Totally depends on how big your room is and what you are looking for. I got this a few months ago and I have to say this is shaking my whole house. Both are 2000 watt but driver size is different along with slight difference in frequency response.
This might look small in the picture but it is huge and weigh 150 lbs, so moving it is going to be hard.
Performance wise 16inch might perform better because of the driver size but for me this model is good enough to give a feeling of earthquake shaking your house. After adding this subwoofer my whole music system started sounding like a AMC dolby theater

If you have the money for the 16 inch, I'd go for it. But if you have an average size room like I do you'll need plenty happy with the 13 inch, they both have the same wattage, but I do understand the 16 gets a little lower. I have read reviews that say if a person needs more bass after getting the 13 inch Monolith they have mental issues. I concede I may have issues, because I do plan on buying another 13 inch Monolith because feeling the impact of movies to me is the only way to watch them. The extra is not really to add anymore bass, it's to keep the tactile bass even throughout the listening area.

I bought the 13 and honestly the thing is an utter beast. I have it set up in the basement at my house and the bass travels throughout the entire house. Our kitchen us upstairs and opposite of its current placement and it will still shake dishes in the dish rack. The enclosure alone is way bigger then you would expect and it has a quality build behind it

I personally would get the 16 if you have the budget but not because the 13 is not super impressive. But your asking a bass head. I bought 2 13’s and they tear up the door frames on my house. I will buy 16’s later to supplement they just went available when I bought the 13’s. Hope this confuses you on your decision! Lol

So, I had the same question and I’m really happy with the 13. It’s pretty amazing and I honestly would not any more.
I have a dedicated 20 x 24 media room. Yes… the bass can rumble your shoes and walls, but it’s really the quality and crispness of this sub that I really enjoy.

Enter an answer to this question. if you're OK with the slight price increase and the extra weight and size go ahead and spend the extra on the 16 it has more output that's will probably play louder easier as well that would be my recommendation

Yes, very similar to SVS, which is a good thing. Where they differ is the price.
I have a THX10 and I love it. It's 80+ lbs so I can only imagine how solid this thing is.
IMO, these are far better built than the similar tier of SVS subs.

What is the point of buying this one over the 15 inch version because this one takes up more space than the 15 inch and doesnt get as low with higher distortion ratings. The extra 1000 watts is only going to get you a few more db's so i really cant understand why you would prefer the 13 over the 15.?

Giant sub, giant sound. Pressurizes my room!
In short, this thing is thunderous. I've got a 20x20x10 theater room and was trying to decide between this or two of the other "well known" brand subs. After watching dozens of hours of reviews I went with this and couldn't be happier. It's MASSIVE. Sound quality is huge to match. Weighs over 150 pounds and has no problem filling my room with bass that you can feel. Honestly the most bass I've heard outside of a movie theater.

Product Performed as Promised
My experience with the product has been positive.
Positives:
* Easy to order on line.
* Plenty of reviews I could read and view, particularly the Youtube reviews by audio pros.
* Freight shipping by Fedex was problem-free.
* Used an unboxing video by another purchaser to guide me. Made unboxing very easy.
* Unit was very well packed to minimize probability of damage. Mine arrived in great condition.
* Setup of subwoofer was easy using the speaker calibration built into my Denon AVR-S940H receiver. I connected the RCA sub out on the receiver to a Y splitter, then into both RCA inputs on the sub.
* Sound quality is everything I expected: powerful, effortless, appropriate. In a word, accurate.
* Build quality appears to be very good.
* Unit is attractive, does not draw undue attention to itself, especially with the grill cover on.
* Love the magnetic grill cover attachment. It scared my wife with its firm grab.
Negatives:
* Can't find a link to the subwoofer manual on the Monoprice site, and none included in the box. But I found a link to the prior generation of THX Monolith subs, and that answered all my questions.
* Feet are small and short. Fingers can be pinched since there isn't much clearance. I added my own larger feet that have plastic furniture glides on the bottom. Makes positioning on carpet very easy.
Other Comments:
* Unit is very heavy. Use Egyptian boulder moving techniques (rolling rather than lifting) to preserve your body.
* Price seems high, but only on an absolute basis. Since high quality subs are not a mass market thing, supply and demand dictates a price that this unit probably does not exceed. If you really value good movie/music sound, then the price is worth it.
* For long term reliability, I probably will never push the sub to its limits, so I think the driver will hold up well over time. It appears to be really well designed. Less certain is the amp and other electronics. If they go out prematurely, then it's a hassle to send the unit back. Hope that doesn't happen. I kept the box and packing materials just in case.
Final Analysis: so far, I'm a happy customer. My hat is off to the engineers and assembly folks responsible.

G. O. A. T. subwoofer!
The review on this subwoofer can be summed up in three words:
Absolute
Effortless
Depth
I've been in consumer electronics retail for over 20 years (was a Store Manager with Circuit City for almost 10) and am intimately familiar with some fairly awesome subs (Velodyne, HSU, REL and SVS just to name a few) but when it came to selecting the foundation of my Home Theater their ended up being only one choice.
The Monolith line, and this THX Ultra model in particular have earned a reputation for truly unequaled performance at this price point.
I have it dual calibrated, first through my Denon AVR-988s Audessy 32 EQ then really dialed in using my Avia calibration DVD and an SPL meter.
The results are simply spectacular.
During the "introduction" of the Batmobile scene in The Batman my media room vibrates with each throttle punch and in Kong vs Godzilla every footstep can be FELT not just heard.
This is a truly reference level subwoofer and I am thrilled to be its owner.

Outstanding subwoofer
I purchased mine from Monoprice on E-bay because they cheaper at that time. I am 70yrs. old so I had to handle this 150 lbs. beast
carefully. I have never heard low end that sounded so clean and
does not distort at high levels. My caution to anyone purchasing
these is to replace the feet. They mark up floor and are not heavy duty enough for 150 lbs. Sub. I purchased six SVS isolater feet.
They come with 3 different sets of screws, I used 6 MM on mine.
Floor does not vibrate now and sounds cleaner.
