Some people that purchased this sub stated it has an audible hum. Has this problem been fixed?
A shopper
on Mar 4, 2023
BEST ANSWER: I got mine in January and it had an audible hum when I had it near other equipment. When I isolated it and the wires to it, it went away. However, if I leave it on without the auto off function for many hours without being used, it will sometimes develop a hum. All I have to do to get rid of it is to turn it off and back on again and the hum is gone. For the sound and value, it is worth dealing with it every once in a while. The reason that I don't use the auto function all of the time is that if I am listening at very low levels, it will sometimes not kick on but otherwise, works perfectly.

Have been using this subwoofer in a professional editing environment since December. We have noticed NO audible hum whatsoever. Sometimes, the "hum" can be a result of various factors other than the subwoofer itself. Ground loops (google it), induced noise from nearby electrical or video cables, etc. That being said, if you completely isolate and unhook your subwoofer from your audio source, does it still hum? If so, the sub is likely the issue. Hope this helps.

my monoprice model # 41497 has a constant low hum when idling. can someone tell me whats that?

on Feb 28, 2024
BEST ANSWER: my unit is as quiet as a church mouse , works perfectly , however in your case there are a few things that can cause this problem. first thing and easiest is to check your cables , and replace them with cable you know to be good , also check your power plug in cable, (120 volt ) into the unit make sure of a tight fit , a transfer cable that over time becomes weak or does not carry the complete signal can cause this issue, so further a sub hum can also be caused by another component, ( receiver , pre amp etc ) you might want to preform a trail and error to localize the issue.after all of this if nothing seems to work then, its is a possibility that the sum amp can be the problem , so if you have access to another sub pug it in and see if the problem is remains. hope i helped good luck

What does Monoprice recommend to connect the MM-5 speakers to the SW-10 subwoofer? The MM-5 master speaker has a single RCA jack and the SW-10 subwoofer has a left and right input jack. Thank you.

I use my subwoofer for surroundsound. If you have that option also in the back of your Stereo it will have an option for a single Jack or a left and right Jack. If you want to use a single Jack you can buy from Monoprice an adapter where you plug in the left and right into one end of the adapter and then on the other is the single Jack that you can plug-in.

This sub has its own built-in power amp, so your amp capabilities don't matter - just need a line output - ideally variable.

BEST ANSWER: I hooked both the sub and the speakers to my amp speaker a terminals. So 2 sets of wires to each terminal. Wiring all to the same terminals sounded the better with my amp than wiring to the sub and then to the speakers but I can't speak for your amp/speakers.

No. I assume your receiver's sub pre-out is an RCA type connection, correct? If so, all you need is an RCA type subwoofer cable. You would connect it the the Left input RCA on the back of the sub, it's labeled LFE and then connect to the pre-out subwoofer connection to your receiver.

What is the input impedance of the RCA jacks? For that matter, what's the impedance of the speaker level terminals?

BEST ANSWER: It shouldn't matter very much as this is a powered subwoofer that doesn't put much additional strain on your amp. I run this with an amp that cannot be used for under 8 ohms and have had no issues when using 8 ohm speakers.

Sub has a really loud hum. Any solutions or send it back ?
A shopper
on Nov 22, 2023
BEST ANSWER: If your subwoofer is producing a loud hum, there could be several possible solutions depending on the specific cause of the issue.
-Ensure that all cables connecting the subwoofer to the audio source or amplifier are securely plugged in. Loose or faulty connections can sometimes cause humming noises.
-Try using different cables to rule out any issues with the existing ones.
-Make sure the subwoofer is properly grounded and connected to a stable power source. Electrical issues can sometimes cause humming sounds.
-Consider plugging the subwoofer into a different power outlet to see if the hum persists.
-Keep the subwoofer away from other electronic devices that may be causing interference. This includes devices like routers, wireless speakers, or other audio equipment.
-Try moving the subwoofer to a different location in the room to see if the hum changes or disappears.

Great Value Subwoofer.
I highly recommend. Pros: Power, aesthetics/looks, Price to Performance, warmth and blend ability. Cons: fuzzy sounding with detail but not overly detailed bass, large for a 10' sub, auto pause function is terrible, no output via RCA Y splitter.
This is a great value subwoofer with very good sound. The cabinet is beautiful as I prefer a more modern look, as opposed to a wood grain cabinet. Connections on the back are plentiful. Couldn't have been happier on Black Friday, Cyber Monday weekend. You will hear this subwoofer when located in other rooms. Adds that warm bass to a 2.1 system if you blend the sound and use an equalizer. A great buy for someone willing to take the time to optimize for a balanced overall sound.
