw of the spikes? Thanks.

Can the top plates be drilled as my speakers' terminals stick out from the bottom?
A shopper
on Mar 16, 2026
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your inquiry. Drilling the top plates of the speaker stand is not recommended. While it might be technically possible, doing so could compromise the stand's structure and void the unit's warranty. Instead of modifying the stands, you can use a common and highly effective accessory called Blu Tack. I hope this helps

Are the bottom and top plates also steel?

I want to use this Monolith steel stand for a horizontal center channel speaker using the top plate adjusting screws to give a 5 degree angle. The speaker is 14” depth. If the speaker is set with the front aligned with the front of the plate, the back will overhang 2” and rest on just the edge of the plate. Will that be secure and acoustically coupled to the stand?

Exceeded Expectations
I ordered a pair of the 18" version of this speaker stand direct from this site. They arrived on schedule and intact, which follows from the professional packaging approach used. These stands are attractive and simple in design and look good in flat black. The finish appears robust and relatively scratch resistant in some kind of powder coat. The stands use heavy gauge metal manufactured to above average tolerances, and they fulfilled my strength expectations to support a pair of Klipsch KG 4.2 floor standing speakers that weigh 45 lbs. each (31" x 14" x 12"). I was impressed with the packaging of screws, bolts, etc., in alphabetically coded plastic compartments-which made assembly easier. Assembly instructions are pretty spartan but the component illustration plus labeled parts make it do-able (you will need a Philips head screwdriver in addition to the supplied Allen wrench.)
Overall, I am very satisfied with the product quality, and I found the price very reasonable--and free shipping was a bonus!

Good stand
Almost perfect fit for my speakers. I didn't use the spikes. I ended up buying some screw in M8 feet (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C6JZMBS2?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1). The stand went together easily. It is heavy enough and stable enough that I don't think I need to fill it.

Great stands!
I received and put together the stands today. They look good, are very high quality and will accommodate my very large bookshelf speakers. My only concern is that spikes were supplied but not some sort of footers that would work on hard wood floors. Putting discs under the spikes won't work because I frequently move the speakers and stands. In my experience, when speakers on spikes are moved, the spikes easily jump off the discs. I've submitted a question to find out the screw size on the spikes, but it's a hefty screw, and I don't know how easy it will be to get a footer with the right screw size. I may be forced to put adhesive felt strips under the stands. That works but isn't optimal.

18in Steel Speaker Stand
Work perfectly for my over 40 lb. JBL's. Well made. Sturdy steel bottom plate. Would love to see some rubber footers for the bottom plate. Probably wouldn't go over 50 lbs. with these stands. The top plate is perfect for a large speaker and they're nicely adjustable to angle the speakers up.. Well packed too. All in all, very satisfied.

Monoprice 18in Steel Speaker Stand
Large top plate. Sturdy. Comes in various heights - 18" is good for my speakers. Can fill with sand or small pebbles, but have not yet tried. Pleased with quality for price.

Fantastic value
Solid but just a tad less rigid than the four post design. Overall, another highly recommended product.
