There are mounting hinges on the back, you cut the hole in the wall to the correct size (a cardboard template is included) then from the speaker remove the front mesh and this gives you access to the screws. Insert the speaker into the wall and tighten the screws to mount it in place. Place the mesh cover back on and DONE!!!
Super easy to install. I did about 8 speakers in an office within just a few hours.

Easy...if you can cut sheet rock, and attach wires your done. You dont need mounting parts. Comes with a template to cut the sheet rock hole. Use a stud finder to see where the wall studs are. You attach your speaker wires to the terminals on the speaker, pop it in the wall. Tighten the four screws in the speaker, which lock the speaker in place.

The brackets are included. Easy—That depends on your skill level at cutting an accurate hole and having nothing in the wall cavity (pipes/wires) to interfere. The actual mounting is easy enough—turning/tightening phillips head screws.

The answer is yes! The mounting tab are integral to the speaker housing. You simply flip the tabs behind the sheet rock or substrate you are mounting to and tighten the screws from the face of the speaker.

They are turn screws that have a plastic piece on the back to pinch the drywall (like a plastic electrical outlet box). It's easy, you just have to be a bit careful with them that you don't overturn them.

The mounting cams are part of the speaker itself. Make sure they are all straight up and down and slowly tighten the screws and they will tighten on the opening.

The mounting parts are built into the speaker. Basically there are some wings that twist behind the Sheetrock/wallboard to hold it in place.

Can these be mounted in ceiling instead of in-wall?
Connor M
on Aug 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I disagree with Gregory S., the attic would provide an "infinite' baffle (provided that there is not the floor of a living space above) making it excellent for bass response. A wall mounting location gives a shallow depth (wood stud is only 3-1/2") causing a great deal of mid-range reflection and the false illusion that the speaker is weak on bass. The only drawback of a ceiling mount is the bleed-over of sound into other rooms., but that would be much worse for a wall-mount installation where there is living space on the other side of a wall-mount speaker.

Yes. However, if you have a large attic space you may lose some sound quality. These speakers do not have a box behind them. The wall cavity becomes your speaker box.

Is there anything available to cover the back of the speakers to keep dust and insulation out when mounted in a ceiling?
Keith R
on Jan 10, 2019
Fiberglass batting itself woukd protect against dust infiltration. I suppose if you’re really concerned about it you could use plastic wrap or wrapped insilation, but you woukd likely compromise sound to some extent as they are meant to ‘breath’. They are easy to install and remove, so just experiment!

Will mounting these speakers horizontally (vs vertically) in a 5.1 surround setup have any affect on soundstage or sound quality?

on Sep 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Where are the rest of the speakers in your system going to be placed? I have a Dolby Atmos receiver so mounting speakers in the ceiling works good for that. So to answer your question the quality stays the same it's just a matter of where you want to hear the sound coming from. Do you want it coming from above down to you or circling around you. That's what has to be determined.

It probably will not matter much. The tweeter placement is most critical, so try to keep them in the most advantageous mosition for your system and room. I’d recommend “flipping” them tweeters in/tweeters out to see what sounds best. (I’d do the same up/ down if I was mounting them vertically.)

It won't affect the sound stage significantly because the tweeters are aimable. Take off the grille and aim the tweeter where you want it. When we used these as surrounds, we aimed the tweeters as far apart as possible for greatest sound separation.

I want to use the RCA outputs from zone 4 and zone 5 to send the line level signals to an amplifier that powers a single speaker (4100) in each of the bathrooms next to those rooms. If you are trying to combine a mono source to one pre output you would just input to say the left channel and the left pre output will be volume controlled via the touch pads. If you parallel the left and right input with the same signal you will have the same signal on both the left and righ pre outputs to go to any 2 channel amplifier you wish. Hope this helps.

I am an audio engineer and this question is confusing to me. There’s no such thing as a stereo combined mono signal.
You have two rooms ( zone 4 and zone 5) you want the line level (pre amp) output to go to a separate powered speaker in the bathrooms? Which amplifier are you asking about? The 6 zone or single amp powering the bathroom speakers?

Magnetic shielding is only an issue when used around a source of noisy electromagnetic interference. Traditionally this included CRT televisions. If you have a modern flat screen there is no need for the shielded version.

The little tabs do extend out beyond the speaker cutout in order to grab the drywall. You’re going to have problems installing in a 6.25” bay. There likely won’t be enough drywall to grab onto, and the speakers could pull out as a result. You could cut the stud. Or even like chisel into the stud a little bit to get that extra half inch you will need. Or get crazy and construction adhesive behind the bezel of the speaker and to just glue it to the face of the drywall. Or get a different speaker.

Failed Speaker
I purchased these in October of 2022, but didn't install them until the spring of 2023. They have been installed for less than a year and the tweeter has already failed on one of them.

Nice speakers easy install.
Easy install. Simply used the enclosed template placed on a level line drawn at the desired height to trace the required opening. Then cut the opening. Hooked up the wires and placed in opening. Locking tabs hold it in place When the 6 screws are rotated clockwise.
As far as sound goes, I'm not an audiophile, but they sound great to me. These replaced an older pair and they sound much better than those.

Better than expected
Paired with the matching center channel and a sub.
The weak point is the sub, followed by these speakers. They are mediocre compared to some high end wall speakers, and not close to the high-end cabinet speakers they replaced, but let me just say that these are cheap, two-way wall speakers, and in that respect, I didn't expect much. However, these speakers are really DECENT. They are clear, have no distortion that I can hear at uncomfortably loud volumes, and don't have any of that "tin-can" sound quality that your TV speakers (or cheap bluetooth speakers) have... and paired with the matching center channel speaker, which has more bass and sounds even better with the highs too, the aggregate sound quality is really clear and immersive. The sound really fills my small room with the 3-way speakers and a cheap sub.
I want to get a better sub for my setup, not for cheap they kind of cheap "boom-boom" that you just feel but a bass that fills in the sound with deep soundwaves that you actually hear instead of just shaking your walls. That's what this system needs, just a good sub, and it will sound like a high-end system.

Great speakers
These speakers replace a set from Boston Acoustics. These are so much better, there is simply no comparison. I would like to replace my center channel also, but Monoprice has not yet responded about what is the best match for my system.

Great for atmos!
I purchased these speaker for atmos configuration in my home theater. I went with this design versus round since there were already this style hole cut in my ceiling. They sound great for atmos speakers, can't speak for them as a main.
