the access series purports to be 99.9%. Oxygen free copper. It seems to be copper, but the description is hazy ie is it 99% oxygen free or 99% copper.

I'm not 100% sure, but I really don't think so. When working with it, it never crossed my mind that it was anything but all copper.

Can you run this cable in the ceiling for speakers?
A shopper
on Nov 13, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes, CL2 cable is rated for in-wall or in-ceiling use. "This is a cable jacket fire resistance rating defined in Article 725 of the National Electric Code. It stands for "Class 2 Remote-Control, Signaling, and Power-Limited Circuits" cable, which indicates that the cable is suitable for in-wall installation and use for certain low-voltage applications."

Should work in my opinion. Just remember, the longer the wire, the heavier gage you should use. Great product.

No. The wire is not shielded. I have not had an issue with interference, even though one of my systems has the wire running under the house for about 20 feet.

BEST ANSWER: The 4 conductor 18 gauge cable is just about 0.25" in diameter. The 2 conductor 16 gauge cable is sliightly larger at 0.26". These are measured with my caliper and of course, the jacket is a little flexible so the dimension probably will vary a little bit.
I don't have any 4C 16 gauge cable, so can't help you with that.

My mom 14/4 cable is roughly 5/16-3/8” in diameter which is slightly more narrow than the Audioquest equivalent I have also used which sits at a solid 3/8” for a 14/4 cable...all burial rated...which have in my yard for outdoor “rock” speakers.

The 18AWG cable has an outside diameter slightly less than 1/4" or 6mm. The 16AWG cable diameter is slightly larger than 1/4" at 7mm.

BEST ANSWER: Yep! That's exactly what I used it for. Usually just removed one of the wires. However I ended up finding a 3 core 18AWG that works better. If you can find a 3 core I would go with that instead.

No technical reason why it couldn’t work. A bit overkill for that job though. This wire is rated to go behind a wall, so you could find cheaper wire for your use case.

Can I crimp an RJ11 (telephone) connector on the 18 AWG or will the wire strands or jacket be too large to fit?
Craig
on Aug 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: That would depend on the type and brand of the RJ11 connector being used. It would be rather difficult to do, to be honest because of the strand count in the cable and because of the thickness of the jacket it may be almost impossible to terminate. It would not be recommended.

Hi If I use Red and white as series/combined, also Black with Green of this 18AWG speaker wire, will effective thickness be as same as Monoprice Access Series 12AWG wire? I am looking for effective 12AWG wire with Biamp use. Kindly suggest. Thanks.

Monoprice Speaker Wire, CL2 Rated, 4-Conductor, 18AWG, 100ft, White
Monoprice Speaker Wire, CL2 Rated, 2-Conductor, 12AWG, 50ft, White
BEST ANSWER: No. Two strands of 18AWG in parallel would be equivalent to 15AWG. Current carrying capacity depends on the wire cross section for a given length. Cross section doubles for every third step in AWG so to get the equivalent of 12 AWG you would need four 18AWG strands in parallel.

Works great for me
Hooked up my "surround left" and "rear surround left" speakers using this wire for my surround sound. Kind of a small gauge for surround sound... but I live in an apartment with neighbors, so I'm not going to be pumping much electricity through it. Works great. Used white RG6 cable nail clips to run it along the trim of my ceiling. Looks nice!

High quality copper wire
I needed some 4-conductor wire for my CNC router motors. This was much better and less expensive than what I could find locally. The shipping was fast too!!

Good overall satisfaction
When you get what you pay for, it's a bargain. I've been pleased with all my purchases of your cable. The website is confusing, however. I had to enter data three times before I could complete my order. It would get "stuck" on a page with no way to continue... frustrating!
PROS: This 'audio' cable serves well for my two-output power supplies. The 18 wire is heavy enough for minimal voltage loss with a four foot length under load but is very flexible and easy to work with. Your website offered the best price and beat Amazon! This cable takes solder well and the insulation doesn't shrink when heated.
CONS: I've ordered this cable several times and two differences were apparent: 1. the thickness of the outer jacket was different, and 2. the red and black wires were together on some spools and adjacent in others. This is an annoyance when installing connectors as the wires must be crossed over in a tight space. Both of these are minor and of little consequence. Neither would prevent me from buying this cable in the future.

Great cable at an unbeatable price. Monoprice is the only place I buy cables anymore because they make the exact same product for a fraction of the price. Copper is copper, people. You can't go wrong with Monoprice cables.

Using to make HiFi headphone cables
im using this to make headphone cables for my hifiman cans. the cables are fractions of a mm too fat to fit in my smc connections but can easily be shaved with a razor. next time ill get the next size down. no complaints for the cables intended purpose. would have given 10/10 if inner shielding/insulation was just a hair slimmer. average joe wont have this issue.
PROS: clean sound, quality copper, flexible enough for my needs.
CONS: none per intended purpose.
