Are these able to be installed in drop tile ceiling or designed for dry wall use only?
    A shopper on Aug 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If you reinforced the particular drop ceiling tile with at least 1/4" plywood to prevent sagging over time it should work.
I have 4 Monoprice 4103 speakers. I would like to get this switch and an amplifier to drive them. Ideally I'd like to get a class D amp because the cabinet where speaker wire runs to is small. Any suggestions on what amplifier to use? Thanks.

How the grill is attached to the speaker ?
    Raul C on Mar 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: There are no screws used to attach the grill. The grill edge fits inside a grove that sits just inside the edge of the speaker. There is some black tar like substance (supplied with the speaker) that you can put on the grill before installing it into the grove to hold it more secure. We did not need to use it. The grill fit snug enough without it.
A little wire hook is also supplied so the grill can be removed if necessary.
What is the correct enclosure size for the 6.5" speakers? I going to put these in a home that is being built and have lot of room above in the ceiling. The studs are 24 inch on center for the ceiling. I am going to be using these for both 9.2.2 surround sound and whole home speakers in 5 zones. all of these will be mounted in the ceiling. There will be blown in insulation on top, so I want the speakers in boxes.
    A shopper on Apr 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi, so coming from a Audio speaker manufacturing and engineering background, that is a loaded question. There is a LOT of math that goes into enclosures and resonant frequencies, etc. If you build a box for them, the bass will definitely increase and you will protect the cones and crossovers from insulation. So on 24" centers, if you just build a 3 1/2" deep box for each from plywood, using the joists for the ends, that should suffice. little extra work, but will do the trick. We have installed these in Multi-million dollar homes, and honestly the difference between these and speakers costing 5-7 times more is negotiable, especially for surround as they just occasionally put out sound. For whole house background music, they're fine. Focus cost on front L&R and Center channel, preferably bookcase speakers. Monoprice has an amazing set designed for theatre. Monoprice Blackbird HDBaseT 5x1 Seamless Presentation Switch and Scaler with IR, RS232
BEST ANSWER: The Blackbird 4k Switcher/Scaler will not power your speakers. you will need a separate amplifier for that. Something like the Monoprice Unity 100-Watt Bridgeable Power Amp. It is available in 100watt & 200watt formats. Plan on needing 100 watts per pair of speakers. Iwould suggest a small audio mixer between the Blackbird 4k Switcher/Scaler and the amplifier to control the level of the source audio.
If you only have 2 speakers then the Monoprice Commercial Audio 120W 2ch Mixer Amp would be a inexpensive alternative. It is 60 watts per channel amplifier with left & right volume controls.
    Hope that helps.

    This or Caliber series speakers?
If my rooms have two speakers in the ceiling, meaning I don't need to run a single speaker in stereo, why would I choose this versus the Caliber series - 4103 or 4104 for instance? Which is the better option if I am going to have two speakers in the room already?

    Speaker modification
I'll start by saying this may not be for everyone.
I have an extensive background in custom car audio, worked in mobile audio engineering-tech, home theater installation and have modified many, many crossover networks.
These speakers are well built but the sound quality is lacking.
Upper mids are attenuated, at 3k-5k, as well as bass response below 150hz.
I was going to rebuild the crossovers, but settled on a fairly simple solution.
My testing was done with a 33 band RTA with pink noise as well as music.
Modify only the low-pass filter on the larger mid range speaker!
Cut one lead on the capacitor rendering it inoperable, bypass the coil with one short piece of wire soldered at the input of the coil to the output of the coil. This will totally bypass the lo-pass crossover. The highs in the mid range will now rolloff as a function
of the mids natural rolloff and the speaker's inductance.
    In my opinion............
Not elegant but the RTA curve and subjective sound quality were vastly improved.
This will not approach the inherent lack of bass, it can only be solved with the addition
of a dedicated low frequency driver.
There is now a slight bump at 3k-5k, a more lively sound.
I have had these speakers for 4 months running like this, no problems.
If done as prescribed, mod is totally reversible

    excellent buy
ok, I've read alot of the reviews on these speakers. Although, they were helpful but not givien in an audiophiles perspective. I am going to try and hope this answers audiophile questions.
    1st my system:
    speakers: B&W 603s3, LCR s3, 601s3, and Velodyne HGS 10.
components: Rotel 1066rsp processor, RMB985 amp, Sony 222es sacd, Panasonic 85 bluray player.
wires: Kimber Kable Hero connectors and Tara labs RSC Prime Bi-wired.
ok now that's out the way perhaps it gives a better understanding on my ears..lol
listening: 1st off these speakers need atleast 60hrs of break-in period, hi's sound crisp and bass sounds pretty good for a wall mount speaker what they lack is depth and a dynamic response. NOW i don't use these as my main speakers, I use these as my rear speakers for movies and they do the job well!
These speakers are excellent for home theatre use and as additional speakers to be put around the house as zones. The build quality is excellent and the installing them was a breeze. I highly recommend these speakers and you won't be disappointed!

    thanx MONOPRICE

PROS: easy to install, quality, and price!

    CONS: none

    compared with 3 way
Very good speakers. I bought 1 pair of these 6-1/2 Inches Kevlar 2-Way In-Ceiling Speakers. Then I bought a pair of the same 6-1/2 inch glass composite 3 way dual voice speakers to compare (about a $20 difference... either are a bargain.) I thought I would compare the two sets and then figure out which to buy more of for the rest of the house.

I hooked it up to A niles 1230 amplifier which is capable of setting each channel as L, R, or L-R. I compared one vs. the other both hooked up mono. I then set one to L and one to R and would raise and lower the volume between the two speakers. Both were very loud.

It is a very tough call. Im not an audiophile, but the 3 way seemed slightly fuller. The cheaper 2 way speakers seemed to have better highs. We kept playing both back and forth to try to determine which sounded the better if there was no difference in price and found it very difficult to decide. They are both excellent speakers and an excellent value. Im still not clear which sounds better. They just sound different, so I think Ill have to go with the 2 way for the rest of the house just because its less expensive.

    Excellent 6.5" speakers
I've had a set of these 6.5" (4103's) in a smallish room, and the 8" (4104's) in a large room for the last two years and both sound nothing short of amazing.

I just put a set or 4103/6.5" into another large room, and while they are just as well balanced and clear as the first set, my mistake was not going with the 8's for more room filling sound.

Luckily, that's the perfect excuse to put these 6.5's into a smaller area, and order 8's for the large room as I should have in the first place!

    Good value
Ceiling speakers are not the audiophile way to listen to music, but is sure is nice not to have to deal with all the cords. The speakers sound good, especially when paired with a subwoofer.

If there's a better value out there, I'm not sure where you'd find it.

PROS: affordable. Kevlar woofers. Silk dome tweets.

CONS: grill a little hard to get off. limited swivel on tweets.

have to buy 6 speakers for a 5.1 system.

Amazing speakers for the price! at $22.50 per speaker, you can't go wrong. kevlar cone, the same material used in my $3000 b&w speakers. The only complaint is the ridiculously small hole they give you to connect the speaker wire to. Considering these are going in-ceiling, you should be using 14 gauge wire, the wires have to be cut down to around an 18gauge width in order to fit. other than this bizarre design, these things rock!

Very satisfied by the product quality, the speakers where very easy to install and the sound quality is awesome. I recommend these speakers ! Shipping to Canada occurred without any glitch and had superb customer support from Monoprice.

PROS: Excellent product quality and sound is perfect for house rooms.

    Still sound crisp
I have a 5.1 setup using all these speakers with the exception of the the sub. I've had these in my ceiling now for close to 2 years and they still have no distortion and have not been blown. They sound great and look great. I've had buddies from work hear these and several of them also now have these speakers. You just can't beat not having speakers taking up floor space. I crank up my music all the time and play countless hours of Black Ops as well. These are a great value to anyone that may still be on the fence about these speakers.

    PROS: Cost and sound.

CONS: They didn't install by themselves?

Great Sound for the Price BUT Get the Right Gauge Wire
Ok, for construction/build and sound quality, these speakers are a 10. I used these as rear surround in a 5.1 setup for our small gameroom and the sound was crisp, precise and just how you would think a surround speaker should sound. So why did I rate these a 5? The speaker input jacks. They are tiny - really tiny. I did everything I could to get 14 gauge wire into the jacks, but no dice. I had to strip away 1/3rd of the wire to make it fit. Kind of defeats the purpose of buying the thicker gauge wire. If I would have known this from the get-go (This is only seen in customer reviews - not on product details or the instructions it came with), I would have opted to buy another brand/model that supports 14 gauge.

PROS: Great construction/build, excellent sound for the price.

CONS: No disclaimer on what gauge speaker wire to use.
